2014's Call of Duty described as the "best ever created"

Sledgehammer Games revealed as developer of this year's installment; Activision moving to a three-year, three-studio development cycle for Call of Duty titles.

by

Activision Blizzard today announced some interesting news for its Call of Duty franchise. First, the publisher revealed that Sledgehammer Games will lead development on this year's game, which CEO Bobby Kotick described as "perhaps the best Call of Duty game ever created."

No further details on 2014's Call of Duty have been announced, but the game is rumored to be a new installment in the popular Modern Warfare series. Sledgehammer previously collaborated on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Also of note, Activision revealed today that it is moving to a three-year, three-studio development cycle for Call of Duty titles. Previously, the franchise was developed on a two-year interval. Infinity Ward launched games during odd-numbered years, while Treyarch released titles during even-numbered years.

Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said this move will allow developers to have extra time to not only create new features to help push the brand forward, but also so they can spend more time polishing each game. Installments in the Call of Duty franchise will still be released on a yearly basis.

I'm excited, to be honest. I never wanted Ghosts all that much, Black Ops 2 was great, and Black Ops is my favorite as of right now, with COD2: Big Red One right in 2nd place.  I'm excited to see what Sledgehammer will produce, and who knows, they could be as good, or even better than Treyarch.  And maybe this years COD could dethrone Black Ops. I doubt it, though. ;)  I might just preorder this, if I can get my hands on a PS4 soon.

Give this game the carnage of CODW@W(bullet wounds and gibbing in single player and online),  the open mission design of Goldeneye Reloaded, and NO 'X' or any visible hit-markers in the story mode*coughBLACKOPS2*COUGH(I can see when my target is down, thank you),and it will be one of the best FPS ever made.

This just in... CoD 2014 will not run natively at 2160p on the Xbox One

there were some cool moments in COD ghosts, like the wintery sniper mission, and the scuba diving mission....but that's all it's good for, those precious moments, which are then separated by padding and crappy level design as the game tries to shove you from one cutscene to the next quicktime event. but as we all know, everyone's gonna buy it, as they'll have some crazy trailer that will be filled with all the best parts of the cutscenes/quicktime events.

I don't see any reason to upgrade from Call of Duty 4.

2014's version will be 2013's version with extra maps and weapons from 2012's release.  Lame

Rhetoric. you really think that i am going to quit battlefield 4 multi and play the same game for the fourth time(maybe fifth)?

The fact that this franchises is one of the most hated franchises in the industry, yet is the best selling franchise of the last generation and this current generation speaks volumes.

Are the games on the Xbox One and PS4 that bad that utter tripe like Ghosts is the best selling game on both systems?

Fools.

The new COD is just a shame technically speaking, it looks awful on next-gen systems and has horrendous framerate drops.

I can't believe people are still buying this piece of crap.

I am from the future, I have come to warn you that they are lying. They said the same thing about CoD:Poopfall in 2019.

I bought Ghosts for my PS4; big mistake. There I was, thinking this game would actually be good (based on the reviews and how this one was 'different' from other CoD games). Instead, I literally forced myself to trudge through the campaign (even dumbed down the difficulty to easy halfway through). And multiplayer? BF4 is so much better. Doubt I will be buying a CoD game again. Will be trading in Ghosts to part-fund Thief or MGS.....

CoD is one of most lamest Casual Franhcise ever - no matter how good or bad this game turns out compared to the rest, i still will be a lame game like the others.

We all know how big of a gamer he is, and not trying to ... you know... sell his games to people.

Yo, Sledghammer, I'm really happy for you, I'ma let you finish, but Modern Warfare 2 was the best Call of Duty of all time! One of the best video games of all time!

still not buying it... they lost me at Modern Warfare 1, shooters in general have lost their appeal for me

Eh...the best one was Modern Warfare 1 and even that wasn't that good...The only mission that really got me pumped was the sniper mission with the gillie suits.  I would like to see a modern military shooter with some real STORY to it.

They should change the name of the game to "Call of Yearly". Better yet, "Uncalled Duty".

Call of Duty is here to stay whether we like it or not. I honestly don't care if they release a new game every year as long as its good. I loved Modern Warfare and World at War but after that i think their games have sucked. Maybe now that they are on a 3 year cycle things might change and we wont get the same copy paste bull shit every year.

See you in three years, if COD is still around by then.

"This will be the best Call of Duty ever".

Too bad gamers don't care anymore.  We're numb to the series.

@19James89 Actually the franchise is the most hated because it is the best selling. People just cant stand annual releases being the best selling games. Im not defending CoD in any way though. But I also dont hate it like the rest. I simply dont play it and I ignore it.

@SipahSalar  I am going to laugh SO HARD if 2019's COD is really named that.

@DarkSaber2k @alireza125  There is absolutely no new releases on the market that are worth playing right now other than BF4. Let me know if you find anything decent.

@SiNoNaX @DarkSaber2k @alireza125  I use to be like you, I hated Call of Duty and I LOVED the Battlefield series, I loved Dice and how they treated their fan base in the early 2000s. But now I hate both series. Why?

Both fans of both series are fighting over splitting hairs. Both corporations are treating you like complete idiots.

Once Battlefield 3 came out, a year later Battlefield 4 comes out, once Battlefield 4 was release they announce Battlefield 5. On top of that you can purchase unlockable DLC where you pay a bit to unlock every weapon and vehicle perk just by dishing out coins.

What does Call of Duty do?

Call of Duty releases a new game, once its released they announce another one right off the bat..rinse and repeat.

You're both idiots for allowing yourself to purchase games that don't innovate, and they don't innovate because why do they need to innovate when people are willing to purchase a game just because the tittle of the product has a new shiny sequel number next to it.

shinjuki

@twentymooseman @shinjuki

I'm not saying CoD is the best game. I'm saying that Modern Warfare two is. The best map selection. The best weapons. The way that the perks are set up. The way you unlock weapons it's all perfect. Not to mention offline, the most thrilling story I've yet to experience in any shooter period. I'll never forget that last battle, and how it made it feel like it was my life on the line, fighting for that knife, I needed that knife, freaking thrilling!

So, it's the epitome of a game, not just an online shooter. And I can't freaking wait for the exact same team that created that magic and their next genius Titanfall, just saying, I'm full mast for this game.

Just mention dual 1887s and 90% of the gaming population knows what you're talking about.

Thanks, yeah, it's a hella sick show. Just got into Nujabe, too, recently, makes most of the music on it, he's ultra flow with such pretty music.

twentymooseman
twentymooseman

@shinjuki @twentymooseman  I will give it this much, the mechanics of Call of Duty are smooth, well oiled and tight. It's a perfected formula, but the formula has become dull. It's a good thrill for the 6 hours it typically lasts, but not much after that. I mean, I feel perfectly satisfied with 4's multiplayer and don't feel a need to spend money to go beyond that anymore. The rest I've rented. I'd say games like the Far Cry or Metro franchises, which are a bit less refined but go a bit further outside the box, are more interesting experiences. Far be it from me to declare the best game ever and I'd agree that COD has achieved some incredible things as a franchise, particularly in terms of sales and marketing. It even pushed the FPS genre forward in some ways, but it's stagnating. What's your take on COD? Why do you think it's the best FPS/game? Also, nice Samurai Champloo icon, that's a cool show.
