2K lets out Call of Cthulhu

Gamers looking to get their scare on before Halloween can cozy up with a game based on the twisted works of famous horror scribe H.P. Lovecraft. 2K Games today announced that the Xbox version of Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth has shipped to stores. A PC version is expected to haunt consoles next March.

Developer Headfirst Productions is hoping to immerse gamers into Dark Corners of the Earth by completely eliminating the heads-up display (HUD) and incorporating "realistic combat" and "an advanced AI (artificial intelligence) system." The game is set in the 1920s and will require gamers to fight, explore, and solve puzzles to uncover some strange occurrences in Boston.

Headfirst has a soft spot for the American author. Dark Corners of the Earth is just one of several games on the way based in the Cthulhu universe. Two more Call of Cthulhu games, subtitled Destiny's End and Beyond the Mountains of Madness, are expected next year, and one more, Tainted Legacy, was canceled.
