Animal Crossing: New Leaf sales pass 6 million

Nintendo reveals new sales milestone for 3DS game; Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon sales rise to 3.13 million.

3DS game Animal Crossing: New Leaf has now sold 6.35 million units globally, Nintendo announced today as part of its latest earnings report.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf was released in June 2013, meaning the game reached 6 million sales in under six months.

Nintendo also updated sales data for Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (3.13 million), Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (1.37 million), Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D (1.19 million), and the Japan-only Tomodachi Collection (1.63 million).

Sales information for Pokemon X/Y was not disclosed, as the game was released outside of Nintendo's latest financial reporting period. However, Nintendo separately announced earlier this month that the game sold more than 4 million copies in the two days after launch.

No it didn't! New Leaf's lifetime sales then were from November 2012 to October 2013, because it's lifetime sales, not US sales!

Woohoo, sales numbers using two decimals! You rarely get such precise numbers :P.

It's quite odd how much of a success the 3DS and its games are, while Nintendo's home console Wii U shows both mediocre console and software sales numbers.

I don't play it as much as when it came out, but I still pop in during the holidays [like Halloween today!]. I love the game for that^^.

Animal Crossing was released in Japan at the end of 2012. The sales are impressive, but the game reached past 6 million units sold about a year after its release.  The 3DS is doing really well.

Animal Crossing New Leaf has outsold The Last of Us. This is further proof that Nintendo first party titles trump all.

@19James89 No list of best selling games is complete without several of Nintendo's first party titles, they just need more of them to boost Wii u sales. The 3DS is doing fine, although I don't think it could match the DS sales numbers at 150+ million units.

@19James89 Well yeah but it was released before The Last of Us right?

*edit* Ooops nevermind both were released in June 2013 :s
