Sequence 1: Peace at Last
You'll start up right at the ending of Assassin's Creed 2. During this mini tutorial, you'll be lead and instructed by Mario. Turn on your Eagle Vision and you'll be shown the path to climb up the shaft. Once arriving on the top, follow Mario and you'll soon be swarmed by members of the church. They mean you no true harm, so simply pushing them out of the way will be enough to let you exit the chapel.
Outside won't be as clean and you'll need to kill several guards. Mario will help you with some distractions, but it's mainly up to you to finish of the soldiers. Normal attacks are good enough, but consider using more tactics, such as counter attacks or grabbing the enemy. One of the best ways to deal with the foes is to kick them in the shins, lowering their defenses. Further, you can out right kill them simply by kicking them an absurd amount of times. No point in being stealthy if you have even the toughest enemy trapped in a stun lock.
After the initial enemies are dealt with, keep following Mario over the roof and dispatch any more enemies that come your way. You'll soon reach the top of a tower and over look the vast scope of Rome.
R & R
You'll return to Monteriggioni--the base of operations from the previous Assassin's Creed--and several of the town's folk will need assistance with a few tasks. This, like most of the first Sequence is a basic tutorial of how to perform average events.
You can do these in any order, but the woman in the town square will be the closest. Talk to her and then carry her box for her. Follow her to just outside your manor to complete the Memory.
The next Memory you can complete involves catching a run away horse. Head outside the city's gates and talk to the man outside.
It's another simple task of running up to he horse and using your actions to ride it. Just wait for it to stand still before dashing at it. After mounting the horse, return to the NPC to complete the memory.
Climb the walls of the city and you'll find a few guards manning a cannon. One of their comrades has decided to wonder off and take a nap. Follow the markers on your map and wake this dozing soldier.
Return to the cannon and you'll be given the task of operating it and having some target practice. Shoot and destroy five of the dummies to complete the Memory.
After all of these Memories, return to the manor for a few cutscenes. you'll awake the next morning under attack by the Borgia army. Rush outside and on to a horse, ride it until it is crushed by the falling debris.
Next, head up the city wall from the previous Memory. It will quickly crumble, requiring you to restart your accent to the top.
Man the cannon from before and use it to destroy the enemy Borgia armaments. There are too many soldiers and siege weapons to clear the whole field, however you only need to destroy enough to allow time for the citizens to escape. Afterwards, abandon the cannon and head across the city walls and up the tower. You can get in one free kill, so use it to finish off one of the stronger soldiers. Most of the enemies can be killed with simple counters or grabs. However, several heavy armored units will also appear. For these heavy brutes you'll need to resort to kicking them in the shins until they die.
Regroup with the friendly soldiers and battle your way to the manor. Your allies can fight just as well as you. If you want, disengage from your foes and let the Monteriggioni guards fight for you while you sprint away.
You'll encounter Claudia who is in need of rescuing. Kill the Borgia soldier trying to stab her and escort your sister to the back of the manor. There are other enemy soldiers along the way, but your allies will keep them busy. Enter inside and you'll meet up with some thieves and scouts, ending the Sequence.
Present Day: Monteriggioni
You'll be in control of Desmond for this portion of the game. Unlike Ezio, Desmond has no life bar so he takes no damage. There is also no combat element, despite him being equipped with a hidden blade.
Right from the start you'll spot a ghost of Ezio fleeing the manor. Follow it to the right and leap off the plank to the hay pile below. After a quick scene of you and Lucy checking a dark cave, you'll find that you're underground. Press the switch ahead to let Lucy pass through the gate. You'll need to find your own way through, so climb the ledge to the left and proceed forward.
Dive down to the water below and swim to the highlighted switch, this will lower one bridge, while raising a second and allow Lucy to move forward. Return to the surface and shimmy across the planks above the new accessible platform. Drop down and there will be a second switch, allowing you and Lucy to continue forward.
In the next area there will be a gap that is too great for you to cross on your own. Stand on the platform ahead and give Lucy a boost across. She will lower a device that you can use to leap across.
Ascend the wall to the left and you'll come to another switch behind a gate. You however crawl over the wood frames to the right and then leap into the small room behind the gate. Flip the switch and continue across the rocks on the bottom. After a short scene of discovering a huge room and setting up the Animus, use Eagle Vision and examine the triangle drawing on the wall. While in vision mode, you'll see hidden numbers behind the drawing.
You'll discover that Monteriggioni doesn't have working power. Exit the manor and talk to Shaun. You'll need to interact with several fuse boxes to start up the power. You can use Eagle Vision to help spot the boxes better. After all of them are started up, meet with the rest of the Assassins to start up the Animus.
Sequence 2: The Wilderness of Tigers
Before starting the next Sequence, Rebecca will advise trying out some training missions. These aren't mandatory, but they can help you better understand the combat and stealth mechanics of the game. You can also use the Animus' DNA system to replay completed Memories from Ezio's past.
As good as New…
You'll be injured during your escape from Monteriggioni and return to Rome. Use your map to seek out a doctor and heal yourself for $50. If you want to acquire more money, consider stealing from the Roman citizens.
After restoring your health, follow your map marker and climb the building. On the roof you'll get a clear viewpoint to your next goal. Dive down to the hay below and look for your next mark.
Follow the guards and keep your distance. If you get too far a timer will start, showing you that you're about to lose them. Likewise, you can't get too close or they will attack, failing the Memory. They'll move to the gallows, where they will attack a grieving citizen. Kill the Borgia guards by kicking them in the shins or grabbing them to finish the Memory.
After rescuing the citizen, he'll ask you to kill the executioner that killed his wife. Follow the marker on your map and you'll find the Borgia executioner.
Sneak on top of the roof and get the executioner into range. When no one notices you, you can get a free instant-kill via the assassinate prompt. Use it and then flee the scene. There is no need to kill anyone else, so don't bother with necessary combat.
New Man in Town
Meet with Machiavelli and he will ask you to take care of a few people for him.
Your gear in shambles though. Head to an armory and purchase some new spaulders. If the shop is closed off, spend some of your money to restore it. Likewise, if you are strapped for cash, steal it from the citizens. Move to the restricted area and discover your target, a Borgia captain.
Move to the highest point and get in a few free kills with your assassination move. This will allow you to easily kill off the captain while his men are dispatched. With the captain dead, you can also take the time to destroy the Borgia tower and remove the area's restriction. Return to Machiavelli to end the Memory.
Easy Come, Easy Go
Grab a horse and follow Machiavelli. You'll need to rescues a citizen who is being harassed by the Borgia. Both your allies are capable fighters, however they will still need your support, especially against any mounted combatant. If the Borgia steal a horse, be quick about dismounting them and making the playing field more even.
Crepi Il Lupo
You'll discover a Borgia Messenger fleeing the scene, chase after him and use a tackle to steal his information. Try to resort from violent means, as killing the messenger could alarm the rest of the Borgia guards.
Meet up with Machiavelli again, or so you may expect. you'll instead be ambushed by the Followers of Romulus. Use your hidden blade and shin kicks to fend them off. If you need, stop and grab a healing kit and restore any lost life. Once all of the Followers are dead, move to the sewers below and discover their hidden base.
The Halls of Nero
You'll be traipsing around the underground of Rome. Move up the pillars to the left or right and flip the four switches. You can shimmy and leap across to all four instead of leaping across the center. Once all four switches are one, the floor will break. Leap down to the lower level.
Move behind the gates and climb on top of the pillars. Leap to the walls and shimmy across the wall and move to the plant over the gate. Next jump and swing across the light, landing behind the next gate ahead.
After leaping across a few more gates you'll come to a room filled with fire. Climb over the statue in the center and move across the wall on the left. Once again, leap to the next statue to clear the flames. Shimmy and climb the next wall on the left and you'll discover a new room. Climb across the next set of walls and some will shatter, leaving a new means of cutting across the maze.
Jump across the beams and you'll soon make it to the main hall. Run up to the stone throne in the distance and jump to the left side. You'll need to circle all the way across the room and back to the right end. Every so often some of the pillars will break, adding shortcuts in case you fail some jumps. Also stop to grab the Borgia flag that is stationed on the right side of the room.
When ready, enter the Followers' stash and steal all of their money. In the center of the room is an also a scroll. Snatch it up and exit through the hatch at the top to finish up the Memory.
Sequence 3: The Fighter, the Lover and the Thief
The next few tasks can be done in any order, however some are closer in distance, while others are far off.
You'll need to rescue a courtesan that is being held for ransom. Gather up $2500 by either stealing or withdrawing from the Roman banks.
Either way, head to the docks and deliver the money. The area is a restricted Borgia zone, so be careful to not alert the guards. After a brief scene, kill the pirates. Your hidden blade will surface, but also consider stealing their weapons and using them against the enemy.
Afterwards, return to Claudia and inform her that the negotiations went south. Afterwards, talk to the architect and restore the area.
You'll meet up with La Volpe and will need to convince him to rejoin with the Assassins.
Follow him and move to the marker on the map. You'll view some thieves who will get in trouble with the Borgia. Rescue the young man by killing all of the Borgia in the area. All of them are using ranged weapons, so consider using some of your own. Also, their slow loading crossbows and guns make them open to quick melee assaults.
Escort the wounded man to safety, each time stopping to kill or elude the guards. If your infamy is still too high, find a politician and kill them off. Afterwards, go to your map marker to meet with La Volpe again and restore the area.
Between a Rock and a Hard Place
Meet with Bartolommeo and you'll find that he and his men are being harassed by the Borgia troops.
Hunt down the Borgia captain, leaving your allies to deal with the fodder. Sneak up to the captain and kill him with a quick assassination. Free the region of Borgia control by moving to the Borgia tower and destroying it.
Return to Bart and watch a few scenes. After talking to Machiavelli again, meet with another architect to finish the Sequence.
Sequence 4: Den of Thieves
You'll be infiltrating the Borgia castle. Swim across the small moat and climb over the walls. There will be plenty of markers and waypoints on your map to quickly figure out where to go next.
Take out the guards by hiding in the hay or using stealth. Next, shimmy across more walls and move across the courtyard. Next, climb up the center building and leap across the planks sticking out. In some places you'll need to drop down and quickly grasp onto the next ledge, or you'll simply fall to your death.
Head to the roof and kill any remaining guards. Move into the building and find Caterina locked in a cell. You'll need to steal a key from Lucrezia to free Caterina
Move to the court yard and subdue Lucrezia. Every so often she will escape your grasp and call in a gang of guards. Stop to kill these enemies and catch up to your prisoner again. Drag her all the way to Caterina's cell to start the next Memory.
The Burdens We Carry
You'll be carrying Caterina out of the castle and will be vulnerable while holding her. If you need to stop and drop your escort while you kill off the enemy. Return to the bottom levels and toss Caterina down to the hay and follow along to the basement.
Move to the courtyard and open the gate by turning the two large wheels on either side of the gate. Grab a horse and help Caterina to safety.
Guardian of Forli
You'll need to stick behind and kill off the guards on the bridge while Caterina makes her escape. Engage in combat until the timer runs out, at which point your ally will have made it away from the Borgia.
Now it's your turn to get the hell out of there. Kill any nearby guards and then dash away. Use hiding points such as hay piles and roofs to stay out of the Borgia's site.
Man of the People
You can now start building the Brotherhood. Randomly on the map you'll see citizens being harassed by the Borgia. By moving to these locations and saving the towns people, you can convince them to join the Assassins.
Recruit at least two assassins to complete the Memory. However with more Borgia Towers destroyed, you can gain more recruits. You may want to get at least four recruits before moving on.
Find a coup and train up your new allies. You will want to assign them to a few missions and allow them to level to at least level 4. Since your assassins can die really quickly, give them at least one armor upgrade before taking them out to the field. a Good weapon upgrade will also allow them to take out targets faster.
You'll need to kill off a corrupt doctor. The courtesans around the area will show you his location by pointing in the right direction.
You can use the crowds around to help conceal yourself and then move in for the quick kill.
Meet with the boy on the docks to learn about a slavery scheme being conducted on the outskirts of town. Follow the noble at a distance to find his base. Like with all tailing mission, never get too close or you'll be discovered.
At the slavery outpost, call in your newly recruited assassins. If they are high enough level they can easily kill off most of the Borgia. Use this confusion to move up to the noble and kill him off.
An Unexpected Visitor
Follow the next marker into the alley way and you'll meet with Leonardo. He has a new item for you, the double hidden blade. You'll need to give him a bit of money for this new gadget, but it shouldn't be too much for your coffers.
Someone has taken Leonardo's machine gun and blue print and it's up to you to gather info. Tail the Borgia squad that knows the location. Use your assassins to kill off the enemies and move to the net marker.
Climb to the building just outside the Borgia base and leap across the beam. Move through the hay piles and across roofs. If you can, kill some of the guards and drag their bodies into the hay piles. Move all the way across to the eastern end wall and move across the top of it. Move below and destroy the machine gun blue prints.
Next, move back to the previous building and trigger the explosives near the gun. Move to safety to destroy one of the guns. However, a second gun mounted on a cart will speed away. Jump on a horse and chase it down. Move swiftly by pulling on the reigns, dodging falling wood and avoiding gun fire. Soon you'll make it to the cart itself and will take aim with the machinegun. Kill any Borgia soldier that comes after you. Since this is the Renaissance, an automatic fire machinegun doesn't really shot that fast. However, it's very accurate and can kill a horseman with only a single shot.
Sequence 5: The Banker
You'll need to help out a banker and his brother during this Sequence.
While escorting the banker, you can tell him to stop and stay out of danger. This will be a big help as he is very weak and can easily be killed off if too close to the fray. Remember, you can also call in your assassin recruits to quickly clear the area.
Escape From Debt
Gather up $3000 by stealing, selling items or gathering money from the bank. Return to the banker and you'll learn of a Borgia shipment.
Stay on the roofs and keep a close eye on the banker and the Borgia escorting him. Be sure to keep a distance and avoid being discovered. Any alerts will instantly fail the mission.
Follow the Money
Climb up the building that the banker and the goon have entered. You'll need to ascend all the way to the roof and drop down below.
Shimmy across the wall and get far enough down until the assassinate prompt is available. Kill the Borgia captain with one quick swoop and steal his uniform.
When in Rome…
With your disguise you'll need to lead the troop to their location. Only problem is you don't know where to go. Listen to what the other soldiers say to learn where to go.
When the Borgia say you are going the right way, continue down the same path, when they make any remarks about being confused, double back right away. If they start to suspect anything, they will attack and fail the Memory.
In and Out
Once reaching your goal, you'll soon switch out of the enemy uniform. The place is crawling with enemy Borgia, so you'll need to hire some help to make it through.
Hire groups of courtesans and have them distract any guards. If you are discovered, you'll fail on the spot. The ladies will keep the Borgia guards busy and allow you to slip by.
Hide in the hay stacks and kill off guards that come too close. Instead of using your main weapons, switch to poison and use it to stealthily deal with the guards. Next, rush Juan and kill him off before more guards spot you.
Sequence 6: The Baron of Valois
Meet with Bart and you'll find that the French allies of the Borgia are attacking.
Call in your assassin recruits to help support Bart and his men while you close the gates. Move up to the various cranks and wheels and seal the fortress gates.
Follow Bart to the French camp and kill off any enemies around. You'll want to use stealth to keep from being seen by any of the enemies around.
Regroup with your allies and you'll steal a few French army uniforms to make your way into the enemy camp.
Closely follow along with your disguised allies and hide in the crowd to easily kill of the patrolling guards. You'll need to be both sneaky and quick to clear the watch. Move behind buildings and stalk lone guards to allow Bart and his men to advance.
You'll make it to the main French camp where you may face off against the remainder of the army. Call in your assassin allies to make the kills while you go after the French noble. Find the various cranks and gears to open gates to the next area.
Here, you will absolute stealth to save Bart's wife. Any alarm or kill against the French will result in a failure. Move to the roofs on the right side and quickly dash across before any guards can see you. Leap down and assassinate the noble in one clean strike, ending the Sequence.
Sequence 7: The Key of the Castello
Patching the Leak
You'll be teaming up with La Volpe and his gang of thieves yet again. Follow La Volpe on horseback and stop to protect the various contacts along the road. If you like, deploy your assassins to help clean up the area and reduce risk.
There are at least three patrols that you'll need to rescue, but none of them are really that tough.
Calling All Stand-Ins
Tail the Borgia contact to learn where the play is being held. You will once again need to keep your distance to avoid being seen. You can even use well placed courtesans to distract the enemies and make it into restricted areas.
Heavily rely on your assassin recruits. They can score free kills without anyone seeing, or more caring that the guards are being murdered. Keep on the noble's tail and grab a horse to keep up.
Exit Stage Right
Eventually you'll be lead back to the Colosseum. Scale the walls so that none of the Borgia catch sight of you.
Once at the top level, you'll only have a few minutes to make it to the play below. Kill off the rifle packing guards and ignore the rest. Before to not be seen, or worse yet fall from the Colosseum windows. Pause if need be, as being seen is far the worst outcome.
Meet up with the assassin's below and change into costume. Move to the next marker and take part in the play. Use Eagle Vision to learn your staging, each time moving to a new patch of hay as the play moves forward.
After the performance, escort the actor to a doctor outside so he can heal up. You'll spot a thief from the start of the game and will need to give chase. If there is a horse nearby grab it, other wise move by food. Keep to the left to avoid Borgia guards and call in your assassins to deal with any threats. Catch up to the thief and tackle him.
After another scene, you'll need to rush yet again. Take any shortcuts you can find, including swimming across water and diving from high areas. Meet with La Volpe and save Machiavelli to end the Memory.
Sequence 8: The Borgia
You'll be back at the Borgia strong hold to gain the final secrets of the Apple of Eden. It's more about stealth and climbing, but be sure to kill off guards that could easily blow your cover. Swing across the planks ahead and scale over the walls until entering the interior.
On the inside you'll need to climb up the planks and circle around the entire narrow hall way. Using Eagle Vision can be a great means for finding where to go next. Finally, move up the shaft above to reach the main floor. Exit to the roof, kill the guards and watch a scene as the Borgia clash at each other's throats.
An Apple a Day
Head to the roof of the castle and scale more walls, killing guards all along the way. Meet with Lucrezia to learn what happened. Proceed to the basement and chase after Cesare.
Move to the wall on the right and jump to the hanging platforms. Leap across the beams on the center of the room and then move up the shaft on the left.
You'll be back on the roofs and will have a bird's eye view of Cesare trying to escape. Keep on his tail and dive into the water below. Rush to the Vatican and dodge any Borgia pursuers. Hide in places or kill the guards that get to close. Even if you make it to the target you'll need to kill off any enemy before time expires.
The Apple of Eden
With the coast clear, move to the statue in the center of the court yard to discover the Apple of Eden. From now on you will not be able to change weapons and will have to charge the Apple to perform area of effect damage. Not only can this stun enemies, but it may cause them to attack one another. However, keep in mind that you will take damage while using the Apple. Stop and heal before making too many quick attacks.
Dozens of Borgia soldiers will swarm you, but the apple is enough to force them out of control and make them hack each other to bits. When all of the initial guards re dead, flee from Borgia territory (Marked yellow on your map) and return to your hideout.
With the apple in hand, you now have the means to destroy the Borgia for good. Head to the town square and destroy the various captains around, all clearly marked on your map as main targets.
Like before, the apple drains your life, so be careful when using it too quickly. Otherwise, cleaning up the soldiers is no hard task.
Your next task is to finish up the remaining guards around the Coliseum.
Take down the enemies outside and force them to kill each other from the Apple's power. Wait for the noble below and follow him to the rest of the Borgia.
In the main hall, call in your assassins and wreak havoc as you spam the Apple's power. Take out the main captains to send the rest of the troops fleeing, ending the Memory for good.
All Roads Lead to…
For the last part of the Sequence you'll be confronting Cesare directly. You'll have the support of Bart, La Volpe, Claudia, and Machiavelli. To make it even more chaotic, call in all six of your available assassins to keep the Borgia at bay
Keep using the Apple, each time waiting to recharge your life. Keep fighting until the timer runs out. Move to the city's gate to finally banish the Borgia and Cesare from Rome.
Sequence 9: The Fall
This is the last bit of the game as Ezio, so be sure to upgrade your weapons and armor with whatever you need. You'll now return to the scene from the start of the game. Mash the buttons on screen to struggle against Cesare. Afterwards, kill his guards and move further along the war torn path. You'll soon make your way to the ravaged city.
Keep in mind that you have no support of your assassins, so you will need to heavily rely on your own stealth to make it through. Use your double hidden blades to assassinate several guards at once, making it even simpler to get by.
Stay on the roofs and avoid being detected. The soldiers below will be fighting amongst themselves, so they will ignore you unless you enter the fray. Climb the siege towers and make it deeper into the city. Once again, use absolute stealth to make it into the castle walls. Being, seen will completely destroy your chances of making it in safely.
Along the castle walls you'll be in a final showdown with Cesare. Stick with the very basic tactic of kicking him in the shins and sneaking in a few sword swipes while he is stunned. Each time you do enough damage, you'll enter a quick time event to bash off his armor. Eventually, Cesare will call in the guards, but it's just easier to stick on him and ignore his helpers. Once all of Cesare's armor is broken, make a final killing blow to end Ezio's story.
Present Day: Rome
With the Sequences complete, you'll once gains take control of Desmond. Move back up to the upper halls and examine the triangles to learn what they really mean.
You'll now be in Rome and will have to scale across the Colosseum. You'll be able to make it through the underground and into the very depths of the Borgia castle and the Vatican.
The Colosseum can be confusing, but thankfully the camera will pan in directions to show you the next platform to move to. Also, since Desmond has no health par, he is immune to taking any form of falling damage.
Climb up the various shafts, swing across platforms and sling to the top of ropes. You'll know you're on the right track when you spot a pile of hay below. Dive down just as Ezio and Caterina did when they were here.
Use your Eagle Vision to discover button and new paths as you explore the lost Assassin caves. You'll soon find the halls leading to the top, leading to the inside of the Vatican chapel.
Let your fellow Assassins back into the building so you can regroup. Climb the structures ahead and press the glowing switch in the distance. Climb across the newly deployed pillars and lights. Circle around the left hand side and swoop all the way to the right. When jumping across the light fixtures, be sure to move up to their upper sections and face your next platform. Every so often, new gates and opens will appear to allow you makeshift check points. Flip the switch in the middle of the room and proceed back to the lower depths.
Use your Eagle Vision to find the final resting place of the Apple of Eden. Several shinning pillars will rise from the ground. Climb and jump over these to connect the entire puzzle on the ground. Some times you'll see poles protruding from columns in the center. Before to alternate which one you grab onto, as some of them may cause the pillars to retract back into the ground. Once all of the devices are raised, return to the Assassins and gain the Apple. After a short scene, kill Lucy to finish Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.
