Age of Empires 2 HD gets new expansion pack

Age of Empires 2 HD: The Forgotten on sale now for $9.99.

Age of Empires II HD, Hidden Path Entertainment's update of the 1999 RTS, has received an expansion pack.

Age of Empires II HD: The Forgotten is now on sale for $9.99 and includes five new civilizations--the Italians, Indians, Slavs, Magyars, and Incas--and four new campaigns, called Alaric, Sforza, Bari, and Dracula.

Two new game modes, Treaty and Capture the Relic, have also been added, as has a spectator mode, and a new "LudaKRIS" map size.

Players can also stream directly to Twitch.tv through the expansion.

Alongside The Forgotten, Age of Empires II HD has been updated to include support for the Steam Workshop and Steam Trading Cards.

Age of Empires 2 HD launched exclusively in April 2013. The expansion and base game are being sold together as a bundle for $29.99.

This expansion is basically an update of a free mod called Forgotten Empires -  Microsoft hired to modders the make an official expansion.

If you aren't sure if this is worth the money try the mod first.

What about developing AoE4? Its time they make a serious resource gathering RTS.

The trick that nobody mentions is that the HD version addresses a direct draw problem that would most often crash the game. However It is true that you can get this solution online over a couple of hours looking into the problem, its a headache that would just put you off from playing one of the Best games of all time. Even if it has no special feature abilities or gadgets like Warcraft or any other RTS its simplicity can make you play a game for 3 hours with friends.

What we are actually paying for 30 bucks is a patch, higher resolution and a mod that was so good MS took their time to pay these ppl for their time and resource. Lets not forget the streaming and multiplayer features which took effort to even achieve. The outlet has its bugs like anything but you are paying 30 bucks for ease nothing more, if you feel that you can be bothered to get an older copy and sort it out across a day or two its your 30 bucks saved.

AoE2 was my first real game and I will always remember it with joy no matter how many ppl shout that its outdated or not pretty or not innovative or something else they just feel like it should be in their head. AoE2 is a fact and all the moaning or crying won't change it.

Worst remake of all times.

or if you have the original AOE2 you could just download the forgotten empires mod for free and play it with the superior version of AOE2.

"Forgotten" is how I would describe Microsoft's handling of the once great franchise. And Dracula?? Really??

What the hell? Is Microsoft ripping off their modding community? There is a mod called The forgotten empires which was released not so long ago, which added the EXACT same civilisations and made the game playable on win 7. And they wanna charge people 10 bucks for it now?

$30 for a nearly 15 year old game that went "HD" and an expansion that has more than likely been created by the community already? No thanks. I thoroughly enjoyed the game, when I picked it up for $5 with the original expansion, at Walmart around 10 years ago.

@The-Lord Oh well, we can all thanks M$ for shutting down the profitable Ensemble Studio!!  The development of AoE4 and Age of Mythology is put a perpetual halt!

@arqe

It's not a remake, they just added support for higher resolutions - which could have been added in a very small patch update to the original game. Oh, and it was probably already available via mods too.

The fact that people bought this (despite owning a copy of the original game) just shows how easily companies can screw people over. And how gullible some people can be.

Apparently this expansion is just a free mod that has now been packaged and sold.

As this expansion features the Magyars and Slavs I imagine 'Dracula' means Vlad III Duke of Walachia, sometimes called Dracula which roughly translates to 'Son of Dragon' (his father, Vlad II, was called Dracul 'Dragon' as he was a member of The Order of The Dragon)

@Vambran AOEO is dying because of Games for Windows Live being taken offline. Im sad to see it go as well but at least there is a new petition to get a AoM HD Remake made.
