The Heavenly Sword movie--which is skipping a theatrical release and coming straight to DVD and Blu-ray--will be released on September 2, it was announced today. The film is based on Ninja Theory's 2007 PlayStation 3 game and was produced by Blockade Entertainment in association with PlayStation Worldwide Studios and Ratchet & Clank movie studio Rainmaker Entertainment.

Heavenly Sword features the voice work of Anna Torv, who voiced main character Nariko in the original game and would appear later on Fringe. The Heavenly Sword movie also stars Alfred Molina (Spider-Man 2, The Man Who Knew Too Little) as King Bohan and Thomas Jane (The Punisher, The Mist) as Loki. In the 2007 PS3 game, Lord of the Rings actor Andy Serkis played King Bohan.

The Heavenly Sword DVD and Blu-ray also features bonus footage, including behind-the-scenes interviews with the cast and filmmakers. You will also be able to buy the movie from the PlayStation Network when it's released. For more on Heavenly Sword, check out GameSpot's review.
