As reported by THR, the currently-untitled animated Spider-Man film is set for a December 2018 release, and will be written by Phil Lord. Lord is the co-director of The Lego Movie and the Jump Street movies, and is about to start production on the Star Wars spinoff focusing on the young Han Solo with filmmaking partner Christopher Miller.

Although Spider-Man: Homecoming is a co-production between Sony and Marvel, the animated feature will stand apart from the ongoing Marvel Universe.

Sony has also released further details about the new Ghostbusters cartoon, which has been rumoured since last year. It will be titled Ghostbusters: Ecto Force, and will be a futuristic show set in the year 2050. It is set for an early 2018 premiere.

Another Sony production on the way is Emojimovie: Express Yourself, the animated emoji feature which will hit theaters in August 2017. In April, plot details for the film were revealed. According to Sony Animation boss Kristine Belson, the movie will focus on the secret world in our smartphones, where emojis live and work.
