Even if the DS role-playing game 7th Dragon wasn't localized in English, it did pretty well for itself when it debuted in 2009 in Japan. Sega recently announced the sequel called 7th Dragon 2020 in the latest issue of Famitsu magazine (via Andriasang). The RPG will be produced by Reiko Kodama, who worked on Skies of Arcadia and the Phantasy Star series. Kazuya Niinou will serve as the director while Yuzo Koshiro is the music composer.

The sequel is set in the near future where seven dragons have come down from space and claimed Tokyo as their own. Gamers have to form their own party with character classes like the samurai, destroyer, and hacker. This party will be part of the Murakumo special forces, who are given the task to wipe out the dragons in the devastated landscape of the city. The game's art style is now more serious when compared to the past game's fantasy look.

7th Dragon 2020 is slated for a release this fall in Japan.
