Angry Birds Star Wars confirmed for PS4, Xbox One

Bird-flinging puzzle game coming to next-generation consoles as launch titles next month; will use DualShock 4's touchpad and Kinect on Xbox One.

by

Rovio, Lucasfilm, and Activision jointly announced today that Angry Birds Star Wars will be released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as launch titles next month.

The Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, Wii U, PlayStation Vita, and 3DS versions are out today. The next-generation versions were revealed last week by the ESRB and GameFly.

"The success of Angry Birds Star Wars is a testament to the versatility of these iconic franchises," Rovio Entertainment EVP of Games Jami Laes said in a statement.

The PS4 version of Angry Birds Stars will use the DualShock 4's touchpad for "precision, touch-screen handling," as well as the PlayStation Move controller. The game also supports the PS4's "Share" functionality for capturing and sharing images and video.

Angry Birds Star Wars on Xbox One also supports video and image sharing, as well as motion and voice controls through the Kinect 2.0 included with every system. In addition, the Xbox One version of Angry Birds will make use of timed challenges through the console's overhauled achievement system.

Angry Birds for PS4, Xbox One, and Wii U sells for $50, while the Xbox 360, PS3, PlayStation Vita, and Wii versions are priced at $40. The 3DS iteration goes for $30.

Angry Birds Star Wars originally launched for mobile devices in November 2012 and has been downloaded over 100 million times. A sequel with Skylanders-style toys was released in September.

I can't believe it costs 39.99 on my PS Vita. I've been playing it free on my iPhone. What the hell is going on?!

Skylanders is successful because parents see it as a great game for their kids while Christmas shopping then once the kids won't stop bitching that they need more character figures for their game they're compelled to buy more of them to shut their children up.

Seriously?  Are gamers really this stupid to buy an old casual game for their PS4/Xbox One?

LOL @ $50... cmon guys, you made a fortune out of a cruddy game using a free open source physics engine. You got REAL lucky. Go spend it, disappear, and never mention this game again and do us all a favour. I'd rather give $50 to the taxman than pay for this.

The force is too strong on this one

This'll be the only launch title for the Xbox One that runs native 1080p.

Muahaahahahaha.

Holy crap, why does it cost so much?  I haven't paid a cent for any of the angry birds games on my phone.  At least they could sell it cheap, or something.

"The success of Angry Birds Star Wars is a testament to the versatility of these iconic franchises," Yeah, versatility, that's the correct word to describe it, not milkability and unholy unions. After they launch on the next-gen consoles, they'll be available on 14 different platforms, talk about your multiplat games.

Even though they'll be one with the Force, I still can't help but mourn all the casualties of the casual craze that Star Wars has turned into. When you turn to EA for A New Hope, you know things are bad.

Can't wait to pay $50 for a $1 mobile game.

Now this is a console seller.

Although i kinda like these bugs, I think the price point for the game is really high, especially considering how you can play it in other platforms (almost free)...so it's up to the publisher to make up for what they're charging people and give away some real extra value for home consoles...if they don't consider this, the popularity from the characters might go down the tube just as fast as it rose like foam during all these years!!  Isn't Activision behind this one? Hmm...go figure!!!

This $50 price point is a perfect example of how the industry continues to take advantage of consumers. If base pricing was more in line with reality $30-$20 a game instead of $60 and digital downloads didn't actually cost MORE than the retail counterparts then titles like this would actually be priced fair enough to generate excitement and positive camaraderie. Instead, consumers troll, make snarky comments and express general disdain for the industry.

Like the old saying goes, and I think it applies here to the way the industries gaming profit machine has been running lately, don't bite the hand that feeds you.

@desert_thief @mori70 Since it's already available on 12 platforms and might even be superior on some of them (and certainly cheaper), I assume that he's sarcastic.
