Assassin's Creed hits theaters later this year, and with its release comes a new look for the Animus, the memory machine that lets its user relive their ancestor's lives. According to star Michael Fassbender in an interview with Total Film magazine, the robot claw Animus could appear in future games (via GamesRadar).

When work on the movie started, the production team wanted to create a new look for the Animus. In the games, it changes its look from what looks like a surgery table to something resembling a dentist's chair, keeping the look of furniture. The film team wanted something more cinematic, leading to what's pictured below.

"For ages, we were like, 'What are we going to do with the Animus?'" Fassbender said. "At one point I thought of this idea where we'd be in a fluid tank, almost like a womb. But what the guys came up with is fantastic. Ubisoft are talking about putting it in their future games."

GameSpot attended a Ubisoft presentation, at which CEO Yves Guillemot said that if the movie does well, the company's future business in film could bring in a lot of money and allow it to reuse movie characters and content in its games.

"It can become, in many ways, something interesting for the company that pushes brands to become better known, create new characters that we can reuse in games," Guillemot said. "Content for the IP that is created for the movies can be used in games. It's not only the money that we make because it's a movie that's important, it's that we can explore new worlds and create new characters and backgrounds. All the special effects in the future can be reused, all that will make sure we can improve the quality of our games."

Assassin's Creed opens on December 21 and is not accompanied by a new Assassin's Creed video game, with only the remastered Ezio Trilogy releasing on PS4 and Xbox One. Ubisoft says the movie production team is happy there's no new game as it will benefit the film to be the only Assassin's Creed project with promotion this fall. Additionally, Ubisoft says the movie will be the one video game adaptation that breaks from the pack of mediocre-or-worse films.

If you're interested in hearing more about the Assassin's Creed movie, you can read our interview with Fassbender, in which he talked about how the movie will deal in the same moral greys as the video games.

"The idea that Templars are there for the advancement of the human race through science, and have done great things along the way, as well as horrifically bad things. Then the Assassins are killing people," Fassbender said. "It's a very adult world. That's something that drew me to it and for sure [director Justin Kurzel] as well."
