Assassin's Creed: Revelations delayed for PC - Report

News of a PC postponement for Ezio's latest excursion said to surface briefly on Ubisoft's Czech Facebook page; GameStop also lists later launch.

Pushing back the PC release for multiplatform games is becoming Ubisoft's standard operating procedure. The PC versions of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Tom Clancy's HAWX 2, Driver: San Francisco, and Call of Juarez: The Cartel all trailed their console counterparts, and the publisher might be adding one more to that list.

Revelations might come to pass two weeks later on PC.

According to a Eurogamer report, Ubisoft's official Czech Facebook page was updated with news that the PC edition of Assassin's Creed: Revelations would hit stores on December 2, a couple of weeks after the console versions' November 15 debut. The update was apparently pulled, as the link provided by Eurogamer to the Facebook update regarding the delay points instead to a notice that the content in question is unavailable.

Specialty retailer GameStop also apparently believes the game will be pushed back, as it lists the physical and digital release dates for the PC edition of Revelations as November 29. As of press time, a Ubisoft representative had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.

Revelations will follow the story of Ezio, who was first introduced in Assassin's Creed II. This time out, Ezio will seek out the haunts of original Assassin's Creed protagonist Altair, visiting such Middle East strongholds as the Ottoman Empire's Constantinople. There, Ezio will once again take up arms against the Templar order.

For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

I don't get why they would do this, it's stupid. It just doesn't work and you lose money. Sure they stated that piracy rates are down in one article, but the part I really like about that boast is that they neglect to mention their pc sales are down by 90% and that console sales DIDN'T increase. So sure you can say piracy is decreasing because of your DRM, but from the information at hand I think the assumption that nobody on PC gives a damn anymore about your games is the correct one. http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/10/07/opinion-ubisoft-piracy-and-the-death-of-reason/

Not unexpected and can't blame them for it. The most important thing is that it's still available on PC.

@NoodleFighter Very true words my friend, very true indeed. However unless there was some way to get massive media exposure for a boycott and then also some way to make all the "kid" gamers out there suddenly not want everything right this second I don't see how a boycott could really work. If you can think of a way we can do it though and show me we can drum up some more support for a boycott I'll gladly put some effort into it. I could easily build a "Boycott Console Games with Pushed Back PC Releases" website and from my past working in the industry (I know Brad Wardell) I could probably get some exposure and maybe a little backing. We'd need a BUNCH of people to agree with our idea though.

@RavenXavier It seems no matter even if the obvious go in their face like The Witcher 2 A DRM FREE game can sell over 1 million copies and had quite some demands in the hardware aspect, or Bad Company 2 selling more then the console versions then I think it has clearly more to do with how they treat the PC community. I just realized that most of the devs that say PC is full of pirating and etc, are usually the devs that try to sell us half-$@#$#@ console ports, games with ridiculous DRM, buggy turds, unoptimized or games that are just plain bad. I don't see how delaying the PC version is going to damage control pirates you think they won't wait or pirate it on consoles? They're just hurting themselves by making some of us who are impatient go to the console versions since some of us could been buying digital copies which would of been for $$ to them or retail copies that don't have as many royalty fees. How could the boycott not work since those games we'll be boycotting for to be released on the same day would most likely be console ports and console ports certainly aren't high end. Besides with AMD APUs showing up in more prebuilt PC's you all can get much more affordable systems with great performance to price ratio. When I was younger I could only have a console and a handheld I barely got a lot of games. Now that I've switched to PC gaming I've owned more games then I could play with.

@NoodleFighter : true, I can agree with that. Still, I think my original point stands. In the end this all about money and these dumb devs thinking they are loosing sales to pirates. Seriously you'd think they would realize by now that if someone is going to pirate a single player game they never planned on buying it to begin with. If those of us who Actually Buy our PC games don't speak with our wallets and buying power (which lets face it is the only real power we have as consumers) they'll never learn. If I actually thought it would work I would organize a boycott of every console version of a game that's made that is SUPPOSED to have a simultaneous release date on PC. Of course in real life that won't work because too many people would rather not wait and buy the console version on day one instead of wait for a month (or more) to the buy the PC version. Especially since there are still a lot of gamers out there who's PC's can't run high end games, and that's no fault of theirs by any means. I'm lucky and I worked hard so I could own my X-Box360, my Wii, and have a High End gaming PC. When I was a kid there was no way I could afford the high end rig I have now. My parents were poor and had to pay bills so I was lucky if I got a new video game system once every 5 or 6 years.

As a PC gamer and a honest one, I'm starting to feel hated by devs...(DRM's,console ports, internet key activations, delayed release dates) Valve your are a beacon of light in a industry of darkness..

oh noooooooo ,i didn't see that one coming....they will propably postpone the game again. ubisoft are real professionals when it comes to making the lives of pc gamers a living hell. i'm gonna get this game illegaly now

Every time they delay a game for no good reason another pirate gets his wings...lol. Seriously, do they really think we can't see what they're doing and why they're doing it? This is another game, just like Batman Arkham City, that I had pre-ordered for my PC. And now, just like my pre-order of Batman, I just saved money by canceling my pre-order. I'm a adult, I can wait to play a game, and now I'll be waiting for it to hit the bargain bin or go on sale on Steam before I'll buy it. If everyone did what I'm doing and spoke with their wallets then these companies would learn to give the PC gamers the Proper Respect they deserve and they'd see their PC profits go back up as a result. I urge everyone to speak with their wallets. Show them us PC gamers won't be continually pushed around so these douchebags can make higher profit margins.

Actually been thinking about this delay and you know what Ubisoft, Please make the delay longer (about 4 months should do it) and then when you release it, you can give us all the DLC's for free and you can add in some extra content for good measure and then charge us £30. Then I'll say thanks Ubisoft, wait a couple of weeks for the denial of service assaults on your DRM servers to finish and then buy it in time for the late spring lull in new releases

Does anyone know if they have announced the DRM on the PC version of this title? Considering Ubisoft's recent history, I would be hard-pressed to think that the DRM and the delay were not related.

@trancedanne yeah people do play it on PC, it's nice playing at 60FPS and full 1080p.

Pakundo
Pakundo

@trancedanne Ofcourse people play the Assassin's Creed series on PC. Imagine the "unthinkable": People like me don't own a console or never have in recent years, but DO own a PC good enough to play the AC games. So for us, it's the only platform we play games on.

downwithpeace

If this is because of PC DRM then Ubisoft's intelligence of the Consoles is severely lacking or they're trying to get people to move off of PC's completely.

Atleast will still get it on December 2 rather than Older AC titles that always released a year after :)

@Adenosine I agree, but i think delaying a game is a big problem because PIRATES can, they have done it before (cursed crusade is an example :D) , release a game or post it on a torrent site before the release date , if the game is finished they should understand that it will BE LIKE this every time....Ubisoft does one thing now , they are annoying for the pc community

WiredDreemz

It's a conspiracy I tell you! I would surmise that many PC gamers also have consoles, and if they are really looking forward to the game, they'll buy the first version that hits the shelf! Why sell a $49 game when you can sell a $59 dollar game! It's all in the profits I believe!

Frankenstrat247

Perhaps they need more time to cram in even more terrible drm.

Adenosine

Just to add, I think that just because a PC game gets delayed doesn't mean it's simply to fix bugs in it. It's more of the magic notion that they think by delaying the availability of this game, they would have lesser piracy problems. Unfortunately for them, delaying the game on PC doesn't mean it won't get pirated on the Xbox 360 or PS3. I really see no point in their delaying strategies. All games will be pirated because we have the technology to do so. What would be good though is if they actually delayed the PC version in order to iron out problems with it, but with this close date to launch and seeing how a few short weeks it will just take the PC version to be released, it really just can't be anything else other than an effort to avoid having their game pirated right on the first day, at least for the PC version. Game bugs, especially if we're talking about PC games, can't really be fixed and fully patched with just a few weeks since every gamer has a different computer. Fixing computer games is like patching up problems as they show up in specific situations. No "One Patch Fixes All". I don't know if these people signed any agreement in their contracts with Microsoft and Sony about giving way to their consoles at the expense of PC gamers.

Adenosine

I called this when I first learned about Batman being delayed for the PC. I really could see that companies are delaying PC games when they have console versions available as well and the pattern's too obvious now. I knew it was too good to be true that Assassin's Creed wouldn't get delayed, and today I was proven correct. Very sad:(

@pelvist that makes a lot of sense, never thought about that.

punkdsk8erdude

i don't understand the logic behind delaying the PC version by merely a week or two... What can Ubisoft accomplish with that extra one or two weeks to work on the game? And shouldn't a game be totally finished, bugs worked out, and copies being printed the weeks leading up to launch? I just don't get why Ubi needs those extra couple of weeks. If it was a couple of months i get it, but seriously..2 weeks? What it does is piss of PC gamers. I myself have it preordered on 360 so i'm good but i feel for the PC gamers...it's just an annoyance that doesn't seem necessary.

i dont have a problem with delays at all. More delayed, better the product. Besides, with BF3, MW3, Batman arkham city, SKYRIM, heroes 6, F1 2011, FIFA 12 who the hell has the time for this or Star wars Old Republic.

Starkiller2000
Starkiller2000

You know, it's times like this that I don't much care for being a PC gamer... Not like I have much of a choice; compared to consoles, PC generally is cheaper enough that it's all my broke-ass can afford. If I could speak to Ubisoft, though, I'd first beat the everliving snot out of a couple of them just to send a message to the others. Then, I'd tell them to just quit planning simultaneous PC and console releases, since they just get F'd up anyway. Just tell us from the start the PC will be later, and then you wouldn't so many pissed off fans.

pelvist
pelvist

@Reuwsaat Its not payback for piracy. Piracy is just as rampant on consoles + used sales and rentals. They do this in order to get people to buy the more expensive and inferior console version. People who own both a gaming PC and console and who want everything now will buy the console version because their friends are playing it before them. There are other multiplatform developers that do this. ( capcom and Rockstar for instance ) The console version costs more and makes them more money in the short term while the PC versions generally net more money over a longer period of time, they know that if its available on PC then PC gamers will get that version for the better graphics, higher frame rates, cheaper prices ect, but if they delay it for that platform then those gamers desperate to play it will get the game elsewhere.

You have to wonder what goes through the minds of some of these marketing execs when they make these decisions - lets delay the PC version, inflict some crappy DRM on it - and then act all shocked when there is a backlash. *insert favourite facepalm pic here*
