According to Variety, Michael K. Williams, who is best known for his leading roles on The Wire and Boardwalk Empire, has joined New Regency's Assassin's Creed movie and will play a major role.

Interestingly, the report also reveals that New Regency and Ubisoft are planning to make at least one additional Assassin's Creed movie. Sources told the site that Williams' character "has a major stake in the franchise" and that, for a sequel, he will have a co-starring role alongside lead actor Michael Fassbender.

Neither New Regency nor Ubisoft have confirmed Williams' involvement with the Assassin's Creed movie project, but Williams basically validated the news on Twitter through a series of retweets.

The Assassin's Creed movie starts shooting in September and is expected to hit theaters in December 2016. It also stars Oscar-winning actress Marion Cotillard, and will be directed by Macbeth's Justin Kurzel.

It is one of more than a dozen video game movie projects currently in development. Check out GameSpot's new image gallery to learn about the others.
