Activision has officially announced that X-Men: Legends is in development for the GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox. In the game, players can assemble a team of X-Men from more than 15 different selectable characters, including Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Gambit, Beast, Colossus, and Nightcrawler. Each character's abilities will factor directly into how players will progress through individual levels, and some characters can even perform multiple-character moves such as Wolverine and Colossus' fastball special. These characters will also gain experience points that can be used to upgrade various skills. A four-player cooperative mode is also planned for the game.

"X-Men: Legends is the first game to capture the complete essence of the X-Men by allowing players to control multiple characters that fight together as a team," states Larry Goldberg, executive vice president at Activision Worldwide Studios. "The game will blend the best parts of the movies and comic books in a fantastic new adventure that allows you to develop your specialized powers as you succeed through your missions."

X-Men: Legends is scheduled for release in 2004.
