We stopped by the US Army's booth at Gen Con Indy 2003 and learned that although the demo stations at the show were running the currently available 1.7 client of the America's Army first-person shooter, the upcoming v1.9 update should be released "in a matter of days." The update will feature the new combat medic missions, and subsequent updates including v1.9 and later will include such features as improved character models and facial animations (including lip syncing), as well as a new game interface.
America's Army is a first-person shooter powered by the Unreal engine that models regular army exercises and actual field operations. The game is freely downloadable and will be supported with future content additions. For more information on the game, consult our previous coverage.
