ACIII for PS3 to get 60 minutes of exclusive content?

UK Amazon box art reveals PS3 version of upcoming Ubisoft sequel will seemingly include "60 minutes of exclusive gameplay."

by

It appears that the PlayStation 3 version of Ubisoft's upcoming Assassin's Creed III will be released with an hour of exclusive gameplay.

A UK Amazon listing for the game reveals the PS3 box art, which is shown to display a "PS3 Exclusive Addition" sticker boasting "60 minutes of exclusive gameplay."

Ubisoft reportedly told Joystiq that this exclusive gameplay is the same content that was announced during Sony's Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference this year (when it was revealed an Assassin's Creed III PS3 bundle would be launching on October 30 with a console, game, and DLC).

Ubisoft and Sony teamed up for similar exclusives with the release of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood in 2010, including a PS3-exclusive beta-testing phase and a batch of postrelease DLC.

According to reports last month, it appears that Ubisoft is planning episodic add-on content for Assassin's Creed III and may be offering a Season Pass for the game.

Set during the American Revolution, Assassin's Creed III features a new protagonist named Connor who will involve himself in the ongoing struggle between the Templars and the Assassins. The game is being built by Ubisoft Montreal and six collaborating studios on a new engine called Ubisoft-AnvilNext.

Assassin's Creed III will enjoy Ubisoft's biggest marketing campaign in company history and is slated to arrive on October 30.

I don't really care either way. Who is to say the 60 minutes worth of content is that great? Sure I'll get it, but what if it's not that great? I mean we're only talking about 60 minutes here. It would have to be able to cure cancer to be one of the few DLCs worth buying that only has 60 minutes worth of content.

Well "Episodic Content".....mmmm....no way in hell. Waiting for the GOTY edition for sure.

That said...first PC version is delayed...than it receives less content (along with the other consoles)...why all this lack of interest on PC gamers?

I'm not even a 100% PC gamer but it just does not sound right...

Episodic stuff is annoying! will wait for GOTY edition for this one.

Still debating whether or not i should get this game. Episodic content pisses me off.

Bah. I prefer my Ps3 to my 360 and I'm not really into Assassin's Creed, and this STILL annoys me. Platform-specific content sucks, period.

The only possible excuse for this would be if it's to do with the extra capacity of a BRD, but in that case the extra content could be on a second disc or supplied as free DLC. Punishing people for playing it on the 'wrong' system is just manifestly unfair.

Word.  For all the people who complain about this you also have to understand that with the Blu Ray disc developers can put more content on the game.  It's really as simple as that.

Wow, their greed is getting worse by the day. The next EA, ruining games by overcharging, exclusive gameplay etc all while making millions at the same time. UBISOFT will not have my money! Do not let them steal yours(until it's on sale, ofcourse)

This Microsoft vs. Sony debate is just as ugly as the Republicans vs. the Democrats. Ha!

I gotta PS3,  so it's pretty cool. but as for the 360 users, really, who cares? It's 60 minutes, and if they didn't include it in the 360 version, it's obviously not important.

Fine by me.  After that browser plug-in fiasco I'm too scared to buy anything from Ubisoft anyway.

M$ started this trend with Xbox and 360, and Sony was competing by making more attempts at crafting 1st party titles with their money. Both companies have only so much money budgeted towards their game divisions. Sony is just matching fire against fire once again...which sux because ultimately this road leads to less actual games being developed for gamers to play, and more timed content/DLC. Too bad.

For evidence, check out how much timed exclusive DLC/games release on the 360 platform and compare directly to the amount of 1st party games that are generated by that same division.

Perhaps the goal is one day for Sony to close down/sell off/downsize their 1st party studios and instead buy more and more timed exclusives/extra content from 3rd party game companies as M$ has done this generation (360 had more 1st party power early this gen rather than now and seem to be coasting on cruise control until the 720 releases). I wish gamers would speak up against these tactics on both sides, but it seems like people want this and I can't blame the companies for offering it.

It's a lot cheaper buying a little 60 minute extra content than developing, marketing, and releasing a full retail game.

I was getting this game on PS3 anyway so this news doesn't hurt me, but it's still really stupid. I hate it when publishers slice and dice their games like this. Ubisoft is particularly bad. Look at all the preorder incentives - you have to buy the game from like 5 different places to get the entire product. Just make a game and releaes it. All of it. Is that so freakin hard? If you want to be exclusive to one console then that's your prerogative, as I'm sure it makes development easier, but if you're going multi-plat then you owe it to owners of each system to deliver a complete game to everyone.

well i'm glad Sony is doing at least something to compete against the extra content Microsoft usually gets reserved for xbox.

Lets see, 60 minutes of flying around some sort of idiotic hang glider? Or is it 60 minutes of a lame tower defense mini-game? What idiotic thing is Ubisoft "adding" to a game now.  I really hate how Ubisoft handles the AC franchise and DLC in general.

sladakrobot

I am ok with that if the PS3 game costs 60 bucks and the X360 50 bucks.

X360 has less content so it should cost less...oh...back in real world...forget what i said. ;)

JimmeyBurrows
JimmeyBurrows

This is getting stupid... If it's multiplat, you should be getting the full game on both, every bit of "additional content" is taking away from time that could have been spent on actual game content, so removing it from one console is plain stupid.

toddx77
toddx77

This is one of the major things wrong with this gen of games.  Some 360 games get content early, ps3 games get exclusive content, why can't publishers just be glad someone bought their game like before?  We never had to deal with this crap last gen.  We bought a complete game and the publishers were happy.  Now we are buying incomplete games that are glitchy and have content cut out for DLC or content that is exclusive.  Seriously when gaming crashes the big wigs in charge of making these stupid decisions are going to have no sympathy from me when they are job less.  They brought it on themselves.

I am SO SICK AND TIRED of not being able to get the "Full" fucking game anymore.

It seems every game these days you can never get "everything" for it anymore, unless you PIRATE it.

The legit customers is always getting locked out of content, from pre order exclusives that no sane person can get all of or console exclusive crap.

Is it too much to ask to be able to LEGALLY buy the FULL GAME in this day and age?

Don't you all want to know what this extra content is before you get all worked up about it?  Its entirely possible that the 60 minutes is just comprised of collecting some random things in the game.  If the extra content is DLC, then it will come to the 360 eventually.  If it is ties to the PS Vita game, then that doesnt bother me because I dont own or care to own a Vita.  I'll still buy it on 360 regardless, because I like the AC multiplayer, and that's the console I go online with.  Good for Sony for finally making a serious effort to get on the exclusivity in multi-platform games bandwagon, though.  Thee previous efforts (like RDR and LA Noire) have been laughable compared to what Microsoft is doing.

yes PS3 is the king and 360 is the queen and wii is the prince XDDDD

george999819

This is why I never buy the PS3 version of multiplatform games. Sony always secures these tiny bits of exclusive content, while Microsoft secures entire expansion packs with dozens of hours of gameplay. GTA IV, Fallout, The Elder Scrolls... now that's the kind of content I'm talking about. Then you have Sony's idea of content: two extra gang hideouts in RDR! 1 extra case in L.A. Noire! 60 mins of extra content in AC3! LOL! Sony better step it up if they want the PS3 version of multiplatform games to sell more than the 360 versions.

Maybe this content was unable to fit on the Xbox's inferior disc format or maybe it's tied to AC Liberation. I don't think this has so much to do with Xbox vs. PS3, but more with there's lot more space on a  Blu-Ray. They figure let;s put extra stuff on the disc to entice more PS3 owners to buy the game.

This season pass thing has got to go... I'll buy the occasional DLC, but I'm not comfortable dropping $40-60 bucks on a pass for something not even started yet.

Exclusive content should end. Only hurt the chances of future releases of sells of the developer.

Foolish Microsoft started this, only take the fun out of gaming.

@majere613 maybe xbox 360 shouldnt have released as early as they did and they could of put blu ray in,  like ps3 did they waited and didnt release it straight away and look what happens more content, (if thats the case but if not then maybe Alex Hutichinson and all the designers have a ps3 so they thought, fuck it lol )

@NeverMore0 I'm betting on it's content tied to the Vita game so not Ubisoft's fault that PS3 is superior.

Serpentes420
Serpentes420

@WheelerJared However, with Ubisoft's history of DLC from the assassin's creed franchise, I am not convinced it is extra content so much as content that was snipped from the game to begin with.

@toddx77 Unfortunately it's usually the coders, designers and artists who never had control over these decisions in the first place that are out of work. Even if the entire industry tanks to the point of every exec losing their positions (which is highly unlikely), they'll just transfer over to other sectors and cut themselves a massive bonus with the deal. How do you think we got here in the first place? The industry became less niche and increasingly profitable, and investors and corporate administrators took over the reigns.

Look at the head of EA, John Riccitiello. He got a business degree, and then worked for Clorox, Pepsi and Haagen Das before shifting over to games because it was a 'growing market'. He's not a gamer. He's just trying to squeeze every penny he can out of his position to make Q3 earnings look shiny before he moves onto Cadbury or Reebok with another notch on his resume. Why do you think he doesn't give a sh^t about what gamers think? He doesn't have to worry about long term consumer confidence because in 5 or 10 years, he won't even work in the industry.

@Stiler Totally agree. It's always the legitimate customers who go out and buy the product thats gets shafted with all this anti-piracy nonsense.

@Stiler I was gonna say "Good thing I got a PS3" but I think you are waaay on point with this one... I hate being nickled and dimed and nowadays games are never worth the cost cause they hold back a lot and Im getting sick of it too... well said playa

Serpentes420
Serpentes420

@Ghetto_ninja Sony most likely gave Ubisoft cash or some other considerations to do so. I'm certain if Microsoft approached Ubisoft with a similar offer they could have found space for something liek this even on their "inferior disc format"

@Serpentes420 Well look at Revelations there was no way they had extra space to put on the full game of the first Assassin's Creed on their inferior disc format. You say inferior like it's not fact but I don't see any HD-DVD's being released anymore.

JimmeyBurrows
JimmeyBurrows

@Ghetto_ninja It's on both consoles so that everyone gets to enjoy them, no matter which console they bought. Multiplat games should be exempt from the fanboy wars.

rat5112

 @Ghetto_ninja

Xbox doesn't use HD-DVD.  The HD-DVD player was just a periphial that was discontinued when the format folded.  Xbox discs are just  DVDs.

Serpentes420
Serpentes420

@Ghetto_ninja Its not that I don't believe it's inferior, believe me now that I have a PS3 and a 360, if a game is going to be multiple discs on 360 i'll get it on the PS3.  I just don't believe disc space has anything to do with PS3 having 60 more minutes of AC3.  I'm saying if Microsoft came up with some better incentive for Ubisoft XBOX360 would have gotten this content or some sort of content whether it required a 2nd disc or came as a code for download.

JimmeyBurrows
JimmeyBurrows

@Ghetto_ninja To make any decent use of the extra space available, they'd need to have the game exclusive to the console... This passing of rights to parts of games only hurts the end product and the user.

Not to mention, it's most likely they'll have it as a code you type in to download the extra content.

As a fanboy, you're defending stupid business practices rather than good gaming.

Ghetto_ninja
Ghetto_ninja

@JimmeyBurrows Not really. Especially when the Blu-Ray disc is capable of storing extra content that can win over potential buyers. Like full games of previous games in the series.
