1C Company today announced that it has acquired the publishing rights to Brigade E5: New Jagged Union from Apeiron. The game is described as a tactical strategy title that incorporates the advantages of both real-time and turn-based games using an innovative smart pause mode (SPM). The game is set in the fictional country of Palinero in the tropics, where players will be required to assemble a band of mercenaries in order to survive the imminent civil war.

"We believe that Brigade E5 will be an interesting experience for all fans of tactical games, such as X-Com and Jagged Alliance," said Vladimir Ufnarovsky, project leader at Apeiron. "We have been working on the project for about two years. During this time we have already released a couple of noncommercial demos that gained popularity among gamers in Russia. Brigade E5 introduces a new, fresh approach to the genre that has become very popular and has many admirers all over the world. Furthermore, Shaun Lyng, lead writer and codesigner of the famous Jagged Alliance series, is working full time on E5 bringing all his knowledge of tactical warfare."

The single-player campaign can be played from three different viewpoints, either fighting for one of the two warring factions or remaining independent. Multiplayer play for up to four players will also be supported on specially designed deathmatch maps.

Brigade E5: New Jagged Union will feature more than 100 accurately modeled firearms and dozens of different ammo, grenade, armor, and equipment types. Players will also have the option to upgrade and modify their equipment with sniper scopes, bayonets, mini grenade launchers, and the like.

Brigade E5: New Jagged Union is currently scheduled for release toward the end of this year. We'll bring you more information on the game as soon as it becomes available.
