$50 Forza 5 Car Pass detailed

Microsoft details downloadable content pass for upcoming racing game; will include access to four car packs featuring dozens of vehicles.

by

Microsoft today provided more details on the Forza Motorsport 5 Car Pass, the digital offering announced last week for Turn 10's Xbox One title that includes access to dozens of vehicles. Chief among the new details is information about pricing, with Microsoft revealing the pass will sell for $50 and feature multiple car packs.

Each Car Pack will include ten cars, and the first will arrive alongside Forza 5 at launch on November 22. Subsequent packs will be available the first week of every month, starting in January 2014 and running through March 2014.

The first expansion, the LaFerrari Car Pack, introduces ten vehicles, including the 950 horsepower LaFerrari that has yet to be released in the real world. The other nine cars will be announced on November 18, Microsoft said.

Individual cars will be available for purchase separately, but Microsoft said buying the $50 pass will allow players to save 18 percent compared to purchasing individually. For the first time in the history of the franchise, every vehicle in Forza 5 will be available in Forzavista mode. This will allow users to explore the inside and outside of every car, Microsoft said.

Forza 5 will run in 1080p at 60 frames-per-second, Microsoft confirmed earlier this year. Last year's Forza Horizon also had a $50 DLC pass.

I simply cannot spend 50 bucks to get a few car packs. Spending 50 bucks should get you EVERY car pack, present and future release. What a joke these game developers are becoming. Thanks for being so damn greedy.

Yet somehow GT6 still manages to give 1200+ cars with no "car pass"...hmmmm...

Car packs... there's car packs now? and for 50$? 50$ for some car skins? I don't want to live in this planet anymore.

$60 for Forza 5? No.

$50 for this extortion DLC? Awww Hell No!

$500 for a new PGR game? Where do I send the check?!?! :-)

RIP Bizarre Creations - Yes, I know a lot of them work for Turn 10 now but they obviously have no input on gameplay design.

I really hope Sony won't pull something similar with Gran Turismo 6. Or any future incarnation.

So they're planning this before the game is even released? That's dirty...

So many passes. I'll just enjoy the game itself.

Too bad. I know this game is going to be excellent. But with that kind of policys, DLC, and you have to connect online to keep playing the single player experience, And also releasing incomplete games at launch should be illegal. Im glad i dont preorder xbox one and Forza 5. And also im going to check ps4 closely so sony dont do the same. And money is not my problem i have 4 xbox 360 consoles and i always do some Lan parties in my house to do some local multiplayer. And i have 3 ps3. But i dont want to buy this because its a matter of principle. Buying DLC is not helping the industry. Sad Day.

If $60 for a new game is a "giant F-U" to gamers, then $110 is a hate crime.*

*Note: I am not trying to belittle hate crimes.

$50 dlc for a game that can't be played unless you download 50% of the game. It's bad enough that the game is shipping unfinished, that alone should be illegal, but $50 for a bunch of cars that should have been in the game to begin with is extortion.

BamaGoatt

Congrats a 1080p game check that off the xbone bucket list. Really hope Sony sees the backlash and gives us gran turismo without a $50 car pass I can see $20 or $25  for a racing game pass but $50 is outrageous.

YD_11
YD_11

Yeah, i don't think i'll partake in the $50 car pack. If there is a car i really want, i'll consider paying for it alone but not planning on dropping that kind of change post $60 game purchase.

Sold, I spent many, many hours on forza 3/4 and im sure to be doing the same with 5 so this is a must for me. Please for the love of all that is car racing just let me take that big stupid wing off the back of the countach this time around.

People must really love this game to let M$ screw them this bad. I don't think I can stomach paying that much any game, especially one being sold piece by piece.

On pc, $50 buys you the ENTIRE game.  :P

I love Forza but this is just ridiculous.  So for $10 off of the full game you get 60 more cars?  I'll pass and just stick with the LE game.

PC Gaming is enjoying an absolute gaming renaissance. It has been a stellar year more than any before. Everyone assumed this would be the year of next gen consoles stealing the show, but it's not really it just seems like more of the same old stuff with DLC and Gold and Plus Memberships nothing is changing it's just more of the same. That's why I love the freedom of gaming on a PC games on it come out later but their cheaper and you get more. These new consoles and the way their handling them is very unimpressive. Project Cars and Assetto Corsa are like grassroots projects with incredible graphics and mods the ability to not only download other peoples creations FOR FREE but the ability to create your own cars and tracks by giving you creation tools for free with the games. This just seems like a weak and pathetic way to cash in on peoples excitement over these new consoles and people will buy into it to because their hungry for something new after 7 to 8 years with last gen consoles.

All correct but the always online. You do not need to connect online to keep playing the single player.

So if you can't afford something you steal it? That doesn't say anything about Turn 10 or Forza, but it does prove that you are a thief.

I know this is a foreign concept to the budding socialists that seem to be everywhere these days, but NO ONE OWES YOU ANYTHING!

If someone creates a product they are free to offer it for sale at whatever price they decide and you are free to not purchase it if you think the price is too high. Simple. No ridiculous whining necessary.

snaketus

@RenegadeGR This is your future same goes with that Killer Instinct game. The bad thing is that millions of people are going to buy this game and it's stupidly priced DLC. If this is the future I think I'll find a new hobby/lifestyle and just play older games, there are plenty, full games for decent prices without extra costs.

Lhomity

@BamaGoatt GT6 won't come to PS4 any time soon, so PS4 will have to make do with Drive Club, which has a free PS Plus Edition (full game minus a few cars and tracks), but both versions have been delayed to 2014.

sammoth

@ahpuck Great thing is that it's OPTIONAL. You don't have to buy it.

@DrKill09 Well the DLC is plagued PC games too by now. Long gone are the real expansion pack days.

@rasterror picking up the LE Forza 5 myself, I agree $50 is steep. I love Forza; best racing sim out there in my opinion. But as a multiconsole player, I could go and pick up GT6 for the PS3 for just ten bucks more (plus tax), despite the fact that they still will not have all cockpit views from what I have read (not sure on this) but I could have the best racing sims that each console has to offer. These season pass situations are kinda getting crazy over time. I would rather just pay a little more up front for a game and have all the extras available.

@lonesamurai1because old gaming sites that you had to play on where free, dont make me laugh. sure, you could play for free on sites like ten.net, mplayer.com, msn gaming zone, gamespy.  however, unless you payed, there were adds, queues, members had priority to join in before you.  it was kind of like battlefield premium XD

I do have to say though, people like you make me laugh, I was around back then, I played on ten.net. I payed 10$ a month so I could play shooters.  yes, $10 a month back in 1995.  I was 13 at the time, but I mowed lawns to make sure I could afford my gaming habit.  it wasn't until won.net and few other server browsing websites popped up we had "true" free gaming.  however they all died off, and then won.net got purchased.  we got lucky valve stepped up and made steam. even then though, how many mods for half-life became 20$ games? blueshift, counterstike, day of defeat, opposing forces?

all of you are spoiled fools who live with an instant gratification mindset.

arqe

@lonesamurai1 Real problem with Console vs PC is console gaming holding back industry in every way. Because its more accessible to gamers ( plug and play kinda ). And developers goes with consoles because they dont have to calculate and optimize game for 150 hardware pieces at a time. They just making fixed games for fixed hardware and then just leave the game be if its not broken like hell.

Trzebs

@lonesamurai1 +1. I've only ever played 2 pc games in my life(not including C&C or simcity back in the day) but I'm starting to feel that PC gaming might soon be my preferred choice. As you said, the freedom is the most appealing thing imo, and I hope that pc gaming keeps advancing. I just wish FM5 was on pc then my life (and my now defunct Fanatec wheel) would be just a little bit more complete.

I admire your passion, but I suspect you might not know what socialism is if you thought my comment was socialist in any way. Otherwise you're quite right. The world owes me nothing and I am free not to buy Forza 5, which I will happily do for the rest of my life.

revlux88

@snaketus @RenegadeGR At least Killer Instinct is f2p. If you only want to play as Jago that is. To get all 8 initial fighters, accessories, costumes, and a digital copy of the first K.I. game you need only spend $40. It is a bit disappointing to hear this about Forza 5. The game looks awesome but I'm not sure that it looks $110 worth of awesome just to get all the cars.

BamaGoatt

@Lhomity @BamaGoatt I was talking about the ps3 version coming out soon but yeah drive club looks good but not sure I am going to like it since it is social and I don't play well with others lol.

@sammoth @ahpuck Wrong. The cars are the reason you buy the game to begin with, and a bunch of them don't come with it? That's ridiculous. If you want a COMPLETE experience, then no, it isn't really optional. These cars are just as much a part of this game as the ones that come with the retail version.

You DLC apologists are getting ridiculous.

blackace
blackace

@sammoth @ahpuck Which is good, as $50 is a bit much for car pack. It should have been like $25 or $30. I could deal with that.

ahpuck

@sammoth @ahpuck  excuses, excuses. Put the whole damn game in the disk already. Stop suckering people into paying more for what can easily fit in a blue ray disk.

Delow

@snaketus@DrKill09yea, like back when original rainbow six released 2 expansions for $20 USD each only offering 3 maps a piece.  Or rainbow six: rogue spear offering 3 expansions at 20$ each.  Or battlefield 2 in 2005-2007 offering 1 expansion at $20 dollars and 2 boosters and $15(i think).  or when you could buy the interstate 76 expansion in 1997 called nitro pack for $20, or buy the all new interstate 76 gold edition with 3dfx support. just about every "major" pc game since 1995 has had add-ons, boosters or expansions.  look at duke 3d that had what, 5 expansions for 20$ each.

You can all lie to yourself about "dlc" all you want, but it's been around for almost as long as there have been online pc games.  the only difference was bandwidth was scarce back then, and you had to buy hard copies from EB or funcoland.  even patches usually came on discs that came with pc gamer mags.

snaketus
snaketus

@Trzebs @lonesamurai1 Indeed, PC gaming would be number one choice if only those few games was on it. To me those are NHL hockey games and Gran Turismo and some Tekken and games like that.

snaketus
snaketus

@sammoth @blackace @ahpuck Optional or not, the point is the business practice here, not the content on being disc or not. It's basically 110 dollar game. Nice. Good day for the publisher.

sammoth
sammoth

@blackace @sammoth @ahpuck Forza has been doing car packs for a while now. Just get the ones you want or the LE edition. 1st car pack free. It's all about preference. The problem I have is the complains about something that is optional. Yeah it's pricey for some but, it's not needed for everyone. it's more for the enthusiasts of a car game.

revlux88
revlux88

@PSYCHOV3N0M @ahpuck @sammoth It's a blu ray disc with a superfluous "E." I can see how it would be impossible to decipher what he meant since it had an extra letter and all.

sammoth
sammoth

@ahpuck @sammoth LMAO It's still optional. You're NOT entitled to it. Stop thinking that they HAVE to give it to you. They don't. Your only right is to buy it or not.
