Assassin's Creed IV a launch title for Xbox One and PS4

Ubisoft confirms upcoming action game will be available on day-one for next-gen consoles; PC version won't be available at launch.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag will be a launch title for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, Ubisoft game director Ashraf Ismail told ElderGeek in a new video interview.

"We are launch titles for those platforms," he said.

The Xbox One launches this November, while Sony has yet to provide a release window for the PS4 beyond sometime this holiday season.

The Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii U versions of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag launch in North America on October 29.

Ismail also revealed that the the PC version of the game will launch "a few weeks after" the current-generation console iterations.

"We're working hard on the PC version," Ismail said. "It's one of the main platforms we work on in the office. For our PC fans, don't worry. The game on PC looks phenomenal."

Every entry in the core Assassin's Creed has come to PC, though in each case, the PC version launched after the console iterations.

I must say I am impressed. Ubisoft does manage to come out with a technically good new game every year. I'm playing AC3 on PS3 right now and that game is stunning for running in the old HW.

AC3 sucked ass on PC anyway. Optimization is still crap. The overall game was bad anyway. I will not get AC4 until it is $15 or less. It will not take that long. Watch Dogs comes out around the same time anyway.

...and still can't pick to play as female lead.  sexist much, ubisoft?

Excellent! I had no interest in this game when it was announced for 360 and PS3. I just don't want anymore games on these old consoles. It will be interesting to see how much they can optimize the game for next gen.

Don't rush it, fellas. We don't want OUR copies freezing during cut-scenes :P

Developed on a PC yet not available at launch.  Nice...

I don't call a current-gen game ported to next-gen consoles a launch title.

AC3 is getting the most random hate ever. Most people probably hate it just because it became an annual franchise and because brotherhood and revelations were bad. No one even gave AC3 a chance. It brought so many new things, like a great new character, but people didnt like him because he is too real and didnt walk around talking cool badass stuff the whole time like every other video game character out there. It also brought a fresh new setting and a pretty good story( yes the modern day story wasnt really that good, but Connors story was pretty good). It also introduced a lot of new gameplay elements. New climbing elements, new (and better) combat system which is finally fluid and naval combat to name the biggest changes. Sure the game has its share of bugs, but come on its not that bad either.

I dont care about ac4 releasing  1 month after consoles, im going to pirate it anyways, i dont usually pirate games, but after the disaster ac3 was, ubisoft is in debt with me. so im going to take what i already paid for.

Glad to be hearing they are working hard on pc I spent so much time trying to deal with the lag in AC III, now all is left is to see if they repeated previous mistakes......

Why the hate?

Now there's a launch title worth getting!  Good thing I still got a credit account at Best Buy, because there's no affording this otherwise.

And yet they wonder why PC gamers hate them so...

Another franchise gone down the pan due to annual installments.

Too bad it takes one game to really deter ones high interest in its sequel, but because I thought Assassin's Creed 3 was mediocre in far too many areas, this has me cautiously curious about it. I do want it to be good, but goodness I just didn't like the majority of three.

I thought there was some really great stuff in the first one, but that was an overall kind of dull experience and the main story didn't have anything going for it until the very end, where the main AC story lies. If you do go back to it though after you play through the Ezio trilogy, you may notice more than you had before which makes it slightly better.

I mostly loved the Ezio trilogy, though not initially, it was only the end of two that had me interested, and then once I went back through it I really loved it, and then I thought Brotherhood was superb, and Revelations was really great.

Ugh, I hate how developers always do this upon new hardware generations.  Come out with all the games on the new console first, then many months later release it on PC, or in the case of most EA sports game, don't even bother releasing on PC... :(

Ah well,  it ain't gonna get me to buy a new console just for a couple games, but it's still annoying having to wait extra long for good games.

@lugpoints Bear in mind, it's not just a case of changing the 3D model to look female in order to have a female lead. All the voiceovers would cost a packet, and much of the written dialog would have to be changed to reflect the female character. And bear in mind, the game is released in several different languages, so they would have to get a female voiceover artist for most of the languages they release in the game in.

@atopp399 If it's like what they said about AC3, (from what I remember) then, they're basically hurrying the console versions out the door while taking the time to polish it for PC. Like, "it's okay to release it to consoles with a lot of bugs, but we should fix those before it gets on PC"

@Acillatem1993 I guarantee the hate you read from people is from the ones who've actually played the game. It's shit! cut scenes galor. No one gave it chance? what are you smoking? I played the garbage for 60 hours just to see how it ends!

SuperNecro

Brotherhood was wonderful. I never played Revelations, but I didn't hear much about it after its launch. As for AC3, Connor was boring. His father was actually interesting yet we lose control of him very early and are left with the angsty Connor for the rest of the game.

@Random_Virus Don't you know? Its cool to be a brat on Gamespot!

I'm definitely getting this game. Haven't picked one up since AC2... which I never finished because it got so repetative.

But this! This looks insane. and beutiful to boot. Can't wait to take to the high seas...... GARRRR!

couldnt resist. :D

@19James89 Not my opinion.  I think a one year production plan is great.  Once  a game's engine is in place, one year seems like a reasonable amount of time to put things in order.

@piyush18 Well, at least it's supposed to run in 60 frames per second. From what I've heard of people that saw it, it 'looked really nice'. From what I saw, it just looks like a good looking current-gen title, which makes sense due to it being on current consoles as well. It's probably best to play it on next-gen though if you're going to play it.

@tymefloc  hmm,  well I won't be updating my PS3 when I play Last of Us later on!

evil_m3nace

@SuperNecro Believe it or not, I clocked up to 20 hours just playing as his father. I immediately lost interest in Connor after playing as him for about 15 minutes, but I sojourned on for about 4 more hours then I just quit the game, haven't been back to it since.

@Random_Virus If it's what you enjoy playing RV then props to you. I am bored of Assassin's Creed and won't purchase another one. I thoroughly enjoyed both Assassin's Creed 2 and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and I found Revelations and Assassin's Creed 3 to be tedious, so that's me done with the franchise.

19James89

@stevenspall I don't blame you, I am being a lot more sensible with my money when choosing PS4 games as I wasted a hell of a lot of money on games I played once left to collect dust on my shelf, so I am on the look out for new experiences i.e. Knack, Witcher 3, Elder Scrolls online for instance rather than plugging with the same old re-hashed games like Assassin's Creed, Battlefield and Call of Duty, franchises for me which have lost their spark and become stale.

@19James89 @Random_Virus I plan on purchasing this one but I will hold my judgements till reviews and more previews etc, since AC3 till leave a bad taste in my mouth ^^

@piyush18 I'm pretty sure next-gen will be able to do more than just that, like better textures, less bugs and glitches. I'm not saying it'll be up to the expectations, only that it'll most likely be better on next-gen.
