This game was like a half empty gallon of milk...it was only good for a week.

User Rating: 6 | Army of Two PS3
NOTE: There are no plot spoilers in this review.
What you might want to know: This game does NOT have trophies, it supports online play (for one player only), and has a co-op split screen mode for the offline aspect of the game.

Introduction: Let's be fair, Army of Two is not a complete disaster, but it fails on many different levels. I often put a lot of emphasis on the plot of a game, and this game has a boring plot. It's not even that it needs improvement, it's just flat out lame. Also there are some huge A.I. flaws that I'll discuss in a minute. Let's begin.

Short Review:
Ups: Innovative use of aggro system (adopted from mmorpg's), good graphics, split screen co-op (offline only), large variety of weapons, masks, and upgrades, fast paced online play.
Downs: No trophies, no online split screen play, AI gets frustrating, computer has perfect aim (they can shoot you in the head from across the level), plot is flat out dumb.

Long Review:
Graphics: The graphics are good for army of two, but what many people forget is that it is much easier to give linear games (such as army of two) good graphics than it is for non-linear games (such as Elder Scrolls: Oblivion). But nonetheless they are impressive.

Storyline: I've taken a vow to not put spoilers in my reviews but even if I were to break that now you wouldn't be missing out on much. The story in AoT is not at all interesting. It's predictable and is based on events regarding the Iraq war. I just wasn't impressed with it. The voice acting however is fabulous, and some of the real-time conversations between the two heroes are pretty funny.

Gameplay: How should I say this...frustrating? The gameplay is not terrible, but it fails to incorporate one simple thing (which is necessary in a game like this), realism. I'm going to quote GameSpot on this one, "Some of the AI enemies can take more bullets than a terminator." On top of that they all have perfect aim, and can hit you from nearly any angle, at any distance. On the up side, the controls are fairly simple and easy to use.

Soundtrack: this was my favorite part of the game. The soundtrack seems to flow quite well with the action, and is never overpowering.

Lasting value/Buy or rent: I'm not one to bash games that at least attempt to engage the gamer, so I'd say rent this game at the most. Personally I wish I would have saved the money and rented something else, but that's your call. Also I rented this game with a friend and we played through it together. I don't even want to think about how frustrating it would be to go through this story with an AI partner. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh, but with how competitive the gaming market has become (especially with the release of games like metal gear solid 4, killzone 2, resistance 2, infamous, etc.), games like Army of Two just don't measure up.
