And The Beat Goes On

17-year industry veteran and ex-Electronic Arts composer founds a new game-minded audio company.

Darryl Duncan, an ex-Electronics Arts Florida composer, has founded GameBeat Inc., an audio company specializing in music and sound effects for the video-game industry.

After nearly two years at Electronic Arts Florida, Duncan decided to follow in the footsteps of fellow industry composer Tommy Tellerico and start his own studio. Located in a suburb of Orlando, Fla., GameBeat comprises a total of six sound engineers. It has already been contracted by EA to compose tracks for their upcoming Madden 2000, Madden 2001, and NCAA 2000.

Duncan's credits include work on several of Electronic Arts' series of games, including Strike, Madden and NCAA, and span almost all major gaming platforms, including the Sega Saturn, PlayStation, Nintendo 64, and the PC. Prior to EA, Duncan wrote music for Chakka Khan, Michael Jackson, and R Kelly while he was at Warner Brothers.

"GameBeat, Inc. thus far has been financed by a small private investor", Duncan told GamesSpot News. "However, we are now looking to establish a relationship with a larger investment firm for venture-capital consideration".

In addition to the Electronic Arts contracts, Duncan told GameSpot News that he's also currently composing tracks for an undisclosed game from Fox Interactive.
