Apple to hold news event September 10

iPhone maker sends out invitations to media for news event next week; tagline for presentation is "This should brighten everyone's day."

Apple today sent out invitations to media for a news event to be held on Tuesday, September 10.

An invitation sent to GameSpot sister site CNET was accompanied by the tagline: "This should brighten everyone's day."

The event will take place at Apple's headquarters in Cupertino, California beginning at 9 a.m. PDT. No announcement was made regarding the possibility of a live-stream for the event.

This date falls in line with a past report from the Wall Street Journal, which stated the event would be held on September 10. Apple is rumored to announce the next iPhone during the presentation.

Apple announced the iPhone 5--the latest iteration of the popular smartphone--during a September 2012 event. That phone went on to sell 5 million units in its first weekend on the market.

In addition to an iPhone 5 upgrade, Apple is rumored to be at work on a less expensive iPhone, as well as an iWatch.

Apple was a major partner for Battlefield and Mass Effect publisher Electronic Arts in the latest quarter. For the first time in the company's history, Apple was EA's most significant retail partner measured by overall sales during the April-June period.

"This should brighten everyone's day" It sure would brighten Apple's day, if they announce another phone that will sell millions within a few days. I don't get the craze behind it, but then again, I don't use my 6-year-old Nokia phone very much.

I wonder if it will be the "Apple TV" TV. That will really push the HTPC market. I'd pass, due to already having a very functional HTPC environment, but it would really push the HTPC market to the general population who would rather not mess with building, configuring, and troubleshooting an HTPC.

Even though I'm not an Apple fan, I always get excited for their announcements. Apple usually finds a way to show me something that I never knew I wanted. With the exception of the last iPhone, they usually leave you thinking, "Cool".

I wonder how the company will go, now they don't have an evil genius to lead them.

@snova9308 I think they won't do much worse in the near future, because the fanbase seems like they'll eat up whatever they're fed.

When it comes to the employees I don't think they're worried. They don't have Jobs to go to, but they still have jobs to go to.

Eh, don't really care for Apple products. Prefer Microsoft products since I grew up with them and I'm the kind of person who loves to heavily customize their PC, knowing their rig inside and out; it's something, I, as a PC owner take a lot of pride in. Yet if you are like a lot of people I know who enjoy Apple products, then more power to you. If someone like a companies product, then they like it. Don't see why so many are on anti-Apple crusades just because someone doesn't like the same product as them. Diversity is a good thing, isn't it?

Haters swarm like roaches to any mention of Apple on a web page. Website operators love you.

@DiscGuru101 @AvatarAssassin The currently iPhone 5 looks like a proper joke at £540.  Unless they half the price and increase the screen size from it's piddly 4" frame, this is a dead end street to nowhere.  Nobody cares about iOS's huge app store any more, because Android's is becoming bigger still and Windows Phone 8's is rapidly catching up.

Simply releasing a -really- crappy low end iphone at premium WP/Android handset prices, will not fix this.

Great!  I can't wait until they announce the Note 3.
