Even with big titles like Gears of War 3, Resistance 3, and FIFA 12 already out, new releases of high-profile titles aren't letting up as October arrives.

Leading the charge is the spiritual successor to Demon's Souls, titled Dark Souls. The action role-playing game features a fantasy open world filled with tough enemies and giant bosses, new systems like the bonfire and humanity points, and over 80 hours of gameplay. The Japanese version was recently listed as the top-selling title of the week of September 19; check out GameSpot's coverage of the title for more information and an upcoming review.

Up next is id Software and Bethesda's shooter called Rage, which will be available on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 tomorrow. The first-person shooter is set in a future where Earth has been ravaged, thanks to an asteroid, leaving civilization in the pits. Gamers control a surviving member of the Earth-repopulating Ark project who has to survive in the new wasteland populated by bandits, a ruthless government body called the Authority, and mutants big and small.

In addition to its 12-hour spanning single-player mode that has a mix of shooting, item engineering, and wasteland racing, the title has multiplayer and showcases the developer's new engine called id Tech 5. For more information, check out GameSpot Asia's recent interview with the lead developers and stay tuned to GameSpot's upcoming review this week.

Gamers who would much rather be knee-deep in tower defense can check out Orcs Must Die! for the Xbox 360, downloadable via Xbox Live Arcade. Players need to, of course, slaughter wave after wave of orcs while also setting up defenses for additional support. The game is developed by Robot Entertainment, a company owned by many of the founders of Ensemble Studios.

Finally, basketball fans can check out the latest iteration of the NBA 2K series. New features include an improved physics engine and improved modes from NBA 2K11 like Creating a Legend and My Player. The game will be out tomorrow for all major consoles.
