Atari walks plank with Pirates

Pirates, pirates, pirates--those peg-legged, rum-swigging parrot keepers seem to be all the rage these days, even in the gaming industry. Atari is now jumping on the bandwagon, as today the company announced it has reached a deal to be a distribution partner with Playlogic for the PC game Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales.

The game is being developed by Akella, the Russian studio behind other eye-patch epics Sea Dogs, Age of Sail II, and Pirates of the Caribbean, which was published by Bethesda and based on the popular film.

In the game, players fulfill their seafaring fantasies by putting on the pantaloons of the sea bandit Blaze or his fiery sister, Beatrice. The role-playing game will task adventurers with managing a crew, navigating the open seas, and of course, getting mad booty. The game's multiplayer mode supports up to 16 players and features deathmatch, capture the fort, and defend the convoy gametypes.
