10,000 PS4s sold on eBay last weekend

More than two next-generation systems sold every minute November 15-17.

More than 10,000 PlayStation 4 consoles were sold on eBay last weekend, a representative for the online auction site told GameSpot today.

During the November 15-17 period, more than two systems were sold every minute. In all, more than 15,000 PS4 consoles have been sold on eBay since November 1 and there are around 13,000 PS4 listings as of November 18.

It also appears that gamers are taking to eBay to sell their old systems as a means to finance their next-generation console purchases. More than 14,000 used consoles from previous generations were sold on eBay since November 15, which is up 25 percent compared to the 10 days preceding the PS4 launch.

The PS4 officially sold more than 1 million units in 24 hours across North America. Looking ahead, the eBay representative said the company expects demand for the Xbox One through the auction site to be high. That console launches this Friday, November 22.

I have one new PS4 unopened forsale. Let me know....

I sold 2 PS3 on ebay at launch for $1100, the demand wasn't the same this time...

They actually weren't that expensive. $630 was the average. I sold two and kept the third. Launch time is the cheapest time to get a next-gen console; If you pre-order.

And at what price? Now that's capitalism.

I plan to import a PS4 from the US, but right now the prices are problably too high. I can wait until June, I will have some more money to spare and the games I'm interested will be released or pretty close to being released.

What was the average price that they were sold for? That's what I want to know.

Who the fuck buys these? They will be overflowing with stock in a couple of weeks.

It's just a lot of people trying to make a quick profit. I'm still undecided on whether I think it's really smart, or just really sad.

Gotta love American greed. So basically people are making a profit off of Sony, although Sony takes a loss for selling it for 399$. The average on eBay is 550$ those people ostracized so many kids who wanted one for Christmas just so they could make a fast buck. I'm positive these are all grown men and its just sad. In a few weeks stock will be replenished 2fold and the scalping will end. If you don't have one just wait a few more weeks. This is so stupid and just like Americans. So greedy....

I wonder how many of the 10,000 sold came with a blue light? Thats why you dont buy consoles from independent sellers. Especially if they were just released.

I wonder how much the PS4's were selling for on eBay?

If they were sold out in some peoples local stores I bet some people would have paid more than $400

I'm more interested in knowing what the average transaction cost of these PS4s was.

The fact that Sony has made this big of a splash in Xbox's prime consumer zone (North America), speaks volumes.

I was thinking to sell my PS4 but then I would make $100.00 and I just thought it would be worth it to just keep it then having to deal with craigslist or Ebay. SO after a few days I do not regret it. Just the free games alone have made it worth the purchase, and more games are coming every month.

"...eBay representative said the company expects demand for the Xbox One through the auction site to be high." some how I just do not think so.

Went to the electronics store today, they still had PS4's for sale. Sony met the supply demand, selling on Ebay is foolish since there's enough supply. Those scalpers should have learned their lesson from the PS3 launch, where PS3 didn't sell out everywhere and they were all stuck with a console they couldn't sell for 2+ times the price.

About 2% of the PS4 consoles were sold on Ebay.

Where the hell do you have to live at that you have to buy a PS4 from Ebay? Seriously I knew 3 people that were able to get a PS4 day 1 without having a pre-order and getting them later in the day, not at midnight. Are people that stupid as to pay hundreds more for something they could have gotten from the store the same day?

BlendThree
BlendThree

@elmeanno Exactly- you can be assured they were double, triple the MSRP. High demand, low supply and the forthcoming holiday season = hideous results.

Toplinkar

@Dannystaples14 I'm willing to bet that it's people  who live in a country where the PS4 price is ridiculous so they're importing it from the USA.

@P90SupportClass So making money is stupid? Why would you care about 'ostracizing' a handful of people if the idea is so stupid that they could just wait a few weeks? Its called supply and demand and its economics 101. Take your socialist bullshit out of here.

@Ravenlore_basic I thought the same when I picked up my PS4, but I'd rather have one of the first just to see how well it stands the test of time as a product.

Ravenlore_basic

@DragonessAthena I have heard of NO store that has restocked, nor any store that has supply. I am sure even store employees would buy and sell on Ebay for a quick $50- $100.00 profit. Add to that there are NO stories about PS4s on store shelves yet PLENTY of stories of stores selling out of PS 4s, and not finding any left, except on Ebay.  Thus, your claim seems a little shaky in the least.

PetJel

@Mr_Big_Boss No, ebay is worldwide and the ps4 sold 1 mil units in just North America.

@AyatollaofRnR Nah it's just people making 100-200 bucks off people who want them in time for Christmas.

If a brazilian can have a PS4 in brazil for 1000$ , why not buy it from ebay for 500 or 600$ for example. There are many countries around the globe like that.

Uhh I'd like to think Sony knows more about its own supply than eBay sellers to make only a 13$ profit from consoles at realease. Wow you are really worked up, didn't get a PS4 sold or something? it's not stupid, it's pathetic. Those pathetic strategies used by eBay sellers will fall through in a few weeks. You have no clue of what your taking about. Using ideas of supply and demand requires understanding of the entire supply. If Sony days they will be in good supply ( especially since Xbox will be realeased, and they want their product on the shelves competing for attention) then it will. Meaning that these eBay scalpers, and you, have no clue of the true value and overall supply concerning the PS4. Why would Sony allow eBay sellers to make a 300+ $ profit, being the corporate giant that it is? They know they will release a few million more, that's why. The CEO said it himself. Why not have the msrp at 800? Because they already have plans to saturate the market with PS4's in order to compete with XB1. Supply and demand is a limited factor concerning value when you have to compete with another console. The true value will be found in " which console has more". This is what will drive sales, in a few weeks when the competition begins, not the supply.

P90SupportClass
P90SupportClass

Maybe you didn't read the article. eBay sellers have marked them up 3x the original msrp

Toplinkar
Toplinkar

@Dannystaples14 Most likely they don't. That price is considering the assembly price alone, it does not factor in distribution costs for example. Sony is selling it at a loss, but a small one.

P90SupportClass

You must be god, this is the only way you could know all of that information about every store in America. Walmart pledged to have them throughout the season, and sure enough I went to it today and found one in my city. This isn't diamonds were talking about, it's a stupid video game console.

john_matrix8953

@P90SupportClass No reply to me, eh? I like the fact that you dropped your accusation that only Americans are greedy. That shows you realized your own stupidity and hypocrisy.

Gotta love the hypocrisy that you foreigners bring to the internet.

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@P90SupportClass No I didn't read the article but I did already know they would have marked them up. It is what happens every year.

Which is kind of sad since it means that there are still people who are stupid enough to pay 3x the sticker price for a console when they will be back in stock in no less than two weeks.

I meant Sony makes $18 on every console in terms of if you strip down a PS4 and add up all of the cost of each component and they are selling it for $399 they are making $18 on each console. That is as Toplinkar said above if you ignore things like shipping and boxing costs.
