Nidhogg, the non-traditional fighting game where players fight for a chance to get eaten by a mythological Norse serpent, will ship on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita this week.

Sony wrote on its official blog that Nidhogg's release date is Tuesday October 14 in the US. An official ship date for Europe has not been set, though by convention it could arrive on Wednesday October 15, when Sony releases its digital games across Europe.

Originally released on PC in January, Nidhogg developer Messhof announced a few months later that the sword-fencing game would be ported over to PS4 and Vita, complete with cross-buy functionality (meaning only one purchase is necessary for both versions).

GameSpot's Nidhogg review praised the game, claiming it provides "a rare local multiplayer experience that is easy to pick up, highly competitive, and perfectly balanced. If you have friends nearby, this is some of the most fun you can have stabbing them through the heart."
