Assassin's Creed Unity, Battlefield Hardline, and Far Cry 4 Top GameSpot's Most Anticipated Fifty

We take a look at how the games people are most looking forward to on Xbox One, PS4, PC, Wii U, Xbox 360, PS3, Vita, and 3DS.

The GameSpot Fifty, our own list of the 50 most-anticipated upcoming games gives you an in-depth look into what everyone is talking about and what people most want to play in the coming year.

The current top three games in overall rankings (across all current- and last-gen consoles and handhelds as well as PC) are:

  1. Assassin's Creed Unity
  2. Battlefield Hardline
  3. Far Cry 4

Results are updated daily at 8AM and reflect the current gaming trends by analyzing what people are reading across the entire GameSpot Network. And you can see the highest rank a game has achieved right on the list; notably Dragon Age: Inquisition previously held a number two spot, and the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. climbed up to number three.

The number one games for each platform are:

We'll be passing along regular updates and analyzing the data over time to monitor how your tastes change over the year, but what are your currently most-anticipated games? Are you surprised by either how high (or how low) any of the games are on the list?

What you people (gamespot) need to understand is just because I'm reading about it, doesn't mean I want it.....  Sometimes I'm just curious about what's new and stupid.  I've read articles about games I want nothing to do with, so it kind of dumps a load of "Pull your head out" on your article.  Hardline.......please...

Justin, I like your articles, really. But let's keep this Gamespot Fifty off the main site, shall we?

A website dedicated to hype machine is just a terrible idea to the industry.

Why track Anticipation, since players only "anticipate" games purely based on the marketing campaign the publisher put up? That's why you don't have one Indie title on the top. Simple because Indies spend little in marketing.

With NDAs and embargos, we can only know for sure how good (or how hard should we recommend it) a few days after it's release. This practice of caring too much about the hype hurts the consumers really bad. It's something that can make players walk away from the hobby.

Please stop this nonsense in influencing people to make bad decisions with their money. Please.

Gamespot Fifty is just a pre-order bait. It's just wrong.

This "Top 50" algorithm looks to me like a feedback loop to entice publishers with huge promotional budgets to outspend one another on their geriatric game IP's.  Frankly, I want to know what people actually enjoy playing, not who's bludgeoned the most gamers with pre-release advertising.  I wish we could discount each IP's promo spend from the ranking.  Then we might see what people are really interested in.  I have a hunch the list would be much different.

"Results are updated daily at 8AM and reflect the current gaming trends by analyzing what people are reading across the entire GameSpot Network."

With those criteria it's important to keep in mind that games with more coverage will get read about more, and have higher rankings, that said, I don't have a better way to track anticipation without conducting an expansive survey.

Alot of stupid people still believing in EA with the re-skin BF4 I mean hardline

I didn't think BF Hardline would be that high, people seem to think of it as a glorified DLC. Whatever people say about Ubisoft, you can't say that their franchises aren't popular. AC Unity being no 1 and FC 4 being no 3 confirms that.

Well duh nothing else to look forward to and besides both titles are milkers. Titles that come out every year that people buy in droves every year even if their rehashed titles from the previous years. (except Farcry 4)

It just seems more and more sheep is added to gamer's stock than anything else these days. But then again it's how EA and others remain in business. I mean hell could you imagine if they actually brought out quality games? Yeah me neither....

I'm surprised COD is not on the top 3 list considering all the COD fanboys.

Sometimes I'm ashamed at my fellow gamers.

Since Unity won't have a female character, maybe they could comprise with partial males:  Assassin's Creed Eunuchy.

July 17th Destiny ail be number one because thats when the beta comes out for PS4 and then the later for xb1

I'm surprised Halo 5 and The Master Chief collection are in the top 25. I thought Gamespot's biased Sony editors and its community had driven all the Xbox fans from this site.

I find it REALLY hard to believe Watch_Dogs is beating Smash.

Yawn. Typical Gamespot. Promptly forgetting what really matters which are Middle-Earth Shadow of Mordor, Lord of The Fallen, No Man's Sky, Elite Dangerous, Destiny and I guess Dragon Age Inquisition?

Odd that I find comfort and solace in knowing that I don't anticipate a single one of the titles listed. Just goes to show you that "Top X" lists don't mean a damn thing. The only list that matters is your own.

Seriously you going to put Dragon Age: Inquisition as the RPG game? Gamespot do you game, The Witcher 3 is were it's at yo.

@tomservo51 Yeah, it's terrible when thousands of people don't like what one specific person likes.

@SingletreeAve  yeah putting breasts on a male model and using a female voice actress is too hard. =)

@b00me Pretty much. I'm more in the middle, though I am a fan of the Xbox One, and ever since E3 last year I stopped visiting this website regularly. Terrible, terrible journalism.

@berserker66666 So what "really matters" are the games that matter to you ? Everyone has to like the things you do ?

pongley

@berserker66666 They were in the list. This is what users were looking at, not what Gamespot picked.

MadKeloo

@EasyComeEasyGo Yo if Dragon Age Inquisition isn't what you like means it's not an RPG and doesn't "deserve" to be on that list, only TW3 is ? LOL
I'm a also a witcher fan, played both games 5 times each, read the books, and I'm eager to play TW3 but DAI is also an RPG so what's the problem really ?

It seems to be that many on this site perceive their opinions and taste in games as being the "only right one", and everyone who disagrees with them is stupid and doesn't know what his talking about, isn't a "tru gamer".

@waffleiron88 It's just based on what pages people were looking at through E3. Hardline's beta is on now, so naturally people are going to read about the game. In a month it'll be #52.

@waffleiron88 @EasyComeEasyGo Yeah...GameSpot had no editorial input into this. It's 100% generated from user info and behvaior across GameSpot, Giant Bomb, GameFAQs and our other sites.

Hurvl

@justinhaywald @waffleiron88 @EasyComeEasyGo But people will still find a way to blame you for the results of any lists you post, whether you had any influence on them or not. Although, people are also quite eager to call the entire gaming community stupid for not liking what they personally like, so perhaps they'll do that instead.
