As rumored, special edition Super Smash Bros. 3DS XL systems are coming to North America. Nintendo of America confirmed the news this week during the GameStop EXPO. Previously, the limited edition systems were confirmed only for a European release, though a recent Toys 'R Us leaked ad scan tipped their North American launch.

The Super Smash Bros. 3DS XL systems will come in red and blue colors, and are set to launch on September 19, ahead of the game's release on October 3. The $200 systems, which feature a dozen of the game's fighters on the cover, do not include a copy of the game.

Also during the GameStop EXPO, Nintendo announced two other limited edition 3DS XL systems: a NES-inspired system and a Persona Q system. Both will sell for $200, and are exclusive to GameStop. The Super Smash Bros. 3DS XL, however, will be available at retailers nationwide.

The 3DS family of systems (including 3DS, 3DS XL, and 2DS) has sold more than more 12 million units in the United States alone. In all, the 3DS line has shifted in excess of 44 million systems worldwide to date.
