505 Games announces Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 MMA title

505 Games announces Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 mixed martial arts title, debuting at next week's industry show.

Electronic Arts is poised to enter the ring with EA Sports MMA this year, and THQ already has an established multi-million-unit-selling UFC Undisputed franchise. But soon, mixed martial arts fans will have another option to choose from in the war for living room dominance.

Is there room for three in the ring?

505 Games announced today that it is working with Los Angeles-based game studio Kung Fu Factory on a fighting game called MMA Supremacy for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The publisher's statement today offered few details on the project but did confirm it for appearing at the Electronic Entertainment Expo next week.

Kung Fu Factory is an independent development house made up of talent behind fighting games Ultimate Fighting Championship for Dreamcast, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, UFC 2009 Undisputed, and others.

505 isn't the only publisher embroiled in the fighting game genre, though. THQ has the rights to UFC's trademarks through 2011 and debuted UFC Undisputed 2010 last month. Additionally, Electronic Arts will feature Strikeforce, a mixed martial artist league, in its upcoming EA Sports MMA, set to release sometime in 2010.

Sorry not buying this. This is what i don't like about gaming industry. Now that MMA is hot and a fast growing sports, every gaming industry wants to jump into the wagon and make rip offs of UFC titles.....You guys did the same crap with diablo 2 :(

I imagine they'll end up signing a retired fighter or two to appear on the box and in their game. Someone who needs the cash like Ken Shamrock. It'll likely not be a realistic style game. Probably looking at being able to play with the rules a lot, and being more violent and over the top without being arcadey or rediculous. Not a fan of Undisputed's gameplay at all, so looking forward to what others can come up with.

Actually competition makes great games becuase the more competition the harder they try to make better games, Successful games is all about competition

Seriously look at metro 2033. Fallout was epic. So they decide to make Metro 2033. It was alright, but since it relied on trying to beat another game out of its niche, it failed hard and will never be a good series. Now if they would have went in just trying to make a good game, maybe Bethesda would be trying to make a 2033 killer.

Competition like this does not make good games. This is a prime example of one company thinking outside the box(THQ) and the usual suspects coming in and trying to profit with some crappy off shoot(Mainly EA.) EA does this all the time, and it is getting old. It does not add to the industry. It creates a follower/leader industry where good companies like Bethesda, Bungie, Paradox, ect... make a decent game and then the rest of the Dev's follow them with a crappy ".... Killer". It is getting really old and it has degraded gaming down to "Hmm should I play Call of Duty or should I play Halo, or ..... should I play Gears of War." It is all mass appeal.

From the couple screenshots, it looks more like a scene out of Kickboxer than a display of the sport of MMA. We'll see. Competition is good, regardless.

Yeah I agree with Cwag..... we only care about NFL football, but with MMA it's not nearly as important to have the major brand. This game looks promising, if it's anything like Backbreaker, it will be fun!

505 games vs EA vs THQ. A triple threat match XD. The winner will be... THQ for sure.

Competition is what makes games better. Too bad American football lost that forever ago with the NFL licensing. :(

Who the hello is 505 games, I've never heard of them and all of a sudden they are like everywhere. Backbreaker and now this.... I'm all for independent developers but seriously I've never heard of these guys until a few weeks ago, looking at their recent history in the related companies link though doesn't inspire confidence.

I will pray that this game is far superior than that of the competition... that way I can laugh.

505 games for PS3 and Xbox 360, wow that's a lot of games. Wait a minutes it's 505 Games, the developer. For a moment there I thought both consoles will get 505 games announce for 2010, that would be holy impossible. Yeah hope to know more about this MMA Supremacy title.

UFC for the Dreamcast was made by Anchor and UFC 2009 was made by Yuke's, both are Japanese companies. So unless Kung Fu Factory hired a bunch of Japanese developers. I don't know how that's possible. I'm guessing Kung Fu Factory hired people from THQ who "produced" those games. Usually those producers aren't hands on with the developement since their in the US and developement is happening in Japan.

@andrew_dueck Hopefully RPGs. And I'm not talking the MMO variety either. Nor am I talking multiplayer. Or action-rpgs. I want more old school RPGs like Dragon Age or The Witcher.

Oh man, here we go... FPS, music games, and now MMA. I wonder what the next "let's only make these" genre will be?

i love ufc, we have been watching them since the gracies started it in 1 to prove to the worl that brazillian ju jitsu was superior and that size and muscle mattered less than technique. you know what? all the ufc games bore the crap out of me. this will be a third i will miss. mma has not been accuratley translated to game form and i dont think it can ever be.

UFC for the Dreamcast was great, so at least these guys have the chops to make the game. I still haven't really played UFC 2009 much, so I'm not rushing out to get UFC 2010, Strikeforce or any other MMA game at the moment.

As long as its good, I'll support and buy the game. Even if they use fictional fighters, that presents a great opportunity to make a MMA with a cool Story/Career mode.
