A beautifully hand-drawn indie game, The Banner Saga

Once we saw this beautiful trailer, we knew you would want to check out this hand-drawn story-driven indie game, The Banner Saga. Check it out!

As we were surfing the Web this week, The Banner Saga popped up on our radar. What stood out first were the stunning old-school hand-drawn visuals of this Viking-era world. The game promises a story-driven, turn-based strategy game, with an emphasis on visuals, which the developers, Stoic, seem to be on track to delivering. The project is being funded through Kickstarter and has already received over $300,000 dollars in funding. Check out the trailer below, and let us know what you think of The Banner Saga in the comments area.

It'll probably be like HoMM or MMH but different graphic, looks nice

Really liking the artstyle, and wish more games would try this kind of thing rather than chasing photo-realism. Anyway...vikings, tactics, RPG elements...yeah, I've got my eye on this one. Hope it turns out great.

When I first saw this trailer I thought it looked a bit like Dragon's Lair.

Neat. With more Kickstarter projects receiving headlines, I hope we soon hear success stories of games that actually deliver. There is a lot of excitement and feelings of empowerment right now, but ultimately the only way for Kickstarter to gain traction is good results.

Huh, pretty cool. So it's a grid turn-based like King's Bounty type?

Reminds me of old-school Final Fantasy games in terms of atmosphere. Very Interesting.

Big fan of Eyvind Earle, so a RPG game inspired with his art is a no brainer. It'll be nice playing a mature game; not the sexual/violent type, but where you need to focus on your actions; those are rare. Glad to help fund it!

Nice visuals and good to see more games going back to the 2d style, but really not my kind of game or theme.

The Good : -Nice animation -A new RPG/Strategy game to play. The Bad: - May I vote against the Music at the end?

If games like Shogun 2, C&C3, SC2, SW: Empire At War, or BFME put you to sleep, then you're doing something wrong. I'm undecided on this, will wait for more info.

To all the peeps complaining about rts games... this, as stated in the article, is turn based strategy. I thought it looked quite interesting actually...

@jaifrecap If you mean that you hate rts games I'm totally agree with you, would be a waste of artworks to me too. :-\

Don't tell me that at 0:41 is the gameplay? D: I hate those kind of games. It would be a real shame cuz I love the look of the game. Very nice animation.
