Activision pledges 'unique' Call of Duty games for mobile

Future Call of Duty games for mobile devices and tablets will be "unique" experiences, Activision Blizzard senior director of global digital and mobile sales Jon Estanislao has promised.

Speaking at the DMW Games conference in Los Angeles recently, as reported by Shacknews, Estanislao remarked that past games like Call of Duty: Zombies were "okay." Going forward, he said Activision will avoid ports and focus on original games.

"Going forward for us, how do we really take that Call of Duty experience, what is the essence of it? These kinds of grandiose, immerse [sic] experiences--how do we move that to mobile or tablet? From a development perspective, we're investing a lot more in understanding how to marry that together with how customers expect to play on those devices," Estanislao said.

He further explained that upcoming Call of Duty games for mobile will "evolve" the way in which players interact with the brand and will take advantage of the uniqueness of a given device.

Concerning why Activision may have been slower to bring its popular Call of Duty series to mobile, Estanislao said this was a result of the company's size hurting its ability to quickly adapt.

"Sometimes it takes a bit longer for large companies like ourselves because our DNA isn't necessarily that flexible," Estanislao said. "But I think we're at that stage, we have dedicated internal studios to work on it, and folks from outside the industry that we're bringing in."

Activision's office in Leeds, England is believed to be responsible for all Call of Duty mobile games moving forward.
