Even with a barrage of high-profile releases for the past few weeks, gamers will definitely not catch a break this week. First up on the release pile is Resident Evil: The Mercenaries. This exclusive 3DS title's concept spawned off from the minigame introduced in Resident Evil 4 and expanded upon in Resident Evil 5. The game will feature extensive character customization, new control schemes to fit the 3DS button layout, and online Wi-Fi play. Players with Nintendo's new system can participate in multiplayer mayhem when the game ships tomorrow.
2D fighting game fans can now take it to the digital streets once again in the latest update of Super Street Fighter IV in retail form. The Arcade Edition of the game features four new characters, the latest character balances and updates, and new updates to the replay channel that lets players follow an opponent's recent game and check out proficient fighters with high battle points. The game is out for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. On a related note, GameSpot Asia will be holding a game night this Friday in Singapore to celebrate the game's retail release.
The English version of the hack-and-slash Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3 will be out tomorrow as well for both the Xbox 360 and PS3. Players will get to choose between different pilots and Gundam mechas from the Mobile Suit Gundam anime series to kill legions upon legions of enemy robots using melee or ranged attacks. This iteration now has cel-shaded graphics, revamped enemy AI, and new extra modes for added longevity.
The open beta for the rerelease of massively multiplayer online role-playing game Hellgate (now subtitled Hellgate: Resurrection) will be live starting June 30. Like the 2007 title, players take control of templars, cabalists, and hunters as they fight online to save humanity from the growing legions of Hell. The open beta will introduce two new modes, the Duel Area where player-versus-player action happens, and the Cow Room where players kill hordes of zombies in the room to get rare item drops. Unlike the 2007 title, Hellgate: Resurrection will be free to play.
Last but not least is the latest downloadable content for Call of Duty: Black Ops called Annihilation. The latest expansion contain four new maps for multiplayer mode and one new map called Shangri La exclusively for zombie mode. The PC and PS3 versions of the DLC will come out at a later date.
