80s Guitar Hero golden, setlist finalized

Original recordings from Anthrax, X, Dead Kennedys, Winger, and more round out list of 30 new songs in Activision's upcoming PS2-exclusive game.

Like a syndicated weekly dance program from the decade it touts so highly, Activision's Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s is Solid Gold. Actually, the publisher today just announced that the game has "gone gold," saying development on the PlayStation 2 exclusive has finished and it should be on shelves July 24.

The publisher also released the last batch of the game's 30 songs, and as expected, Activision has secured the rights to use the original recordings of some popular songs by the original artists. The game's full setlist is reproduced below.

Guitar Hero Encore Rocks the 80s is rated T for Teen and will be the last game in the series from original developers Harmonix. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater developer Neversoft is taking over the franchise beginning with Guitar Hero III, while Harmonix is preparing rival rhythm game Rock Band. Both titles are set for release later this year for multiple platforms.

Newly announced tracks:

It's a killer lineup and game, but not worth $50. Definately worth $30 without a doubt and $40 for more hardcore fans. But hey, I still payed $50.

Maiden, Priest and Scorpions are what I would pay $60 cdn for. Maybe i'll download them for the 360 when/if they become available. :)

Where's the xbox 360 version! I want some more songs for my Xbox. Mabye if they released it as an expansion pack to Guitar Hero 2? They had an expansion pack released fo Oblivion, so why not for Guitar Hero.

A great list, but not enough to revive my PS2 Too many covers. But so many great songs. I'll invest in NASCAR 08 for Xbox 360 instead.

Caught in a Mosh is one of the best Thrash songs ever. Some of these are really poppy rock songs, though, so I'm not sure if I really wanna get it or not. I expected more Metal. Wrathchild is a good song, but I was hoping for something like "2 Minutes to Midnight", or "The Trooper", (The Trooper was in the 360 GH2, but I sensed that it could make an encore since it wasn't released for the PS2), or one of Maiden's more famous songs. Most of you complaining have probably never heard of most of these bands, so just shut up. It's too bad that Thrash bands like Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer, (and even testament) were not included. It's also a shame that poppy bands like The Police, Scandal, and Flock of Seagulls are included. But bands like Slayer often take on very sensitive topics. Slayer, with the songs of murder, Satan, etc. (I have no problem with their music, but you can't put stuff like that into a Teen rated game.) As for Metallica, well not much of their stuff has been heard outside of themselves lately, probably because of the Napster controversy.

I thought there would be GOOD 80's songs...

For those that really don't care about the tracklist and like to rock anyway, this will be a good way to do it. I agree that the game must come out in all the new consoles by now, but you know what they're gonna do, download it for a higher price!!!!, So if you have your PS2, get it... it'll be cheaper than just downloading 3-packs. Cheers!!

They should release this on all the platforms that Guitar Hero III is coming out on.

These are some amazing songs, but with Guitar Hero 3 AND Rock Band coming out (plus seeing my PS2 has been shoved aside for 8 months), I'm gonna have to pass. If some songs were master tracks (like the songs by Ratt, Poison, .38 Special, Krokuz, and Vapors), I'd get this for sure. But with Metallica on Rock Band, and GNR's Slash on GH3, I'm passing.

@ Glass_flame: Metallicas first album was in 1983 "Kill 'em All" then in '86 was "Master of puppets" then in '88 was "...And Justice for all" EDIT: Also Ride the Lightning was in 1984

Sorry to bust your bubble there man but White Lion did not make that song famous it was famous because of the original band who did it. I believe Golden Earrings version is better and I am a huge White Lion fan Vito Bratta was an absolute god on the guitar. Ohh i am sorry you probably don't know who that is, he is the guitarist for White Lion, and he deserves to have something on guitar hero that he wrote on his own cause he really is a true guitar hero.

I agree there are some classics missing but there are a lot of classics that are in there. For exxample, Nothing But a Good Time, I ran, Ballroom Blitz, Seventeen...the list goes on. And you gotta love Limozeen. In response to EvilTaylor: AC/DC is awesome but probably super-expensive and Zeppelin is 70s not 80s. In response to Tanislocke, it says "as made famous by" on a lot of these. For example: Who wrote You Really Got Me? The Kinks. Who made it really famous? Van Halen. And to EVERYONE ranting about Metallica: their first album was released in 1991. NINETEEN NINETY ONE. NOT EIGHTIES.

Komissar33188
Komissar33188

Good bands but missing some of the classings, with AC/DC, Blue Oyster Cult, Metallica and G&R the most notably missing entries. I'm glad I'm not the only one who caught the Golden Earring misnomer, but I'm not glad that Harmonix didn't catch it. I'm mildly perplexed (but very enthused) at the Vapors, I'm just going to have hilarious South Park quoting sprees with Dio, and WHOOO Billy Squier (but why not The Stroke?). And what has me REALLY peeved is that NOT ONE of the Guitar Heroes has Zeppelin-I mean... it's not 80s, but seriously it merited inclusion at some point.

Tanislocke

Well this list has a few good songs but some could be a ton better. Radar Love is not by White Lion, it was by Golden Earing, They should have put Little Fighter on there instead great guitar song. Wrath Child by Iron Maiden?? Why not Wasted Years by Iron Maiden instead? Definitely Rock You Like Hurricane instead of No One like you. I agree with all the people that said where is ACDC and Motley Crue. Hadn't seen anyone mention EVH considering 1984 was there best album ever I think it should be on there to maybe a little Hot For Teacher? I understand no Metallica as after paying for there one song it would have made the game cost 75 bucks a pop or some crap.

i think this soundtrack is pretty awesome, while i don't care for some of the songs i am going to have fun with it anyway. this is the 80's. if they attempted to put metallica on the list they would not have any money for other songs because they would demand an exorbitant amount of money and probly make them pay out the a#! for it. i am glad metallica is not on here becuause not only would it have lessened the quality of the game, but also the quality of the entire series of games. i like metal, and i would take any crappy 80's new wave over them ANY day. this game is going to be awesome! i think with this set list they have made the game more of a party game

What?!?! No Helloween, either of the Sabbat's or even Black Sabbath's stuff with Dio... but alas, we get a bunch of glam metal and the Metal Gods and Iron Maiden, so it'll still be worth it. \m/

Grant41

Here is the question. If you travel to Wikipedia they have all the songs in the set lists and such. According to that they don't have a face melter group, and with these songs, there is no face melter group. How can you do a game about the 80's with no face melters? That is where face melting was born.

Ummm, Nirvana's first official album didn't come out until 1990, so that would kind of defeat the purpose of the game, plus Nirvana sucks for guitar playing. And Rob Zombie was with White Zombie in the 80's not solo, but more White Zombie would be awesome. Definitly needs Metallica though.

kombatmaster12
kombatmaster12

good but I think they should have had some more Nirvana, Guns 'n' roses, Melatilca, AC*DC, Ozzy, Rob Zombie, Motley Crue, and some good old fashion Megadeath. Its a pretty good list but could be better. :)

It's about time Guitar Hero showed some love to The Scorpions and Quiet Riot. But I can't help but feel that playing "We Got the Beat" is going to be awkward. By the way, has anyone seen a recent photo of Asia's Steve Howe? Seems more and more like the guitarists of yesteryear are getting their arses kicked by aging.
