Assassin's Creed: Revelations beta opens Sept. 3

PlayStation Plus-, Uplay-only multiplayer trial period runs until September 11; nine characters, three maps, four modes, and eight abilities included.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations isn't due out on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC until November 15. However, not all gamers will need to wait that long to get their hands on the multiplayer component of the game.

Assassins come in all shapes, but apparently not all sizes.

Ubisoft today announced that a multiplayer beta for Assassin's Creed: Revelations will open on the PlayStation 3 for PlayStation Plus and Uplay members on September 3. The trial period will let gamers sample nine characters, three maps, four modes, and eight abilities from the upcoming title's multiplayer component. The beta will end on September 11.

More specifically, the nine characters offered in the beta are The Sentinel, The Vanguard, The Guardian, The Vizier, The Thespian, The Deacon, The Bombardier, The Trickster, and The Champion. According to Ubisoft, the characters sport similar behavior but have differing animations and customizable ability sets.

The maps included in the multiplayer beta for Assassin's Creed: Revelations are Knight's Hospital, Antioch, and Constantinople. Additionally, the game modes inside the trial are Wanted, Manhunt, Deathmatch, and Artifact Assault.

Revelations will follow the story of Ezio, who was first introduced in Assassin's Creed II. This time out, Ezio will seek out the haunts of original Assassin's Creed protagonist Altair, visiting such Middle East strongholds as the Ottoman Empire's Constantinople. There, Ezio will once again take up arms against the Templar order.

Damn...activated my account in AC2. Oh well, it's coming out tomorrow

It's for PS3. Period. If they meant that it was on PC they would have said PC. What they mean is that it's for PS3 owners that have Playstation Plus membership and if you don't have Playstation Plus then you can still get into the beta if you have a UPLAY account. So if you own a xbox 360, PC, or a PS3 without a Playstation Plus membership or UPLAY account you aren't getting in right now. But november is still a ways off so they might release it for PC and 360 later. Hope that clears up any confusion. To anyone who apposes what i said just re-read the sentence you'll see what I mean. "Playstation 3 for Playstation Plus and UPLAY members". oh and fyi UPLAY is free. To those of you that are saying that this is a ploy to get more people to subscribe to PS+. They are probably going to release this on 360 and PC later. November is still two months away and if you haven't noticed the beta is only 7 days giving them plenty of time to put it out for other platforms. If you read any reviews then you would see that the only reason they put it out on PS3 first is because of all the 3 platforms the PS3 had the most problems so they probably want to make sure that the same thing doesn't happen with revelations. Gamespot even mentioned PS3 having more issues then 360 at the end of their review of brotherhood. Betas are for testing not publicity so it makes since that the platform that had more problems would be the only one to get a beta or be first to get the beta. People should be glad they are getting the full game at all. It's just a beta that you might not get. If you don't get the beta it just means your platform didn't need testing. @aborted_fetus This from somebody that probably plays CoD religiously. Give me a break.

@aborted_fetus Brotherhood felt more like an expansion, but based on what we've seen so far, Revelations could be called AC3. They're completely changing the environment; they have 300 bomb customization; they have upgraded the multiplayer significantly; they're finishing up Ezio's story (maybe even Altair's); and they are revealing most of the secrets and current plot-holes and mysteries. What more could you ask for?

@jonnybutler11 before i respond let me say i am not a fan boy i like xbox 360 and ps3. betas are used to catch glitches and bugs before the game is released not to get publicity. and dont say that play station plus it a ripoff i have it and im glad i do it saves me alot of money.xbox has you pay 50 bucks a year (for gold membership) just like PlayStation. yes i think it would be better if it was on xbox as well but maybe this was just to make it a more "closed" beta

This is bull, isn't a beta supposed to be publicity to entice the most people as possible to buy the full game? If so, how come only psn+ users get it? Ubisoft would be getting more publicity if they made this open to everyone on ps3. Hey, how bout you be nice and throw in an xbox 360 beta as well? I'll tell you why, it was a greedy move by Sony to try to get more people to purchase psn+. Come on, ubisoft, how much did you get paid for this? Playstation plus users can go do something unpleasant with other playstation plus users, I'm not getting fooled by Sony. Psn+ = paying to get free games and add-ons... Am I the only one who gets how idiotic that sounds?

Lol, another 60$ Assassins Creed 2 expansion? Ubisoft, you are trash. Your DRM fails, your franchise milking fails, and your lack of creativity and utterly blatant anything-for-a-buck reconstituting of Splinter Cell has firmly attached the name "Ubisoft" to the word "Crap" like a conjoined twin.

seancoombes

@rocker6: I thought it meant you have to be a Playstation Plus AND a UPlay member. Since the sentence before it says it's available on the PS3 and doesn't mention PC at all

@mcla_3 Its a videogame, there are a lot of small inconsistencies like that in any game. @controlfreak25 Its on PC also,it say PS Plus and Uplay, and Uplay means PC.Only Xbox is being left out.

wtf? ps3 only?! Thats stupid, I LOVE AC and I would like to see the idea behind this games multiplayer and I would like to have seen if they made it better then brotherhood multiplayer. I feel that this is a mistake and that it should be on xbox and PC also.

alexLmx6

@isshiah - I agree, so much multiplayer in games that have no business being multiplayer. And of course, it means they'll add all sorts of multiplayer trophies, making a platinum out of my reach (not that I've ever gotten one, but still.)

i think if you go on your uplay profile http://uplay.uk.ubi.com/profile/ then im not sure where it is maybe at the bottom of your profile you can link up your psn and social network like facebook and stuff i think not 100% sure hope it helps or it might be in your account information, or u can link from your ps3 like when u play brotherhood or AC2 then go on to uplay and type in all your stuff and it should link up automaticlly hope this helps i know its a long message lol

Screw that. They totally messed me around last time. By the time they ended up sorting their sh*t out, and getting me my code the beta was already over. @PeterDuck, actually AC:Brotherhood was PS3 only beta as well

the_requiem
the_requiem

@jasonzilla11: No, you need just one of the 2. PSN+ will get it, UPLAY ones will get a code in mail from Ubi. At least that is the way I got it for ACB when I didn't have PSN+ As for linking ID, now would be good time to create a UPlay account if haven't already and link it to your PSN.

the_requiem
the_requiem

I'll be there first day. I loved the ACB Multiplayer and still consider it to be the most unique MP experience. I still don't think I'll pick up Revelations, at least not Day One like other ACs.

The fact that the "privilege" of testing server stress loads and game balance is a matter of fanboy pride or disappointment is a sign that we, as an industry/hobby, are quite silly.

A beta test that I am actually interested in taking part in and I am unable to unless I get a PS3? Damn it! I should just go get one since unless you have both, you always miss out nowadays...

Don't Know why xbox guys are complaining. They do timed releases all the time. Its good for Sony to be on the other side for a change.
