$100,000 Borderlands 2 in-game event revealed

Loot Hunt event begins October 11 promising cash and physical prizes.

2K Games announced today the Borderlands 2 $100,000 Loot Hunt, an upcoming event that offers in-game and real-world prizes for players. The event kicks off on October 11 at 10 a.m. EDT and concludes on November 7 at 5 a.m. EDT.

Every day during the event, a special daily target will be displayed in-game. Players can take down the daily targets once a day for a total of 28 entries. On top of weekly sponsored prizes (listed below), one player will win $50,000 and four others will win varying amounts of cash totaling another $50,000.

More than a year after release, Borderlands 2 has "hundreds of thousands" of players, 2K said.

Those interested in participating in the $100,000 Borderlands 2 Loot Hunt event can log in to a special website using their SHiFT account information. Community goals will also be offered as part of the promotion, rewarding users with a "uniquely super-awesome gun" if players cumulatively kill enough enemies singled out in the daily community goals.

In addition to the cash prizes mentioned above, 2K will offer the following throughout the duration of the Borderlands 2 Loot Hunt.

  • PlayStation Vita handheld entertainment systems with copies of Borderlands 2 Vita once released
  • Customized Borderlands 2 XP SEVEN headsets from Turtle Beach
  • NVIDIA Shield PC Streaming set-up with a custom painted Tiki PC by Falcon Northwest
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti GFX cards.
  • Borderlands 2 Game of the Year Edition Strategy Guides by BradyGames
  • Lifetime supplies of all 2K titles on Steam – past, present, and future

Only United States players are eligible for the cash and sponsored prizes, though all players worldwide can participate in the community-based goals, 2K said.

Borderlands 2 originally released in September 2012. It has since shipped over 7 million copies and is on pace to become the highest-selling title in the history of 2K. A Game of the Year Edition will be released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on October 8.

I wonder how many of the "special daily targets" will be in DLC areas? I'm trying to find the sales angle, Push DLC?

Well this is interesting, I surely will have to participate, but I really dont need extra reasons to play borderlands 2 because its so awesome anyways.

Why is always "only US"??? There are millions of players and fans outside US you know?

Sucks that it's US only (perhaps it's to save on shipping :P).

On another note though: "Lifetime supplies of all 2K titles on Steam -- past, present, and future"

=O

Surely there's enough players still active in UK/Europe to offer these rewards to us too? Very disappointed in 2K and Gearbox.

i was so excited for this until I saw it was USA only :( So sad... seriously.

Maybe if you fix your game and get rid of the stupid tutorial that your forced to play EVERY TIME YOU RESTART THE GAME maybe I would play your game Gearbox... Probably not, but maybe.

Only 5% of the world population is eligible to participate.

Talk about self entitlement.

"Only United States players are eligible for the cash and sponsored prizes, though all players worldwide can participate in the community-based goals, 2K said."

Wtf? If that's so, then this event will not make any sense for the non-us players...

Btw. regrding to the whole story here: can't wait to see the people playing with their fully cheated game profiles hahahaha.

Rumor has it that the White House will be participating in it. They'll need the $50,000 to restart the Government. "For US Citizens " will increase their chances of winning.

Press release from Gearbox Software:

"50,000 winners will each receive a copy of Aliens Colonial Marines and Duke Nukem Forever valued at $2 (totaling $100,000 cash equivalent), because we can't sell'em we're giving them away, cause we don't want'em either."

Its a damn fine game.  Just wish they would sell a Game of the Year edition at a reasonable price for the PC and I would jump back in.

Lost me interest at US only.

@grbolivar Hmm this is an easy one

So you don't live in the states fine and you win $50,000; now our of country so the US will take 50% of that for taxes and now whatever coutnry you are in is going to want a piece of that too so now your probably down to a few hundred dollars

now let me ask you was it worth it to get your hopes up?

rushad_patel

@Sefrix It sounds so outrageous its only for US. They are distributing thousands of $$ but dont want to pay for shipping !!.

Seems there's just too much legal stuff to be handeled if it were distributed in other countries also/.

But wish they had it for all , in the end they did sell the game worldwide, then why not do the effort and distribute awards worldwide as well.

@LordChen2 Not even 1% of the world plays this game. So your argument is invalid.

BuyaPC

@LordChen2 Theres also probably more than 50% of the player base in the US too if not a lot more than 50% so dont act like its some small percentage getting special treatment with your 5% nonsense

@bbq_R0ADK1LL Then move to America. This place rules now. We don't even have a government anymore. So it's kinda like Thunderdome. You can not pay taxes. Kill people. Rip the tags off mattresses. And nobody can do SHIT about it.

@Stebsis Yeah, I was like hmm I might get into this, and then I got to the part about US only :(.

@Excalibus Ok - let's say that's the case (which very could well be, can't say I'm too clued up on the legal things), what's stopping them running a separate competition/promotion for Europe? Is it just that they'd have to run a separate competition for each country? I could understand why they couldn't be arsed doing that - It sounds like a hell of a lot of work.

Yet at the end of the year we are still require to file our taxes.  Ah The America Dreams: Land of Tax this Tax that and Tax even the Taxes.

Rumoclause

@KiraDEATHNOTE @Excalibus But nothing outside the US? Not even the UK? Maybe I'm wrong but I would have thought we'd have enough current players to make it viable?
