360 Call of Duty 2 updated

Auto fix-it from Infinity Ward addresses issues with corrupted saved-game files; multiplayer lag issues being worked on.

by

There's nothing like risking life and limb on foreign soil by crawling through the mud in minefields, dodging enemy fire from MP40s and Panzerschrecks, and watching comrades get riddled with bullets--only to have to go through it again because of a corrupted game-save file. That was the case for some Xbox 360 Call of Duty 2 players, who found that when they returned to the virtual battlefield, their hard-won progress had been deleted.

Today, developer Infinity Ward announced that it has released an update for the game that will let the war go on. On a post in the Xbox.com forums, a user by the name of "IWsupport" writes that the update "addresses a save game corruption issue that affected player progression for some people within the single player saved campaigns."

One other complaint of the critically well-received game deals with the multiplayer portion of the game. Game lag, or network latency, has caused several Xbox Live users to cry foul, saying the multiplayer portion is unplayable. IWsupport's post reveals that the team is currently looking into those issues and will hopefully be able to resolve them.

"We are pleased to announce that we are testing a number of multiplayer enhancements to the community, including addressing the lag issues. We are working really hard on these updates. Development is a timely process and we appreciate your patience."

Incredibly dumb IMO. People who had this problem have long ago quit playing, and by the time they crank out a new MP patch this game will be old news.

I love the multiplayer for this game... when it works... But the lag and constant connection problems makes me put in PDZ.

Why does the PC multiplayer get all the fun? Im tired of hearing guys at work talk about the awesome 56 player match they had, when I can't even play more than 8 player matches, and then only for a few minutes because of hellish lag. WTF? They say they are looking at the lag issues? Would it have been that hard to detect when it was being tested? I love the game and all, but this is ridiculus.

About time, microsoft are going the same way with 360 as XP, unfinished bull and people keep buying it. Wait till playstation 3, loved xbox 1 so much more than ps2 but microsoft have really screwed up. good luck microsoft, you can start by replying to emails, and giving good customer support, not use underhand uncompetitive tactics, and release complete software, if i wanted updates a month later from release i would use a pc as a gaming machine. Eight player war games, are they ****ing joking!!!

How about addressing multiplayer lobbies for friends only as well as the lag issues? I'm tired of suffering through the poorly executed multiplayer!

What ever happened to beta testing? How hard can it be to B-test on a console, its not like they have to consider 1001 PC manufactures and DIYs. My tiny HD is filling up with patches.

dont mean to be heartless for all the poor n00bs that have had save issues... but the whole amazeness of that game is the online multiplayer, surely anyone in there right mind would have fixed these n00b lag issues first...

Great!!! Now console games are start going to be produced half-a$$ed like Windows. MS is fantastic! Make a bug infested game and then trickle out updates months and months later to fix your corrupted product. Yet another reason to NOT buy an MS product. Hey MS! How about actually finishing the product before you sell it! What a joke! I have a feeling that many games will now be rushed out the door with all kinds of bugs and glitches, just because they know that they can send patches later. This is just great for all of those people buying product on day one. GIVE ME A BREAK!!!! Hopefully Sony and Nintendo will be smart enough and not follow in MS footsteps.

The PC version is a great game. The console version is great by console standards. I haven't seen the lag issue that most of you are complaining about. My games seem to be lag free when I decide to play online. Now if some of you would grab your sacks and jump into the Search and Destroy games, I'd be having alot more fun. Everyone wants to play the soulless deathmatches. Leave that lame crap for UT morons. Play a game type that requires some strategy.

can't wait until they figure out how to stop the lag problems

Oh please people. Quit your whining... at least you are all able to play multiplayer. Some people, like me, live in places where there STILL is no broadband access. WHAAAhh!!!!

I've had nothing to do in this game ever since beating it on veteran, so this update doesn't help me :(

One thing that sucks about online connectivity...the feeling of developers that they can always release patches. I hate buying software that requires patches to fix probs that should never have happened.

w00t, little replay value until they finally fix the multiplayer >.

this patch makes me think...what about the people (those few out there) that don't have broadband, or even the internet, how are they suppose to get the update if they're saves are screwed up?

too late, it already pissed me off, I used the codes to unlock levels, played thru them all and dumped the game.

Well that's half of my problems fixed - thankyou Infinity! I got all the way to hill 40 and then it wiped my save game. My misses managed to complete the game no probs. So now she has like a 1000 more gamer points than me! I'll be changing that later! On the Multiplayer patch issue, I believe they are going to give a dramatic update for the multiplayer. There must be a reason why it is taking them so long. As it stands at the moment, joining games is completely random, and there doesnt seem to be a point in having the one and only choice they offer you - Player or Ranked. There is no noticable ranking system, no stats collated, no way to hoast a game, no way to check the pings of servers before joining, no way to play with your XBL friends. It's a joke. Actually that's not true, ever now and then you'll get a good server, good map, and have a GREAT game. But most of the time it's like a lottery. But you would NOT believe just how long me and my wife stare at that black 'Cannot connect' screen in vain! It would be nice if they could double the server limit too, 16 players is much more like it for the large maps they include. Would be nice if they made some intense small levels for more intimate games as well.. we shall see! Actually i have recently noticed that SOME people i've been fighting against were hosting the games themselves. I can only presume they're on some form of testing team? - I can't see any host game options..

Youd figure the first patch theyd release wouldve been for the biggest problem people are having with it. Id like to see them patch up the fact that you get shot through walls.

And so it begins. Oh well it works pretty well, let's ship it and patch it later. But wait, what if I don't have a hard drive? Where do my patches go? (Seriously though, I don't know. What if you don't have a hard drive?)

The fact that there fixing the lag issues is great but only if they increased the player size from 8 to 16 then i would be completely happy.

Patching is now possible and patches aren't always negative they are positive as well. Like map updates hell sakaguchi could provide extra story to blue dragon or lost odyssey if he so fit.

Oh, so 2 months after launch they have yet to fix the Live issues, at least they admitted it . Sorry, too little too late. Look for my trade-in this weekend at EB. I'll wait for Ghost Recon and Battlefield 2.

About patching console games, just be glad they can be patched now. I don't agree with shipping out half-finished bug-ridden games either, but the fact of the matter is that companies are going to do it anyway. At least this way when the backlash from a particular problem gets big enough they have a means of giving the customer what they paid for in the first place.
