Take-Two Interactive's Gathering of Developers division has announced that Age of Wonders II: The Wizard's Throne, its latest turn-based strategy game, has gone gold and will ship to stores in June. The game combines empire building, role playing, and tactical combat in a medieval fantasy setting. Players assume control of a kingdom, and they must manage diplomatic alliances, build armies, and research new magical powers to restore order in the world.

Age of Wonders II features 12 playable races, including elves, frostlings, draconians, dwarves, halflings, humans, and undead. In addition to standard units, the game includes hero units that can gain experience and power as they win battles. They also have the ability to wield powerful artifacts. In addition to following the single-player campaign, players can create their own scenarios with the game editor or play against other players in several multiplayer modes, including hot seat, play by e-mail, and simultaneous turn modes.

Age of Wonders II: The Wizard's Throne was developed by Triumph Studios, the studio that created the original Age of Wonders, and it will be available in stores next month for an approximate retail price of $29.99. For more information, take a look at our extensive coverage of the game.
