Arma III delayed

Bohemia Interactive postpones release of military shooter into 2013; extra development time will help game "reach its full potential."

Arma III has been delayed. Bohemia Interactive today announced that its military shooter will now release in 2013, with the extra development time enabling the game to "reach its full potential." Arma III was previously slated to arrive in 2012. A finalized release schedule for the game will be announced in the new year.

Bohemia Interactive described 2012 as an "eventful year." Not only did Arma III project lead Daniel Musil leave the company to pursue other opportunities, but Arma III developers Ivan Buchta and Martin Pezlar have been jailed on suspicion of spying on a trip to Greece. The developers have been detained for 95 days now, and a timetable for their release is uncertain.

"We're still trying to make sense of the situation and hope that our colleagues will be released soon," said new Arma III project lead Joris-Jan van ‘t Land in a statement. "Although their plight has certainly affected us on a personal level, we continue working on the tasks identified as key to the release of Arma 3."

In addition to Arma III, Bohemia Interactive is also working with designer Dean Hall on a standalone version of zombie shooter DayZ.

To repeat a post I made in the forum, I think it would be a timely move by Bohemia Interactive to release a version of ArmA III that runs on native Linux. Especially in light of the fact that valve have now released a Steam platform for Linux.

Blizzard have recently announced that they'll be releasing a game for Linux, while the developers of Unity 3-D have added Linux compatibility in the latest update of their game engine, so it just seems the perfect opportunity for BI to do it right now.

Even though it must be obvious to Greece that these guys are harmless, and the Czech president has spoken out for them, governments like to use incidents like these to play silly little power games. This is now a political incident between Greece and the Czech Republic, and the outcome will have political consequences.

This game should be delayed until they get those 2 developers out of jail.  Get them home to their families.

I always like when developers take their time, if they feel they can do more by all means take as much time as you need and give us and awesome game. For me the game just got a higher chance of actually turning out really awesome and with less problems :). Meanwhile i will keep enjoying Arma 2

This game draws much attention to the public because of the 2 imprisoned developers so they are promoting the game itself rather than expensive unrealistic commercials which COD does

bongsyas_23

they can make the game while in jail, and that will also give them something to do while waiting, so why delay it?

Take your time. Get it right. I'll wait.

@ N4o7A Look up some guidelines on youtube. Buy all of the necessary parts and have your local computer repair shop assemble the PC for you. I know everything about assembly now, but that's what I did with my first rig. Cost me roughly 1100 for a 2600k, gtx 570 SC, and 8gb ram with 1 TB HDD. You could go less money today and build one that could max nearly every game. Don't go over 1080p resolution and get a GTX 670, they are pretty beast. You could go with the AMD budget rig, but Nvidia has better driver support. It would be a solid investment because it will be like a next gen console with all of the capabilities of a power house PC.

Do we REALLY have to justify war games to the hippie peace-nik moron on the right side of the screen? Its a freaking GAME moron!!!

Of course it's delayed.. they got caught, now they have to send in more guys to take photos of military installations.

Would a 1k gaming rig be enough to play arma 3? I would def invest in one just to play this game...

Don't release ARMA until it's done, that's fine with me.

I hope they take their time, Arma 2 was extremely buggy on release. Anything to help make the launch smoother i am okay with.

Arma 3 delayed for 4 years, probably 2 with good behavior lol

Not that it matters. The ArmA community was ruined the moment DayZ gained popularity and the servers (even non-DayZ ones) were flooded with kiddies and more hackers brought over by the population.

I am really looking forward to getting this. Got the game originally for Day Z, then actually got into Arma 2 and loved it. It just feels so intense because of the magnitude. No game really matches up to it. The only thing that bothers me about the game are the bugs. So hopefully Arma 3 is really polished.

I like how people fanboy this game like their hardcore for playing it... word to the wise: if its a video game, simulator or not.. its NOTHING like the real thing. Not closer, or more realistic.. its still a game. If you like the game, then play it. If you don't, then you really do not need to make comments about it do you? But please stop feeling "cool" because you feel like you play a better game. Try joining the Marine Corps or another branch of the military if you want to be hardcore.. these video game commandos just make me laugh

Hope those guys will be release soon. That issue is rridiculous

I honestly could care less about this game. The market is already flooded with enough FPS games. I do hope the two guys finally get released though. No one should be jailed for something like this. Especially if they've already confiscated all of the equipment and evidence. They should be able to look at what they've got and decide fairly quickly if this was a spy attempt or not.

gufberg

Apparently one of the two jailed guys were the one responsible for outlining the DayZ map in the new engine -.- If DayZ doesnt become a good game i will blame Greece!

@Suikogaiden come on...you think they cant buy those kinds of photos from any military across the globe?...

if they want the newest photos of all the military organization in one country they can buy it from America or Russia military( but for a high price)

they dont need to send 2 game-dev to spy on Greece military compound ... and if they wanted to do that....they would hire a spy not a game developer :D

i hope they get out---

@N4o7A  why not invest 1k in a real life ar 15?? unless you live in a place without a 2nd amendment.  you would be better off to prepare for a collapse of some sort over a new gaming rig.

@IgotEpixx Admittedly the only nostalgia I get as a Arma 2 player these days (who has since moved to DayZ) is watching the Shack Tac videos on youtube.

It always makes me giggle seeing Gamespot talk about "War games and realistic military shooters" and then post pictures of MoH: Warfighter and Call of Duty. And then you go and watch Shack Tac 200 man co-op videos with full chain of command, communication etc. etc.

@Deadpool-n Well, I guess if that's what it took to discover the most complete, emergent, intense, relevant and demanding military gaming franchise to ever grace the planet, I can only say welcome.  Now that you been touched by the "ARMA knowledge", you'll never look at other (lesser) games quite the same way.

larkin-54

@blackace you have obviously not played ARMA its not a casual FPS its incredibly deep

Volgin_2

 @blackace

Calling ARMA3 an FPS, and putting it in the same trench as COD or BF, is plain wrong and misinformed. COD and BF kiddies and fanboys can't handle ARMA 3.

pooya_gojee
pooya_gojee

@blackace arma series is military simulator... not just an action fps(actually its not that action)...this game is for people that have unlimited patient cause it takes plenty of skills to kill but need just a little mistake to die

arma is not like any other fps out in the market...it is just arma...and its just awsome

Landsharkk
Landsharkk

@blackace I'm not sure if you've played Arma or Arma 2, but it is nothing like 'just another fps game'.

The Arma series sets itself apart from all other fps games (except for Operation Flashpoint, but that's to be expected).

SpazldNinjaDude
SpazldNinjaDude

@gufberg One or both were working on DayZ standalone also, so that has been pushed back for a while. I really hope the 2 guys get released soon, they were stupid, but the Greeks have gone a bit too far. Just make em pay a fine and confiscate the pictures the Greeks don't like (so delete them).

pooya_gojee

  @Cryptic_Shadow

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you

@Volgin_2  @blackace Putting COD and BF together is just as wrong as putting ARMA with BF.

Dont let that fanboy attitude ruin your comment, you know im right, games are different enough, no need to separate only the one you like and treat the others as if they were the same thing or for the same people.

Also saying cod and bf kiddies cant handle arma is just bs as you also know, its all about fun, i can handle ANY game no matter what but i play bf because it gives me more fun in less time, i prefer to use larger time spans for non-fps single player games.

@larkin-54 my bad, I meant built, already made a mistake of buying one b4...

@maxp84 @Venatorcruiser I think gun control is pretty strict in CA, even more stricter in SF I think, not too sure.

I know a civilian model one is available but there's plenty of paper work to deal with. Perhaps ill get one in the future, a bit before the zombie apocalypse lol

@Venatorcruiser A lot of people just assume all kids are dumb but I remember when I was younger, I played RTS games and WW2 flight Sims. I'm sure many kids can learn to play Arma if they wanted to but most just want to play COD lol.

Calling me a fanboy as well as a massive fail, counts as an ad hominem, I didn't cast the first stone here which makes you a hypocrite and an idiot for using words you don't even know the meaning of. The only failure here is your stupidity and running away like a chicken.

LOL hypocrite calls others hypocrites. Saying "kiddies can't handle ARMA 3" makes you a fanboy. He's not my buddy but he was right and you fail again. And you repeat peoples words - "you failed on that one buddy". Failure is also unoriginal, that's all I'm gonna say, toodles!

Please stop drinking whatever it is you are. When one says he could care less for ARMA 3 because the FPS market is flooded as it is. It automatically means, that person implied ARMA 3 is just another run of the mill shooter, else whats the point of making such a statement in the first place.Seriously, you couldn't figure it out on your own? you failed miserably on that one buddy.
