ArmA deployed to factory

Military simulation from makers of Operation Flashpoint goes gold, off to North American retailers May 1.

by

It was less than a month and a half ago that Atari announced it had picked up the North American publishing rights to ArmA: Combat Operations, and it hasn't wasted any time getting the game ready for the region. The company today confirmed that the game has gone gold and will ship to stores on May 1.

The PC game has already been released in Europe, where it is known as ArmA: Armed Assault. Prague game makers Bohemian Interactive, the same studio that produced Operation Flashpoint, handled the development duties.

Combat Operations is a realistic combat simulator played from a first-person perspective. In addition to the single-player game, the shooter features multiplayer modes that can support up to 50 players.

ArmA: Combat Operations will retail for $39.99 and is rated M for Mature. For more information, read GameSpot's previous coverage or head over to Atari's Web site.

i also loved FP and Resistance (almost more than Half life) and have been dieing for a Flashpoint 2 (which is basically this) granted its not for everyone, it still had a huge fanbase that made some awesome mods. as long as they can give us a solid "base game" that runs well without bugs then the community can make it a success. Ive got my fingers crossed

Unless they are going to put this game on the 360, I don't care.

Just wanted to point out that people will be able to download the full game from Atari.com/us on May 1, 2007. :) See you all on the battlefield! Having been a fan of some other games in the genre I myself am really curious to see how really large scale battles play out in multiplayer.

ArmA is essentially Operation Flashpoint 2. i had some wonderful memories with OFP and OFP resistance. though ive herad some issues with ArmA i may wait a bit to see how people in general take to it performance wise and gameplay wise. if all its good, then ill go buy it and join the battle as i love a realistic simulation.

WRONG! The game can support over 50 people.. Not to mention, if you get shot in the foot, you don't die.. You do however, if shot in the legs... essentially loose your legs. The game allows the 1000s of missions to be made by users, OFP had over 10,000 new units created (NO JOKE)..10,000.. and those addons will soon easily be ported over to ArmA without any problems.. so if you want a game that will soon support 10,000+ addons, 3,000+ maps LARGER than Crysis's 1 map... then buy this game.

I tried the demo and there was a lot to like about this game, like loadout and coop, but in the demo things were still pretty confusing. Plus, it was impossible to know who you were talking to, voIP or otherwise.

"Heres hoping after several months the North American version wont be buggy and clunky like the Euro one was..." It's been heavily patched and though not perfect yet..it continues to get great support and the last patch has made the game much more playable for those who had performance issues. I have the digital distribution of the internation version and I've no complaints outside of the lil bugs that are to be expected in games like this. Totally worth the $$$.

This game was all the rage at the end of 2006 for the fans of the genre when it first released in Europe. Too bad the game was a buggy pile o $#!! and the demo they released for the Euro version sucked bad. I was highly anticipating this game too... Heres hoping after several months the North American version wont be buggy and clunky like the Euro one was...

I hadn't heard much (anything, really) about this game so I went over to read the preview of it and got a little excited about it. I didn't know that this was the successor to Operation Flashpoint. That was a pretty good game. And this one looks like fun too. Admittedly though, I am daunted by the difficulty. I still have trouble with Ghost Recon.

i hear alot of good things about this game from the sim community, i like that , Ghost recon and OPF started something that never really felt completed, we haven't had good outdoor simulation shooters since that time, wow. i need to get swat 4 and this game to round out the new kings of tactical hill collection i'm starting, also featured is silent hunter.

The beta patch for 1.06 was pretty good, so hopefully this patched-up version will have better preformance then the 1.05 version. Plus you'll get the A-10 Thunderbolt II (swwweeett)

I played the demo and its aweful. Yes it's suppose to be realistic but that makes it suffer in the fun department.

Im getting the Australian (Euro) version today. Lets hope this one is not too buggy *crosses fingers*

Crossing fingers for a nice cleaned-up, patched-up North American version. I wanted this one to be fun, to be an alternative to BF 2142. It has tons of vehicles and a create-your-own map editor. That's meaningless if it's glitchy.

Wow, that game's title is annoying to read.

I played the demo and the EU version and it was really buggy and most unplayable online

I played the EU version. Could have been a lot better. Hopefully the NA release will live up to the Bohemia Name.

well it should be good, i know that the europe game version has had problems, but like operation flashpoint its a one of a kind game.
