Assassin's Creed charity marathon underway

Academic honors society at Antelope Valley College hosting marathon to benefit Child's Play charity; 59 hours in and $1,025 raised thus far.

A group of students at Antelope Valley College in Lancaster, California are hosting an Assassin's Creed marathon to raise money for the Child's Play charity, which benefits sick children in hospitals. This is the second year the group has hosted the fundraiser, with last year's event bringing in $1,400.

The Alpha Iota academic honors society and community service group is currently 59 hours in to the marathon and has raised $1,025. The marathon is being streamed live at this moment via Twitch.

The "Assassins4Kids" group is also auctioning off numerous Assassin's Creed-themed merchandise, including paintings, custom shoes, and hoodies. For more on the event, check out the event's website.

I'm not against it or anything, I've even donated a couple of bucks, but seriously: Assassin's4Kids? Could have chosen a better game.

Oh and: "Child's play" foundation? ( u know, like the movie )

To those who may concern,

We appreciate your concerns about our name of “Assassins 4 Kids” and questioning the coincidence of our Assassin’s Creed Video Game Charity and the Newtown, Connecticut tragedy.

We are deeply sadden by the tragic event that occurred and we truly send our condolences to all who affected by this tragedy, especially the families who have lost their love ones. Please understand that we did not intend to have any offense or relation to what happen. We have been known last year as “Assassins 4 Kids” from our twitter account to have an Assassin’s Creed Video Game related name that would interest the vast fan base that is from Ubisoft’s prized game series, called Assassin’s Creed.

Our objective for this charity is to continue hosting a charity event that all donations will fund games, books, toys, etc. to distract kids from the negative experiences of staying in the hospital. All donations go through our non-profitable charity organization, called Child’s Play. Child’s Play Charity funds all children’s hospitals around the world with all game related donations. Last year, Child’s Play collected over 3 million dollars for the cause. We as Assassins 4 Kids have contributed to that donation by collecting $1,400. Currently, we have done very well and collected over $1,600 and it is still building up.

Thank you for reading our concerns and we will continue to share our sympathies to those affected by the Newtown, Connecticut tragedy.

Sincerely,

Assassins 4 Kids

Impossible, charity and that game have no common grounds, they are diametric opposites!

I think Sponsers is spelled Sponsors... I live near Lancaster and this is just embarrassing...

They should have played PS All Stars It would have said AllStars4Kids. Instead of this inconvenient name chosen after the assassination of kids at the elementary school...

This is a noble, fun idea; hats off to them. I do think it's awesome of them to take the time and dedication to do this, however, the choice of game is...well, it doesn't quite fit like a glove, so to speak. Awesome game, just, not the greatest fit with the "theme" of the intent.

It's nice they are doing something for the community, and making it fun for them at the same time. :P

You are all in fact trolls. Try going and seeing what its about. These fine people are taking THEIR Christmas break and spending 5 whole days playing this game and putting themselves and their crazy awesomeness on a live stream for everyone to see. That takes alot of balls to step  up and do that. Their digital footprint for the world to see.

So in reference to you trolls whom immediately want to be negative. Show some support. The world is already messed up enough without your constant hide in your parents basement negativity.

As for this. I have personally donated 25 dollars to the cause and it is an amazing cause, this money goes right to childrens hospitals. To purchase gifts for children during the holidays. Especially those whom are much less fortunate than you.

The fact these people care is obvious, but they might have thought out their fundraiser a bit more.

You're giving off rated M+ games about murder, slaughter and conspiracies to sick children?

And then you wonder why politicians makes a mockery of us?

Give them something like LBP, Ratchet & Clank, or Scribblenauts.

The name Assassins4Kids doesn't really come off right to me.

@Python308 I'm not against their enthusiasm or anything but only the game they choose to pick - of all the games to front line a charity drive with they have to pick Assassin's Creed?!

This is face palm material when you look at it from a non-gamer perspective.

@TohouAsura I don't think they are giving the games to the children, but rather forcing themselves to play it for cash donations that will be donated to charity.

But yeah, I agree - of all the games to play a marathon with to benefit children and they picked Assassin's Creed? Play a Mario "everything" marathon or something goodness.

At least we can be thankful they didn't abbreviate Assassins at all though with the game - Ass4Kids just doesn't have the same ring to it - about the same morality though.
