3DS Slide Pad due in NA by Feb. 7 - Report

Capcom says analog stick add-on for Nintendo's latest handheld will be available for use with Resident Evil: Revelations at launch.

Nintendo confirmed the existence of the Nintendo Expansion Slide Pad in September, saying the 3DS peripheral that adds a second analog pad will arrive in Japan on December 10. However, the publisher has been mum on when gamers in the rest of the world will be able to plug their 3D-enabled handhelds into the new peripheral.

Want to slaughter zombies with two thumb pads instead of one in RE: Revelations?

And while Nintendo still hasn't been forthcoming with that information, according to Capcom, the Slide Pad will be available in North America by early February. Nintendo World Report said this week that it had received confirmation from Capcom at last week's New York Comic-Con that the 3DS Slide Pad would be available for use in Resident Evil: Revelations, which is due on February 7.

Capcom offered no other details on the matter and had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment as of press time. Nintendo told GameSpot only that the Slide Pad had not yet been dated for North America.

Following up on this year's action-focused Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, Revelations will try to return the series to its survival horror roots. The game will follow Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine in an episodic story-driven adventure set between the events of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5. The agents are once again on a mission to discover the truth behind a zombie outbreak, with this one stemming from the T-Abyss virus.

My launch 3DS is now looking like a cripple with all of these add-ons :P

it's so bulky and ugly though... ugh...

Makes me nostalgic for earlier eras of gaming. Not something I expected to see Nintendo push out, especially not so quickly, as if they'd planned it before release.

@GameMaster1995 That doesn't make it original. Other than being a little more precise the entire thing is a total knockoff. And you misread my comment, I said that Kinect doesn't rip-off Wii, but it does rip-off the PlayStation Eyetoy.

GameMaster1995
GameMaster1995

@pizzamuncher Oh yeah you did actually call the Kinect a rip-off. And I quote: "Why people don't complain about the kinect and move this much (both rip-offs) is beyond me..."

GameMaster1995
GameMaster1995

@pizzamuncher It might be the same idea of the Wii, but it is a more enhanced version of it. This is why I like Sony, because they seem to sit back and watch everyone elses innovations and then perfects it, or even make a whole new and better thing based off of the innovation.

pizzamuncher

@GameMaster1995 I never said that Kinect ripped off Wii, it actually took from the PlayStation Eyetoy. Move may be more precise but other than its huge glowing ball its a carbon copy of a wiimote.

It's amazing how if M$ or Sony do something to try and suck money out of you,or they screw up with their system (RROD,the trashed Boomerang controller idea, etc.) people gripe and moan, but go along with it anyway. If Nintendo makes one little ugly peripheral, all of a sudden we start hearing talk of them going out of business! Short version of the story:If you don't like it,don't buy it. If you do,get it. Either way you go,Nintendo will be fine. They survived the gaming crash of the 80s,and in fact are the reason we still have gaming after that. I'm sure a dopey peripheral will be just a smudge on the windshield.

That add-on makes the 3DS look like a Game Gear. Thats just too bulky. I think i'll pass unless RE Revelations requires it 2 b played (which im pretty sure i read an earlier article which said that it wuznt gonna b). Nintendo I love my 3DS but u guys should've had this on the 3DS from the start.

GameMaster1995

@pizzamuncher THey aren't rip-offs, they are just more what the Wii should've been with its preciseness and everything else. PlayStation Move, sans the calibration issues, is what the Wii prays to be in sensitivity and preciseness, while the Kinect is what the Wii prays to be in fun. Please at least play both of these (Kinect and PlayStation Move) before just judging off of what you've read and heard on GameSpot (or other mediums). Makes you sound more educated. Thanks! :)

I love how no one can do anything but complain, seriously guys shut up. It's a freaking add-on. Why people don't complain about the kinect and move this much (both rip-offs) is beyond me. Nintendo isn't the only company that makes mistakes, get over it.

@Jettero-Heller I know what you mean. Nintendo has made a lot of systems that weren't completely ready at launch, especially the handhelds. There's what, 6 models of the Gameboy family and now 5 models of the DS family? That's 11 models since 1989, so in 22 years, Nintendo has basically launched a new handheld every 2 years up til 2011. To me, a good product should last you at least 5-6 years before a new one should be considered. The Gameboy could have started out as being the Gameboy Color, then it could have went to the GBA SP/Micro years later, and then the 3DS could have come out soon after, skipping all 4 DS models. That way, the 3DS could have been decent competition with the PSP, and the Nintendo would have a new 3DS model right about now that can effectively compete with the Vita.

The second analog stick should have been in the console at launch. I'm disappointed.

Triton

This is sad. Hope they get the next system right. Big "N" has never been in this spot before. I may grab the new and improved 3ds when it launches, I am overdue for a upgrade, plus by then they may have some NEW games and not just remakes.

Jettero-Heller

OMGAWD!!! How long are the Nintendo apologists going to tolerate being force fed poop sandwiches?? Since the original Gameboy this company has done almost NOTHING right. How many YEARS did you have to wait to get a backlit screen?? A technology available WAAAYY before the GBA SP? & still people continued to buy the mostly invisible GB color & Advance models, almost completely useless unless you had just the right angle. Finally they got their act together with the SP. But WAIT!! No headphone option. REALLY?? You had to buy a plug in adapter for that. WOW!! Here they come again with an add-on which should really have been in the original rushed design. At least one analog nub would have been better than nothing. Let's not even mention their lugubrious treatment of 3rd party devs. Hey it's your money folks. By all means please feel fee to give it to whomever you like I won't laffatchoo. Sorry for the rant but I just can't stay silent on this any longer. I've really had it with this company's practices. That's all. And some claim that the other 2 are arrogant?? Fair 'nuff.

If I weren't going to be using this I would say it looks like one of the most uncomfortable things I have ever seen.....but that is also what a ton of critics said about the wii-u before playing it and loving it.I reserve all my judgement until it is in my hands..as long as it is comfortable I don't mind it being ugly,we are afterall using the 3ds as a gaming system...not a fashion accessory.

Megavideogamer
Megavideogamer

Sorry Nintendo but this add-on is very ugly. It "de-sleeks" and "un-pretties" the 3DS. I would have been better if Nintendo just included a second analog circle pad when the 3DS launched. A second misstep by Nintendo so early in the 3DS lifespan. Nintendo should know handheld gaming machines by now?

AxMxH
AxMxH

I am with Nintendo idea about extra pad 100% . you can ask me why. I answer you with this 1- Playing soft games most likely outside home which you want small size portable. 2- Playing hardcore games most likely inside home which you do not care how big your portable is as long you going to have better gaming. ! Peace !

@Icehearted : LOL,even though I don't necessarily agree with the saying I just HAVE to give you a thumbs up for ''The FrankenStein of Handhelds''! :P I think one of the main reasons Nintendo released the 3ds so early was to get a headstart on the vita, they figure (and this might be true) that if they start selling in summer they will make a considerable head gain in sales and will cash in on the holiday season, and by the time the vita comes out it will have to work hard to match the ''must have'' Nintendo titles.Probably one of the main problems was that they focused on too many things half-way instead of on one thing ALL the way...I haven't really used Nintendo Sound once..they could've taken that out and focused more on the battery, they also could've taken out the activity log or download play (until it has better use) to make a worthwhile online-friends system. There is enough man-power in Nintendo to have made the 3ds even better in the same amount of time...but they were more focused in a larger package that isn't quite as full as a smaller one.But so far (besides battery which is kind of hard to significantly fix) I can't think of many things Nintendo hasn't done/is doing to fix the problems. That is what matters most to me,not the mistakes they did make (and they did without a doubt) but what they are doing to fix those mistakes and that is what most people can't/don't want to see.

Sigil-otaku
Sigil-otaku

In the end I bought a 3DS, this thing will probably come packaged with a game and I'll get it cheap when that bundle drops in price. Same as I did with Wii motion + and red steel for just ten pounds. It's really not that hard to wait and it's not good Nintendo didn't include it in the first place but I'm hardly dying to get my hands on it.

Icehearted
Icehearted

@moviequest14 We're cool, I get that you want things to work out, I want the same. I'm not rooting for them to fail, I just think they didn't invest nearly enough into the system prior to release, and now they're trying to cobble together what I'd almost call the Frankenstein of handhelds. This isn't the Virtual Boy (which I have), but it's hardly the winner it's predecessors were.

It seems like ever since the N64, Nintendo has been slowly passing further and further into obsolescence. Always playing it safe, and always a step behind their competitors as far as games and the technology used to play them. Now, their own business practices are coming back to bite them in the end. As a long time supporter of Nintendo, it's sad to see a once great company fall. Not that they're in any danger of dying, mind you, it's just that they're not as great as they once were, in my opinion.

@dawnofhero i agree with you but sadly we will probably start to see fan service more and more in video games from now on. Until now fan service wasn't really a big thing in america but this have been a big things in Japan for a few years now and it's slowly coming in america i think in a few years it will be hard to find games without some fanservice...

I don't like this add-on and if i could i wouldn't buy this but sooner or later i will buy one most likely once they release monster hunter on the 3DS. Nintendo said this add-on won't be necessary on any games but it's more then likely sooner of later third party publisher will make games that you won't be able to fully enjoy without the added thumbstick and shoulder buttons. I bought the 3DS at 250$ and i'm almost 100% sure they will release a new 3DS later with the add-on but i wont spend another 200$ just to get 1 more thumbstick and 2 shoulder buttons i rather spend 20$ even though my 3DS will look ugly.

@dawnofhero : (though this type of thing doesn't interest me) Gamers will be taunted with seeing a blonde in skin-tight latex and bare skin in 3d...cap-mom didn't raise no fools ;) :P

Okay, why is the main character in the video a frickin' whore? Seriously, she's got her hair in her face, her jugs are bulging out, her suit is way too small, and she's wearing heels. Frickin' heels! Sorry Capcom, but I don't care to play your b#%ch character.

@PumkinBoogie : Though I could understand Nintendo rushing to get it out before the Holidays, this Christmas will give the 3ds a hefty lead over Vita once it is released in the beginning of the year.

Wormkid_64

Well, ugly and unneeded as I think this peripheral is,it's an option, and it's always good to have options. Metroid Prime Hunters worked on the DS with nothing but a d-pad and touch screen. 3DS at least has one C-Pad. But enough games come out for the peripheral,if it works good, and if I feel the need,I'll get it. I don't care how ugly it looks.Function over form I say.

moviequest14

@Icehearted : No,my mistake if I did seem angry at you,I was still rather irritated by an idiotic post I read earlier, also sorry if I was incorrect about the vita (though you and I both know that that usually is the case). But it is still fact that Nintendo has tried very hard to bring up solid 3rd party support and it isn't their fault in the least that so many 3rd parties decide to wimp out.And if I guess correctly you are referring to the likes of Ocarina 3d and Starfox 64 3d....this is picking a choosing just for negativity sake...yes we have 2 (improved might I add) ports..but for those 2 ports we have hmmm.....7 original titles or sequels..Mario3dLand (a new installment),Animal Crossing (with many differences from the original titles),Luigi's Mansion 2 (sequel),Kid Icarus (so unique a sequel it is almost a brand new ip),Mario Tennis,Pokemon Rumble Blast, and then a lot of 3rd party support with 2 monster hunter titles (unheard of this soon in the beginning of a system life),Final Fantasy,Kingdom Hearts: Drop Distance,Resident Evil,Roller Coaster Tycoon 3d,Rayman Origins,Tales of the Abyss,Fire Emblem,Sonic Generations, and countless more (there are actually roughly 90 upcoming titles). That is a pretty solid lineup in almost anyone's book (imo already a more solid lineup than the ds had). And the 3ds has already become much more successful than it originally was with an over 260% sales increase and leading the charts in Japan.

Not planning on buying this. This will only make the 3DS uncomfortable to hold. Nintendo needs to be careful. For their sake i hope this doesnt turn into another accessory that only two games even take advantage of, like the Motion Plus.

i hate when Nintendo does this. they release a console, but not think it through and after a year they bring out the add-on but make it look terrible.
