Apache: Air Assault firing up this fall

Activision bringing Gaijin-developed helicopter combat title to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 this year.

Eight years ago, Activision Value Publishing released Apache AH-64: Air Assault. The game bore a $19.99 price tag and arrived exclusively for the PC. Today, Activision announced its plans to release a high-definition version this fall called Apache: Air Assault for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Activision is bringing a new helicopter combat title to the PS3, Xbox 360 this fall.

The game is currently in development at Russian studio Gaijin Entertainment, whose most recent release was 2009's aerial combat title IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey. The title promises players several variations of Apache attack helicopters and 16 multistage single-player missions throughout volatile regions of Africa, the Middle East, and Central America.

Apache: Air Assault has two options of play for virtual pilots. Arcade mode is designed to introduce players to the game's controls. In addition to the introductory level, the game supports a Realistic mode, where "realism and precision" are the core focus.

In addition to the single-player experience, the title features a cooperative component where two players team up as pilot and copilot and fly through a combat experience together. Further, the game supports online multiplayer in the form of Team Deathmatch, Ground Attack, Capture the LZ, and Ground Strike.

It's about time we get a heli sim! Hopefully a fighter sim will be next. As in a realistic one, not like that Hawx madness.

16 single player missions :/ why dont they make games like they used to with living campaigns. I wish microsoft were still around lol. Saying all this really looking forward to this game, i hope they do the apache justice and make it sim like and not too arcade. My hopes are not that high because i thought il -2 was nowhere near as good on console as on pc. Hmmm fingers crossed!! This is on my to watch list!

I'm just glad someone is attempting to give us console people something to work with here. It may not be the best game ever, but at least it's something! It probably won't, but I hope this kicks off a trend of developers for these type of games to give us something for the consoles. More jet games, more helicopter games, more naval games, and would someone please give us a tank combat game.

Shall we start a campaign to get a HD remake of Desert/ Jungle/ Soviet and Nuclear Strike for PS3 and xbox. I would happily pay £10 just to see the animation of the truck blowing up by the Whitehouse at the end of Jungle strike!

THe original PC series was a nice, altough budgety arcade games. THis will be propably similiar, something like a more developed helicopter version of Ace Combat. Which is a good thing really. Any sort of attempt at making a real heli sim on consoles would result be pretty much unplayable anyway

Number of reasons I will pass on this. First, it will be a very simple arcade game if the PC version is any indicator. I think if you check how the PC version did it was nothing spectacular. Probably more BECAUSE it was an arcady type game then in spite of it.
