Assassin's Creed 4 single-player DLC launching December 17

Ubisoft reveals launch date of Freedom Cry expansion for latest Assassin's Creed game.

by

Players eager to see where the story of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag heads next will be able to do just that on December 17 when the game's single-player Freedom Cry DLC is released.

The release date was featured in an advertisement for the game in the latest issue of the Game Informer magazine (via Videogamer). The Freedom Cry expansion puts players into the boots of Edward Kenway's first mate Adéwalé. The expansion, set fifteen years after the events of the main campaign, spans nine missions totaling more than 4 hours of content.

The advertisement features logos for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, but no mention of Wii U or PC. Also, no price for the content was mentioned, though it is included with the Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag season pass. A Ubisoft representative was not immediately available to comment.

Is the DLC open world? As much as I loved AC4, there weren't many main missions worth revisiting.

How about release a patch to fix the pc version so I can play the game for more than 5 minuets without getting really pissed off?!

Can't wait to see if it makes getting the season pass worth the cost.

Wasn't so keen on this, then I bought it and it's as awesome as any AC game, pirate thing totally works.

As single-player dlc goes, this one is sounding pretty substantial.

black flag in my opinion was a huge waste of time!!..dont get me wrong! i love assasins creed! even have the symbol tattood on my back(fanatic)..but this one just died!...the pirating part is awesome! i will give them that...but it ends fast!!, once you build up resources and coin to max your ship and homestead (which is very easy without those time saver deals they are selling)..you have no reason to do it anymore...there is nothing you can use from the looting of the ships...NOTHING!..you gain money fast in this game pirating..so by the time you did up your ship..all there is to do is sell off the resources for cash...but then nothing to spend cash on..no repairs needed to armor..some for the ship but minimal...you have nothing to spend on....so basicly if ya like to just keep doing the same repetitive thing over and over and over again with nothing new in the horizon for a reward..then this is for you..and i feel like new buyers are getting ripped off for certain things..like those community challenges!! they had one the first weekend of release for a Explorer suit..i have it but cannot get it again for a new game aswell as anyone who bought it after the challenge was over...cant get it but needed for 100% completion...also if you do get it and after your game is done and ya want to experiance it all over again!..nothing carries over to a new game...xept for things obtained in the kenways fleet missions..those carry over! like treasure maps for ship plans...just helps to max your ship out early again so ya have no reason to pirate other then just to cause mayhem...but even that gets repetitive with zero new or surprising after a few hours of gameplay...then after the credits roll they toss ya back in for free roaming...but for what? there are no missions or anything to do..nothing other then keep sailing and attacing random ships for no reason because ya cant use the loot for anything...ya got it all!..no continuous assassin mission or anything to keep you playing so that you might see a community challenge event pop up...nadda to do...ive replayed this game 3 times now to see if i could do things differently to make it harder or more interesting...you cant, same ole same ole over n over...zero reward for total completion...there is just nothing t do..im really hoping the next game is the same pirate char aswell or this story was also a complete waste of your time...dont want to spoil so you will have to seek that info out for yourselves...but yea...very let down by lack of stuff to do after buying the gold edition and basicly shelfing it 3 days after purchase out of boredom...ya can only sail so much with zero reason for doing so...if we could rent these...i would honestly say rent it dont buy it!!..just my opinion.

No mention of PC. Not cool considering I have gotten a Golded Edition which includes Season Pass.

Played all AC games so far.  Not Black Flag.  Is it worth getting?

Although I think AC IV is a great game with a decent amount of content, this dlc being left out of the release really burns me.  I'm fine with purchasing LIBERATION on console next month, but this BLACK FLAG dlc isn't large enough -- or long enough out from initial game release -- to make it feel anything but a jerky play by UbiSoft.  Ubi, you may have just lost me

Adéwalé was an awesome character in terms of development. Can't wait to play this, just wish it was more than 4 hours.

I'm still confused as to where my exclusive hour of Abilene content is. Are we waiting for that or was it already available and I'm somehow missing it?

Damn, I still have ac4 for ps4 still sealed. I better start playing.

Wow, that's soon. Most single player Assassin's Creed dlc doesn't launch until into the new year.

@TehUndeadHorror I loved the game, but I agree.  The best part of the game was in all the side activities.  They need to hire better writers.  I was surprised when the game ended.  I finished the last mission, a couple cinematics played, and then the credits rolled.  I was really shocked that it was over.  I didn't really have a feeling that the end was coming.  Good writing should build up to the end in a way that the player knows he is overcoming the final obstacle.

@TheShadow153 I translated this from google so readers wont have to look it up anymore:

I played all the AC and each story has been very good, as I disagree is about the exploration. The first AC in terms of exploration were a bit boring, in ACIII hunting attracted some exploration about the concerns but still lacked something more. ACBF is perfect for me because it keeps its good gameplay on land and its previous versions but this time with piracy that gives great touch to the exploration and makes it fun so attractive to me is the best. If their first versions for many I think would be more of the same, and people today always looking for something new and refreshing

You made some good points about the money but it's still a great game. The best in the series by far. Not sure about the 3 days thing though. I've played four 6hr sessions and I'm about 20% complete looking at the missions and map secrets. I guess you just rushed through the campaign. I suggest you try walking and enjoying the beautiful scenery, rather than running everywhere and using fast travel. You need to focus your discontent on all those 20hr cinematic games like Tomb Raider. AC4 is a must have game, not a renter. Best launch title and really shows off the next gen power of PS4.

Rather than sell it, just play it through, leave it 6 months and play it again from the start. All the battles, land and sea, play out different and you will get a different score. Regarding the money thing. The same happened in Skyrim. I bought everything but kept on playing for 650hrs because I had my own target, earning as much money as I could. I reached millionaire status then doubled it. The fun was in the fighting and living the life, not just getting some reward.

Same happened in Far Cry 3 but they later gave the option to reset all the outposts. My guess is that they will do the same here with an update that resets the map after game completion, so you have other stuff to do. I will definitely be replaying some of the mission because the stealth stuff was real fun when trying to get the no combat alert bonus. I failed a few right at the last moment which I could do better next time around.

By the way, all games are repetitive. You've only got to look at the popular COD FPS multiplayer. Run in, kill as many as you can, die, respawn, do it all again over and over. It all boils down to whether you like what you're repeating. Personally, I really love AC4. The sea battles never get tiresome due to the various cannon combinations and the AI ship situations you find yourself in. More often than not, t the joy of the battle is the reward. But that's just my opinion.

@jhonMalcovich While the WiiU has already been confirmed to not receive any DLC, I assume PC will get it the same day as console. Ads usually don't list PC as a platform as they usually just feature console since PC is pretty much digital only in US.

Game Informer is also GameStop's magazine, and it mostly just features console games since I've only seen reviews for PC games on major releases like StarCraft II and Diablo 3. GS usually doesn't advertise PC because of mainly being digital only platform and GS doesn't make a lot of money from PC so why advertise something they don't make a buck on. My local GS got rid of their PC section and they now only have a WoW standing display as their only PC games in stock.

I remember 10 years ago when half the shelves in GS was PC games. My, how times have changed.

@Riddick123 If you liked the naval stuff from 3 with the Aquila AC4 is worth getting. Basically you get to free roam with a Pirate ship in a big open world ocean plus all the usual land based AC things to do. Crap load of stuff to do. If you're a find all the fragments, collect all the stuff, do all the side missions guy, there is a load of stuff here.

It is the same ole, same ole AC on the one hand with some of the same stuff that still just doesn't work like it seems it should at this point but the all put to sea aspect seems to have freshened it up somehow. Best one since Brotherhood (and I've played 'em all except the PSP and DS ones.)

@Riddick123 I'm about 10 hours in and I'm loving it. IMO, not as good as 2 or Brotherhood, but still very good.

@Riddick123 I have too and I rank them AC4 >= AC2 > AC1 > AC3  : ) so I'd say yes it's very good. Has lasted many many hours too, with all the new side-stuff to do.

@Adavanter If you've downloaded it with the code provided, go to Black Flag's opening title/menu screen.  There you will find a tile with Aveline.  Click on it and it will start her gameplay content.

@virtualskill  As good as 2 or Brotherhood?  Guess I know what I am getting myself for Christmas.  Be spending many hours on the 360 it seems.  My cousin said he likes it.
