Assassin's Creed movie in 2013

Ubisoft's feature-legnth motion picture starring Michael Fassbender to debut next year.

The Assassin's Creed movie will hit theaters in 2013, according to Ubisoft chief sales and marketing officer Geoffroy Sardin. Speaking to Games Industry International, Sardin revealed the date when talking about the transmedia marketing plan surrounding the Assassin's Creed franchise.

This news follows Ubisoft's announcement last month that the publisher had "fast-tracked" the film through a partnership with New Regency. Ubisoft's deal with New Regency allows the game maker to maintain control of "key elements" of the film's creative direction.

The Assassin's Creed movie will star Michael Fassbender, who played major roles in Inglourious Basterds, Prometheus, and Shame. No additional cast members, director, or producers have been announced for the movie.

How they will explain the animus will be interesting. I have played all the games and still don't really get it my self...!

 @DarthLod

Inception which is arguably one of the best movies of at least the past decade took 5 months to film and another 8 months to release on the big screen. You can make an amazing film in a year or less, you just have to be willing to do it and most Hollywood producers and directors don't seem to be willing to do that.

I really hope they get this right, Assassin's Creed has a massive fan base (of which I am one) so if they get it wrong.......well.....in the words of Ezio Auditore "Requiescat in pace"

I really wish these guys would slow it down, take their time and make a movie which does justice to the games. As someone earlier mentioned, something like what happened to POP would be good. The actor Michael Frassbender looks like a good actor, although I've not seen any of his movies lol.

I guess..... nothing is true and everything is permitted

The proof that it wont be good is right there in the headline. "movie in 2013". That's NOT enough time to make a fantastic movie. It's an obvious rush job. Fail. That's whats wrong with hollywood these days. Everything is a formula for cash and not good quality cinema. Rush it out the door to cash in on the brand name and care nothing about making a true cinematic gem. This is sad news.

I never thought they would make a movie at all

I bet assassin creed is the most selling game, if every year they are able to make release and now the movie...

Well it doesn't look like there will be an update to this article, so I'll just add a quote appearing on some other news sites that actually conversed with Ubisoft on this matter. Statement from Ubisoft: "Geoffroy was talking only about further development on the film taking place next year. It’s too soon to discuss a possible release timeframe. We’ll have more details to share as work on the film progresses."

If it is in pre production phase then it will certainly be made. High hopes that it will be as good as Prince of Persia film.

better to split it into parts

because every game contain a shitload of cutscenes

Let's all be super pessimistic about this film so nobody will be disappointed! And if it turns out to be a great film, well then 2013 is going to be an awesome year. But let's hate it for the time being.

No no and no. make it cgi, game to movies is to much of a gamble. I liked Silent Hill and Prince of Persia was decent for a game to movie adaption other than that I dislike the rest. The cgi movies are alot better or maybe I expected less. Tekken, and Resident Evil cgi movies well way better than I anticipated.

This may be the first time the movie will probably be better than the game, not a hard stretch here.

Am I the only one who thinks the AC plot is terrible? Don't get me wrong, they're great games, but despite the story, not because of.

Fassbender's a good actor. He should be a good Desmond/Altair

Could be GREAT ... the storyline of AC is really good ... or its could be ABYSMAL

Hopefully they don't screw it up.

This sounds like a minor complaint, but part of what made the Prince of Persia movie bad was they had a white guy play a Middle Easterner hero....without even trying to put on an accent. It feels fake and cheesy (there are other reasons for that too). Assuming Fassbender will act as the coolest video game Arab, Al-Tair, the same problem can arise.

scraping101

I just pray they will do away with the Desmond/animus piece of the story, hopefully it's all in real time just with the story lines of altaiir, ezio, Connor etc. time travel In a serious movie is just too silly. Bet they won't do away with it, just wish they will

What can a movie do that a video game couldn't do? I don't see the point, since movies mostly just feel like videogame 1.0--entertainment without interaction.

you never know, but Ubisoft having some creative control over the film should count for something.

At least it should be better than Super Mario Bros and The House of the dead movies.

So I am guessing this is a movie adaptation of the first game. Hope its good.

As usual everyone is putting too much stake into the garbage that dribbles out of Gamesindustry International. Gamespot might might want to update this article with the latest clarifications from Mr Sardin.

psownsxbox4life
psownsxbox4life

I guess i'm in the minority of having high hopes for this movie. They got an incredible actor for the main role and are maintaining almost complete creative control over the production (unlike what in prince of persia where they had nearly zero creative control). I think they also are taking or haven taken a long time setting up a story and selecting a director who shares a similar vision for the direction of the film. Think it is at least worth the wait for more details to release before I start criticizing.

@scraping101 you've never read the books, have you? They don't have Desmond and hurt badly for it story-wise.
