1C launching console offensive

Traditionally PC-centric Perimeter publisher bringing Captain Blood to 360, IL-2 to PS3, 360, PSP, DS.

As the self-proclaimed No.1 Eastern European game publisher, 1C has made its reputation on the backs of PC games like IL-2 Sturmovik, Perimeter, and Space Rangers 2: Rise of the Dominators. Now the company is making a concentrated push into the console market.

This week, 1C confirmed that it would be publishing games for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, and DS. The company will be bringing IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey, the latest in its long line of PC World War II flight sims, to all four of those systems, and the long-in-development action-adventure Captain Blood will set sail for the Xbox 360.

1C has previously dabbled in the console world with Swashbucklers: Blue vs. Grey on the PlayStation 2 (published in cooperation with Atari). It also planned to release the sci-fi action-adventure Rage Rider (also known as Axle Rage) on the PC and PlayStation 2, but that project was canceled.

For more on Captain Blood, check out GameSpot's hands-on preview of the Xbox 360 edition.

The 'Captain Blood' game i remember was the space exploration game where you zipped around the Galaxy discovering new alien races, planets, etc. A pirate!! Eh!?

News were about publisher, but it should be mentioned that Birds of Prey for PS3 & X360 is developed by Gaijin Entertainment, same company that makes X-Blades.

IL-2 on consoles? Are they going to make flight joysticks w/ throttle for consoles, or dumb the game down? I can't imagine IL-2 being playable with a gamepad. Not that I have anything against IL-2 on console, just hoping they won't dumb the game down. PSP and DS versions will of course be completely different from the fully featured versions.

I hope they put a bit more effort into publicising their games on consoles, as their efforts on PC games have been poor. They do a lot of publishing for small companies making niche games, but spend very little on advertising them.

All we hear nowadays are the small quiet steps away from PC to console......... :(

I think this company is going to fail miserably and go bankrupt...what they are bringing to the table is just reworked versions of other games. Deathtrak--->twisted metal, and full auto cryostaesos--->bioshock the world war two ones----> come on even with all these games being brought in, they are just setting themselves up for a massive fail

!C wans in on some of the profits like Take-Two, who had a 163% profit with GTA4. Yeah, I would want some of that too, but can they produce.

Yay for one more company making bad games.

Anyone remember the 1988 Captain Blood game? Did ANYONE have a clue how to play that game!?

wow it would be gerat to see a TRUE fightsim like the il-2 games on consoles and not just arcady games like ace combat. i have been a very active memeber in the IL-2 comunity for some 5 years and its been great. draw back is the need to have pricey set ups to play on. i know guys who pay more for there flight sticks, rudder peddles and TIR than i spent on my ps3 and hdtv lol. i know a few that have spent nearly as much on there PC set ups including upgrades custom cockpit recreatons ect than what my 05 montecarlo cost me IN 05 lol. being able to play a true flight sim on a 400 dollor ps3 would be great.

They should start developing something other than games about pirates, after so many years.

iesexywarden - you are accusing someone of trolling - but that's what YOU are doing with that post. You are also mini-modding, trying to get someone in trouble by making a post complaining about a rule violation. You must be from IGN forums, where they don't tolerate even the thought of someone saying something another person doesn't like! This is Gamespot, not IGN - we are allowed a little bit more room to speak our minds here.,, and there aren't any cliques here, either. So what if pourya is getting tired of exclusives on the xbox - what's it to you - and why would you get so "incited" as to call him a troll (your getting angry, but you want blame it on him)? Chill out dude - this is an entertainment site. On the article - I never played any of those games - but I do care in the sense of it becoming a trend. The best thing for any game is for it to be sold multi-platform. It's good for US and it's good for the developer. This article is careful not to say whether the games will ALSO be published for the consoles or ONLY - it sounds like they will also be, and actually I don't see anything about exclusivity here - be careful with carefully constucted articles, and don't assume anything that isn't said - it usually isn't said for a reason (no decision made in the matter, subject doesn't want to put off market, trade secrets, market deception, etc.).

They might want to hire someone who can actually come up with appealing names for their games. If I saw "Captain Blood" or "Axle Rage/Rage Rider" on the shelf in a store, the first thing I'd think is "bargain game".

lol was IL2 an MMO? I play it free. WTF!? Anyway, consoles dont deserve IL2, all they will do is screw it up for the sake of making profits. Well, I hope they dont but look at EA. lol. I have a console, dont get me wrong. But some games are legends of the PC and are what are needed to preserve the integrity of the game. (Most of the time.) But in anycase, go for it 1C, as long as you dont screw it up.

IL2 wasn't bad, and it wasn't particulary good either. definatly wasn't worth £10 a month

"And thk123, what do you mean by, The beginning of the end of PC? PC will probably stay around forever, since it plays FPS and simulations the best." Yea I agree. Company's are allowed to make games for other platforms you know.

Love the proper flight sims like IL-2 Sturmovik and Battle of Britain etc.. some great memories playing them on the PC. If they can get a decent multi-player system going that will be awesome. Nice to see a new game i never heard of in Captain Blood. Looks interesting. Any reason why it won't be on PS3 or is it like the other recent companies saying "we don't release PS3 version because of financial costs"?

Excuse me, Mr. PR Guy, but IL-2 is one no-good game, to say the least.

KryptAngel

I've heard and seen IL-2 but I'm not really a flight sim kinda guy. I did love "Perimeter" tho one of the more unique RTS titles to hit a pretty stale genre. Pity I could never get all the way though it. I had a horrid tendency to drain my energy supply too quickly throwing up the force field to fend off the constant bug attacks. Great game tho I just sucked at it lol

Thank you for the information tractionpr and HavenlyHunter! Graphic quality needs a little boost, but game concept looks solid from what I have seen. I'll have to see if I can find some demos, but C1 has my support. GS loses some support for not being more informative, not having screen shots, and yeah... Nice 3 paragraphs when the last article about EA vs TTwo is 15 long... How about a boost of at least 2 more here, and a screen shot. Not saying I dont care about the EA vs TTwo, but when I company is starting into the US only a year ago, there needs to be a bit more explanation on who they are, what they have done, and showing off some of their work.

Not going to lie here, I'm the PR guy for 1C. In Europe we are huge but we really just launched in the US as a publisher last year. In Europe we have 800 stores, put out around 25 games a year from our 6 internal developers and ship one metric ton of software every hour of every day. As for IL I know I have to say good things, but it really was my favorite game we showed at the event. It has a slider to go from arcade flying to actual combat sim so it is accessible to the widest range of players and looks amazing. Someone commented on it being WWII, well that's because modern sims are really just "see a dot, get a lock, fire a missile" I prefer to get in there with guns and do some dog fighting. Don't get wroing, I love Ace 6 but I get tired of just pumnping out missiles.

that one dude has a +3 for saying he never heard of them. So people agree that it should be said. I sure never heard of them before. What is their website, what are their best and worst games, how long have they existed, how long is their longest game series, how many employees do they have, how many games have they made, how many genres have they spread across, where are their employees from, have they bought out any companies, are they owned by another company, who is their publisher... and many more questions. If someone can answer at least half of these questions, then I will admit they have enough of a fan base to at least both acknowledging, sites like GS get paid by companies to publish stories about them if it is something this small. This does now qualify industry news, it is more of a side note, if that. No offense, they just haven't done enough to make a print on the industry.

IL lit up my pc 4 years back. great memories. i played it on a triple screen setup and it was beautiful. Me and my friends loved that game. I'm shocked and not shocked that its coming to consoles.
