After Hours delivers games

GameSpot treats Bay Area to its own private E3 as invite-only event draws gamers, online and on-site.

by

What if they gave a party and everyone showed up? That's how it felt Saturday night in San Francisco when GameSpot After Hours opened its doors at Pier 27 on that city's Embarcadero.

Close to 2,000 gamers checked out 21 premier titles at over 100 kiosks, enjoyed live and DJ-spun tunes and the rich showmanship of the GameSpot Live crew, and even indulged in beer and pizza as the first-ever event delivered on its promise of bringing the best in games and competition to the GameSpot community--in our own backyard as well as around the world.

Attendees compared the experience to E3, "only you could actually play the games." Among the crowd's favorites were Battlefield 2142, Call of Duty 3, BioShock, and Full Auto 2, the latter game running on PlayStation 3s at just eight, very in-demand game kiosks.

While hundreds of gamers had their fill of gamplay inside the massive space on the Bay, five cameras brought the event to an online audience of many thousands more. Check back later today for archived footage of the first ever After Hours event.

2,000 is pretty good for an event hosted by an internet site.

I hope that there is another, and that they invite people that don't only live in San Fransisco

Thnks for inviting 2K to the event. Even though we couldn't play them, the BIOSHOCK and Darkness demonstrations were awesome.

A good event. I hope GameSpot does something like this every year. Can't wait for the next one!

I really wanted to go. I mean I live about 15 minutes away from there.... But I didn't feel like going alone. My friend who I was hoping would join me was not able to make it. Otherwise I would've been there! The problem is that I don't have a lot of diehard video game fan friends. I'm the only video game freak of the bunch. And this sort of sucks! Anyways, I hope Gamestop hosts something similar again. Perhaps I can find people in here who would be interested in tagging along.... I'm glad the party was a success, props to Gamestop!

I thought this was a great thing Gamespot did. I was a rsvp but at the last minute looking at my son who wanted to go so bad I just could not leave him at home missing out all the action so I had him put on a mustache and got him through the doors, (just kidding) but it did cross my mind. I did the next best thing and had a guy come out and put internet cable in my house and we watched the whole thing together live. The 5 camera angles were outstanding we were checking out all the action flipping back and forth to different angles. And we saw my name get called which was disappointing because I was not there but I watched it all so it's like I did not miss anything except the feel of the PS3 in my hands. I think this was a super great event and loved watching every minute of it, may Gamespot live on forever they are the bomb. Thanks Gamespot, PS: I just noticed my virtually there icon,, right on thanks again

I knew about it, but I don't live in San Francisco and was too busy to watch it online.

This would be cool if it could go on tour to the far reaches of the US...like Cleveland, Columbus, or Pittsburgh even. Why does all the good stuff happen in California?

I saw the entire thing live from the internets (on GS of course) and I can say that, while it was a little slow at time, After Hours was a great even and it should be turned into an annual show.

I hope Gamespot has an annual After Hours event. We need something to take the sting out of the farce E3 sounds like it is shaping up to be.

Looks like GameSpot is making enough money to stay around until the advent of WWIII. Good to know! GameSpot's a good site. Oh wait...according to the top of the page, GameSpot's parent company is CNET Networks Entertainment; I'm sure they're the ones that flipped the bill for After Hours. Oh well, GameSpot is still a good site!

Have to say, played Full Auto 2, it wasn't good. RR7 was fun, but then again it was the only good PS3 game there. Hey, i see myself (well i think i see myself) in the first picture, near the door way, the guy in blue jeans and a black coat... ah, now i feel like waldo.
