From Software has shot to prominence in recent years due to its critically acclaimed action role-playing games Demon's Souls and Dark Souls. However, the company has been for years a proponent of mecha with its Armored Core franchise, and the latest installment in that line has homed in on a March 20 bow in North America (and March 23 in Europe).
Armored Core V will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Publisher Namco Bandai also confirmed today that those who preorder the title from GameStop in America will be granted the Heavy Assault Pack add-on. The downloadable content includes a swath of in-game parts that will "help give players a competitive advantage on day one."
Armored Core V maintains the franchise's focus on high-octane mech combat and comprehensive customization options. From Software has focused on delivering more content this time around by incorporating new environments and enhancing the game's offline mode. Online modes will also be available, and they'll emphasis large-scale, team-based battles.
Armored Core V will also make a substantive break from previous installments in the franchise by offering smaller-scale mechs. The change, in theory, will shift the focus to more tactical gameplay, as opposed to brute-force attacks.
The game is slated to arrive on Japanese shelves within the month, having been delayed last August to incorporate feedback from the game's online multiplayer beta test. For more information, check out GameSpot's previous coverage of Armored Core V.
