Matrix Games and developer Panther Games have today announced the development of Airborne Assault: Conquest of the Aegean. Currently scheduled for release this fall, the World War II strategy game focuses on the battles for Greece and Crete, as well as a hypothetical Malta operation.

"The genre of wargaming is lucky to have designers and developers as talented as the guys at Panther Games," said David Heath, director of operations at Matrix Games. "We are proud to be publishing Conquest of the Aegean, which expands and enhances the Airborne Assault series in ways that gamers will love while covering some great battles from an often neglected theater."

Conquest of the Aegean will allow players to play through the entire Greek campaign, the airborne-led assault on Crete, and the planned attack on Malta that was never executed as either an Allied or German commander. Areas of the game that Panther Games plans to improve upon over its predecessors include the interface, artificial intelligence, scenario- and mapmakers, map-terrain effects, and map graphics. New features planned for Conquest of the Aegean include additional weapons and units, new exit tasks, and a campaign mode where the outcome of each scenario affects the subsequent path of the campaign and the forces involved.
