Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood confirmed for fall

Ubisoft's clandestine action adventure featuring multiplayer mode will be coming to Xbox 360, PS3, PC later this year.

by

Ubisoft offered gamers a curious update on the Assassin's Creed franchise in January, saying that the next "episode" in the series would introduce "an online multiplayer mode." Though scant few other details on the project have been made available, Ubisoft has said that it will be a stand-alone product featuring Assassin's Creed II protagonist Ezio. A URL registration from April also indicated that the game would be titled Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.

Today, additional details about Assassin's Creed's journey into multiplayer emerged, courtesy of leaked GameStop promotional materials obtained by gaming blog Kotaku. "Live and breathe as Ezio, now a legendary master assassin, in his struggle against the Templar order. Lead your own brotherhood of assassins and strike at the heart of the enemy, Rome," the promo reads.

"And for the first time, take part in an innovative multiplayer layer allowing you to embody an assassin of your choosing and define their killing style," it continues. The promo, which Ubisoft confirmed for GameSpot as being authentic, also indicates that Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC this fall. Additionally, those who preorder the game through GameStop will receive an "exclusive multiplayer character."

Beyond Ezio, the promo features a number of eclectically dressed assassins, including one female figure. All wear guises that could be considered appropriate for Assassin's Creed II's Renaissance-era time period. Notably absent from the art, though, is original Assassin's Creed protagonist Altair.

A Ubisoft representative also told GameSpot that more information concerning Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood will arrive next week.

Can someone please clear this up: is this a sequel to the story left at the end of AC2, or is it just multiplayer + kill all templars in Rome? I'm quite confuzzled, and any answers would really help...

This looks sweet. Playing through II now and will get this when it comes out. Unless I don't like AC2 after playing further through the game -- although I *highly* doubt that will happen.

@ Osiris1112 developers and producers who milk a series for too long usually end up ruining the titles good name, Bioshock 2, RE5 was not a RE game and thats a definite fact, Activision running the COD series into the ground, Halo, only few developers have been successful at coming back from this such as BUngie is attempting to get back the lost fans. AC2 was great without a doubt but it had time to develop and fix its flaws this has only been in development for several months, I hate to say it but it reminds me of how ODST was made within 6-8 months and had some extra features slapped on like co-op. I hope you right and it turns out good but only time can tell. As for me I won't be sold something thrown of the assembly line like R6V2

the summary page says that the game is rated adults only, shouldnt it say rating pending instead of that or has it already been confirmed?

@freethinker101.you may not know what your talking about but i do so im not afraid someone will come in here so prove me wrong like i have done to you already.giving the fact that many of there temples are in central america and that they never help the Spanish as you said they did just shows me that you know nothing about there history.and you can have a Mexican friend who lives in mexico and know nothing about the Maya culture.you already prove that much.so if you can disprove all i have posted in here or prove anything you said with facts like i have then please not reply, because i don't feel like disproving you for the fourth time.nuff said.

@Fulcon_falcon I would like to put a stop to this your text was very informative and on some levels you are right, but you have to think of the Maya as sepertae tribes, but one people. While in general the Maya were hostile to the invading forces, they were also no fans of the Aztecs who also levied heavy tax's. In the numbers Cortez had it would have been impossible for him to achieve what he did with out help from the local tribe. The fact that this was done trhough bribery and corruption would obly help your idea for AC3 even more interesting. Also I would like to stop this history lesson before someone that really knows puts us both in our places. My initial comment was on the fact that the Mayans and Aztecs settled in the continent that is now North America, even though they are not afforded the same access to the US that say the Canadians are. In the words of Stan Lee "Nuff Said"

I think they want to keep the Franchise going longer than a trilogy bcuz they see how successful it is. that and they probably feel that they can't fit the whole story in just 3 games yknow. Also reusing ACII's maps will save a lot of money. I'm happy they're doing this :) can't wait till we go to places like Feudal Japan, WW2, ect. Can't wait till the series hits next gen consoles in like 2013 too!

Interesting, although despite me thinking that AC2 was awesome, I just haven't felt compelled to get the DLC's or extras. I'll def get AC3 cause I'm very interested in the story.

@Freethinker101..and you must be talking about Melchor and Julian who were Cordoba interpreters.they were slaves and its not that the Mayan help the Spanish to over take the Aztec, its was only two slaves not the whole Civilization.

fulton_falcon
fulton_falcon

@Freethinker101....the Maya civilization went has far down to modern day Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador and western Honduras, which is central america. The Mayans fought the Spanish invaders for 20 years, but eventually succumbed. The Mayans were slaughtered during the battles with the Spaniards, but imported European diseases decimated the population. The Mayans were moved into villages and paid heavy taxes to the Spanish government. There were periodic rebellions against the Spanish. The Spanish Conquest of Yucatan was to over take the Maya territories because the Maya were hostile towards the Spanish crown. The Spanish Church and government officials destroyed Maya texts and with them the knowledge of Maya writing, but by chance three of the pre-Columbian books dated to the post classic period have been preserved. The last Maya states, the Itza polity of Tayasal and the Ko'woj city of Zacpeten, were continuously occupied and remained independent of the Spanish until late in the 17th century. They were finally subdued by the Spanish in 1697.and all three city's are found in modern day Guatemala, which is in central america.so where you get your info or who ever teaches you about history does not inform you to well.Because in fact the Maya where in central america, they did not like the Spanish, and they never helped the Spanish to over take the Aztec.

i hope they have the basic capture the flag mode and team death match but i hope they have things like races, assassination kinda like killzone 2 where you had to go after one guy, or a horde mode although i dont know how that would work. ill still get this though.

@Ares360 ......Ummm, why are you complaining already? Did you by any chance read the article? Unless I am reading wrong I saw nothing about TDM or what kind of modes they are putting into the game. And if you noticed "Ubisoft has said that it will be a STAND-ALONE product" means that it wont continue off of the ACTUAL series. So before you go blabbing on about something you know nothing about, just wait and see. Personally, I think some Co-op wouldn't hurt this game in the least and would only strengthen the fanbase while leaving a couple friendless people angry. And to a new one coming every year, why cant they? They already know where they're going with the story and they can take from AC2 and only improve upon their faults since that game was near perfect already.

Hmmmm..A Medieval/Old school Splinter Cell perhaps? But with swords and hidden blades? Ubisoft DID make the Splinter Cell series after all, so I don't see how stealth elements can't be done.

Hey wait a minute? This seems kinda short notice. Let me guess, our copies of Assasin's Creed II already have this stuff locked away somewhere. So "later this year" Ubisoft will make a big announcement that we can buy a code for $60 and unlock this "sequel" on the AC II dvd.

I think it's a horrible idea, to tarnish AC's legacy of having no MP and I don't blame them, it's a horrible idea. Also they're not putting any work into this. Less than a years work into an AC game PHBBT!! That's what I think. Let's just wait and see.

so is this assassin's creed 3? or a side-story kinda thing? looks fun tho either way!

@ Rudorlf I agree with you completely mainly that games like AC should not have online thats like making God of War have online play its asinine and AC should only focus on the single player not some stupid multiplayer which won't be good, how do you assassinate someone who knows your an assassin, how do you catch someone as fast as you it will be awful and as for this story I'm not certain but only time can tell. AC2 took 2 years, it hasn't even been 6 months since AC2's release and we have a Q2010 meaning Fall 2010.

Ares360

Going to tank and I can't believe ubisoft passed the contract, from here on out the assassin games will get worse. Ubisoft somehow passed the contract for a new AC game every year and will milk this franchise to its grave. Given it won't be a year between this one and the previous title means not to much will change. Also how could an assassin tdm work that sounds like army of two in a way spy vs spy which was horrible. Ubisoft congrats your conforming into EA just leave Ghost Recon and Rainbow 6 alone.

I wonder if the story mode is gonna be the same and the multiplayer is gonna be like a simple free for all and team deathmatch between 5-10 people. Sounds like a simple way to make both story and multiplayer games perfect

jokerzrus

I don't think in this game there going to be able to pull of both the game modes to be good (story and multiplayer). It's going to be one or the other, and in this case I'm going to have to say multiplayer.

Ever since i discovered Final Fantasy games i had that as my religion. When Assassins Creed came out a few years, i totally fell in love with every aspect of the game, AC2 was even better. I hope that AC3 will be even more awesome, but i have no doubt about that. I just hope that the online-multiplayer, has some type of co-op. Cos i'm not really into the whole versus modes(yes i suck at it...horribly). Can't wait for the 4th part of AC though, i wanna know how the story will develop.

Virtual_nathan
Virtual_nathan

Damn it . I know it will be awesome . But i sure hope they won't make it short because of the multiplayer . I loved AC2's length . If they keep it this way , and the multiplayer is only "Online Free-Roam" like RDR and 4 player co-op i'll be happy .

If the single player campaign or story suffers IN THE LEAST from this, I'm gonna be pissed. I don't give a rip about multiplayer in the AC series; I play the games for the crazily screwed up, totally unbelievable stories they can weave.

David_Kniffin
David_Kniffin

If there is a versus multiplayer game, won't it be very frustrating to catch your opponent? Catching a running AI can be hard enough sometimes; I can't imagine chasing an actual human. I'm very interested in what they do though. However, I do not wish to see multiplayer shoved down our throats the entire game. I still want a compelling single player campaign on par with AC2.

@Fulton_Falcon. Mexico is in North America dude, and although the Mayans were involved the Spanish's fight mainly dealt with the Aztecs who are a different tribe. In fact the Mayans were instrumental in helping the Spanish bring down the Aztecs by providing them with a Spanish sailor who spoke Mayan, and an Aztec girl who spoke Mayan and Azteca, anyway dude please in future get it right. Mexico, the Mayans and the Aztecs are in North America regardless of what the USA would like yo to believe.
