Ubisoft will support gaming accessories company Razer's open source virtual reality (OSVR) headset, Razer has announced.

“The Open Source Virtual Reality framework has the potential to push the boundaries of virtual reality gaming," new business development director at Ubisoft Gael Seydoux said in a statement. "Our teams at Ubisoft are known for pioneering game development using the latest technologies, so we’re looking forward to demonstrating what we can do by working with Razer and Sensics, building on the OSVR platform.”

Virtual reality goggles manufacturer Sensics is the founding contributor to OSVR.

Other companies that announced they'll support OSVR include VR and AR makers like castAR and Godhead VR, as well as game developers like Mindfield Games, Hydra Interactive Entertainment, and Seven Hill Games.

Razer also announced that the OSVR Hacker Development Kit (HDK) v1.1 is now availble from its website. It comes with an all-new full-HD OLED display for higher contrast and lower latency due to faster pixel-switching compared to the previous IPS panel, as well as improved mechanics and increased comfort.

Razer revealed OSVR in January, touting its $200 price point. The headset comes with head-tracking capabilities and two 5.5-inch displays that provide a 100-degree field-of-view. Razer plans to ship OSVR by June 2015.
