After Cancellation Rumors, Pokemon Go Hits Apple Watch Today

Over the weekend, a report claimed Pokemon Go's Apple Watch version was canceled. Developer Niantic quickly responded to say it wasn't. And now, just days later, the game has launched for the smartwatch.

The Pokemon Go app for Apple Watch displays several pieces of information, including how far you need to walk to hatch eggs and how much more XP you need to level up. It also shows nearby Pokemon, but you need to take out your phone to catch them.

In terms of what you can do on the Apple Watch itself, it allows you to collect items from PokeStops, see your earned medals, and watch your eggs hatch. Additionally, the app keeps track of your distance walked and calories burned.

Pokemon Go for Apple Watch was announced during the iPhone 7 reveal in September. Apple and Niantic said the game would launch by the end of 2016--and it just made it.

In other news about Pokemon Go, Niantic has announced some massive statistics for the game, including the fact that people have collectively walked the equivalent of 200,000 trips around the Earth in search of Pokemon. Additionally, players have caught 88 billion Pokemon, which comes out to about 533 million every day.

Additionally, an update was released this week that fixed some bugs, including one that made the game issue vibration notifications at the wrong time.
